  1. In my mind, the decision between a complete teardown and a reinvestment in the current team can be found in the new ownership agreement. If the minority investors (unknown as of now) have bought in (similar to George Bush with the Rangers) just so they can boast at the Country Club about being owners of a major league team, then a complete teardown is probably the path to follow. But, if the agreement has some sort of wording that allows the minority investors a strong voice in how the Twins move forward, then a reinvestment might be the way to go. BUT, there is a caveat to this also. The minority investors must have a "win the world series" (not "win the Central Division") mindset. I'm a little worried that the minority investors might be Pohlad clones and will continue the "profit is #1" view of MLB ownership. So until the new investors and the terms of the agreement are known, I'm not going to worry about what happens next.
  2. If a competent first baseman is so easy to find, why did the Twins sign Ty France this past off-season and now have Clemens and Julien alternating there?
  3. And five might get paid as much as a #3 starter. The few names you dropped are more comparable to the $35M to $40M a year pitchers. Or put another way - playing at half salary.
  4. In my non-humble 😉 opinion, until high-profile relievers start getting paid like a starter, it will be difficult to convince people to change. Look at someone like Morris. He's looking down the road at a possible salary of $10M-$12M a year in a couple years if he remains a starter. Or he could switch to relief and look forward to $5M-$6M a year. Hard for them to look look forward to playing for half the salary when your value to the team hasn't significantly changed.
  5. Everyone seems so worried about Culpepper and Houston as hitters that they seem to forget that shortstop is primarily a defensive position. Guys like Mark Belanger played for a decade in Baltimore and had a career batting average of .228. But he was also a gold glove winner several times and helped the Orioles win a lot of games. He and Brooks Robinson on the left side of the infield was a thing of beauty.
  6. That video shows great agility at shortstop. He might be more fun to watch than Correa. Correa had a cannon arm but not the agility of Houston while he was a Twin.
  7. You've presented sound reasoning for extending both Ober and Keaschall and should be considered during the off season. With potential new ownership, it might be their opportunity to make a bold first move in Minnesota.
  8. Three comments. 1) Tait has an arm. That throw to second was a rocket. 2) I am astounded by the number of rallies that included multiple walks and errors. A team with a few hits but 10 or 12 walks is not uncommon. It's difficult to determine the abilities of players. 3) The Twins either have a lot of speed in the minors or minor league catchers are awful.
  9. Hold your horses there, pardner. The Pohlads aren't gone. Until the ink is dry on the documents finalizing the transfer of ownership, I would just play the hand that you've been dealt. Otherwise, good article.
  10. I think that the Stewart trade for Outman was based on a misconception made by the Pohlads. They thought they were trading for ownership of the Outlander TV series. 😁
  11. Another click bait article. There was nothing in the article except rehashing the trade deadline moves. But then the comments presented everyone with a lot of unfounded rumors. More click bait. How about writing an article about the sale of the Twins when there is actually something happening?
  12. I sure hope that Houston's feeble throw to first in the video isn't indicative of his arm strength. The play was much closer than necessary.
  13. I remember years ago laughing when the vendors would shout out "Can't tell the players without a program!" because I knew all the players and their numbers. Tonight (or this entire weekend), that may be a very accurate thing to say,
  14. I'm still trying to absorb all that happened today. I may have to pay homage to Rocco and create a spreadsheet to figure it all out. But in general, I see three types of trades: those that make sense, those that boggle the mind, and those that are in between. Make sense: Trading Duran, and Correa. I don't like the return but I understand the reasoning. Boggle my mind: Trading both Jax and Varland. Just one of them would have moved this to Makes Sense. I don't like the return here either. In Between: Trading Bader, Castro, France, Coulombe, and Stewart. They got what they could. But what I'm really anxious to see is what the 26-man roster looks like at game time tomorrow. I hope a bunch of guys in their early 20's are on the roster.
  15. I dispute this. Therefore, by definition, it is not indisputable.
  16. Ask for the moon and the stars. The Twins should demand at least the equivelant of Walter Jenkins and Luke Keachel (and they could throw in Vasquez for a Single-A lottery ticket. That would be a good starting position.
  17. There have been many jokes made on Twins Daily about Falvey being "the smartest guy in the room". I think he actually is. He has so much information about players on other teams coming to him from scouts, advisors, fellow GMs, Twins' players, etc. that is not available to armchair quarterbacks which makes him smarter than any of us. So do I think he should be making deadline moves? Hell, yes. It's his damn job. Anything less would be counterproductive to his professional future.
  18. To me, the verdict is - who gives a gaddum? (Sorry. I lived in the South for 35 years. Somethings are harder than others to get rid of.). Every year and every trade are new.
  19. To me, these players might be important in trade talks if the Twins and whomever are sort of close to making a deal for Ryan but aren't quite there. For example, if the Twins and Giants are close to a deal but the Twins are hesitating, the Giants would offer to add Bryce Eldrich to the deal if the Twins throw in Danny Coulombe (or any other expiring contract such as Bader or Paddock).
