  1. I would submit the front office as another X factor. They have just six days to make this team an actual contender.
  2. "things are going so well"? Offense is erratic at best. Starters can't go more than six innings (and usually less than five). The bullpen is best described as who is going to screw up the least tonight. Your best player is probably leaving as soon as he can. To me, that does not say that things are going well. Yeah, the Twins are in first but look at their competition. Chicago and Cleveland are both close and neither has been playing well. The Twins may make the playoffs but how long will they last. As for Correa, if the front office can't get any commitment from him this week, the Twins should send him to whoever wants him for the best return they are offered. Something is always better than nothing in my opinion.
  3. If you strongly believe he has no trade value, why would the Twins want to continue paying him a gigantic salary? If he is worth thàt salary, then I would suspect that a legitimate world series contender (and I don't consider the Twins to be one) would ante up whatever it would take to get him. If no acceptable offer surfaces, then hold onto him and hope for a positive outcome.
  4. If the front office cannot get a firm commitment from Correa to play in 2023, the my opinion is that they should trade him for as much as possible. I do not think the current team is built to anywhere in the playoffs even if they add a couple relievers. I think Palacios can handle SS next year until either Lewis is ready or a better option arises.
  5. From the headline, I thought Moran had passed away.
  6. If you understand mathematics, you would realize that you just disproved your premise. Sano at -5 in 500 innings is -1 for each 100 innings. Miranda at -2.5 in around 250 innings also equals -1 for every 100 innings. Sounds like they are interchangeable, and as someone else pointed out, Miranda is most likely a 3B or 2B, not a 1B.
  7. Then how about adding tiers for those that stay Minnesota during the off-season and those that don't. Or tiers for college draft picks, high school draft picks, and those obtained via trade? All the OP asked was who do people consider the top prospect. I think your statement that Lewis and Lee were (in your opinion) the only ones who were potential All-stars pretty much answered the question without having to an extraordinary amount of research and calculations.
  8. Following this logic, if the Twins cannot get a firm commitment from Correa, then the Twins should pivot to seller mode, trade Correa, Urshela, and Duffy, for AAA talent, and load up for 2023.
  9. Question:. In your scenario, what are the parameters for admission to each tier?
  10. Mikey Romero and Tanner Logan look like great 2nd picks for the Twins. Both have strong defense and good offense. And they both play important positions.
  11. But in the end, he was very willing to turn is back on his "truly values what his word means" statement if he got "top 3 round money". Interesting.
  12. So Winder pitched the 9th for the Brewers? Unusual to have a mid-game trade. Who did we get?
  13. Great selection! Another big bat with no position. Get creative for a change.
  14. Thanks. That did help. But it almost sounds like a slimy backroom deal if you do it right. It sort of defeats the purpose of the draft (parity) if you can negotiate before you select. Weird.
  15. The MLB draft is the most confusing of all the professional drafts (to me). I just don't comprehend the "underslot" picks to save money or the fact that a team like the Mets could "force someone to slide down to them". Is there an article out there in cyberspace that anyone knows of that can explain all the high falutin', new fangled rules for the MLB draft?
  16. I agree with dxpavelka. You are throwing away any future chance of being competitive for the slim chance of getting past the loaded Yankees and then the Dodgers. No thanks. My opinion is that the front office needs to acquire 2-3 relief pitchers and then sit back and watch.
  17. Without having seen Collier in person (and also because I'm not a talent evaluator), he strikes me as the guy with the greatest upside and the potential for being a monumental bust that might be available at #8. If the Twins draft him, let's hope the Bryce Harper comparison holds up.
  18. I'm guessing that this series of articles (including the manifesto) are being written only because the front office hasn't done anything yet to address the bullpen problem, and the folks at Twins Daily feel compelled to provide us with interesting reading until that moment arrives. IMHO, there is only one area in which to concentrate and that is replacing about half the bullpen with competent and trustworthy arms. Let's get moving on this Mr. Front Office. Start putting your new Singular Mobile plan to work.
  19. A lot of teams will be looking for another starter so I think the price for any of these five would far exceed their value - especially with the starters we currently have or are in the minors/IL. Throw the prospects at good relievers (and I mean proven relievers, not reclamation projects). Two would be great but three would be even better.
  20. Two comments. 1. Rogers is gone. Get over it. 2. Minaya has been DFA'd so remove him from the charts. That being said - trade for two or three relief pitchers and let's see where the Twins end up.
  21. If the Twins have to pay a little more to obtain a Lopez-like reliever (or several) right now, then do it. All sides win. The players the Twins trade can settle in with their new teams. The Twins will have a stronger bullpen for an extra month. And the teams that the Twins trade with get longer to evaluate their new toys. The front office should have a feeling of "urgency" right now.
  22. The Twins did it back in the 60's. And the fifth batter got booked because he hit a double that missed going out by a couple feet.
  23. Picture yourself as the manager of the Twins. Your starter went four innings and one gave up one hit and one run but also walked six. He's already thrown more pitches than in any other game this year. Would you pull him? I think you probably would. Your four bullpen options are Duffy, Moran, Thornburg, and Cotton. The others were not available without risking arm injury. You go to Moran and then Duffy. Surprise! They give you three scoreless innings. It's now the bottom of the eighth and you have a 3-1 lead. You look to the bullpen and all you have to work with are Thornburg an Cotton. Who would you go to? Cotton, who gave up the winning run yesterday, or Thornburg who is pretty rested? To me, there isn't any choice other than Thornburg and it did not turn out well. But I think Baldelli's decision is absolutely defendable. What's the old saying? You don't go to a gun fight with a knife? Well, that's the position he has been put it.
  24. You still don't get it. I am saying I don't like metrics because the end results are predicated on how the algorithms are designed. The fact that Correa is mentioned is because that's who was being mentioned in the article and, in my opinion, it is an inaccurate representation of his performance.
