  1. You can't trust defensive metrics because they don't agree with your eye test - which you say is very limited because you haven't watched the Twins? Seems more like you just want to hope the defense is better than metrics tell you it is.
  2. Inquiring minds want to know. Seems very odd to take him out so early. Probably just a major arm/shoulder injury.
  3. A trade for Perez would be a brilliant move - for the Rangers. They could get rid of a (most likely) greatly overvalued pitcher just before he implodes. The return would far exceed what the Rangers paid him so far this year.
  4. Why trade for a 1B/3B? That's where the logjam exists. Trade for pitching.
  5. The Twins would be shortening a shaky bullpen only by however long the DFA period lasts (7 or 10 days). But more importantly, Duffy might be the shakiest of the group. So wouldn't that actually be strengthening the bullpen (basic principles of mathematics)?
  6. I agree that there are some older players at AAA but that wasn't what was being implied. I read it as older players get an advantage and that should not be the case.
  7. First paragraph I agree 100%. And then you lost me. Did you think Sano in RF was a defense-first idea? Or how about Sano at 3B? Or Rooker in the OF? In my opinion, the Twins have favored home runs over defense for the past several years. Simmons was probably the only acquisition that was for defense. And the last paragraph, well let's just say I have no idea what the 70's have to do with anything.
  8. I'm sorry but I've just spent ten minutes trying to figure out what you mean. Are you saying that if two players are similar, the older one gets the higher level? If so, but then you say it should not be a consideration at the AAA level. Huh???
  9. I have a question for all of you about the technicalities of DFA. As I understand the DFA process, all it means is removing a player from the 40-man roster for a short amount of time, during which the team can decide what to do with him. The options are putting him on waivers, trading the player, or (if no one wants to trade or claim him off waivers) either an outright release or return him to the 40-man roster. If my understanding is correct, why not DFA Duffy right now? Because his feelings might be hurt? My thought is that finding a phantom illness so he can be put on the IL is not necessary. Just DFA him, see if anyone has any interest in him, and then either trade him, put him back on the roster, or send him down to see if he rediscovers his magic.
  10. In the bullpen usage chart, what is "RL"? I'm hoping "release" but I'm probably wrong.
  11. Question for you, Cody. You stated that last year SWR was 4.5 years younger than the league average. Later you state that so far in 2022, he only faced eight batters older than him. How did he go from way younger to way older in just one year? Did you mean he only has faced eight batters younger?
  12. Please forgive the multiple entries above. I wasn't trying to prove my point through repetition. My tablet was acting like it wasn't posting my comment and I kept hitting "SUBMIT".
  13. When I read some of these comments, I get horrible flashbacks to my youth. "That's the way the game is played now" reminds me of when my mother would ask "If all your friends jumped of a bridge, would you do it too?". And she was right. It's a silly way to operate. If doing what everyone else is doing isn't working, then do something different. I believe (my opinion, not a statement of truth) that Kaat is correct that players are more comfortable with a routine and that includes knowing ahead of time that they are in the lineup. I also believe (again, just my opinion and not an absolute) that playing through an injury is stupid. Either sit on the bench or go on the IL until you are near 100%. If you have to use lesser mortals from the minors for a while, then do it. A healthy minor leaguer isn't much worse (in many instances) than an injured major leaguer. If they aren't, then your farm system sucks.
  14. The Twins have about 50-60 pitchers currently active in the minors. A sample size of Sands is not really a good argument for not bringing someone up.
  15. With Larnach "appearing" to have found his way, it's hard not to be a little excited about the years ahead. If Correa decides to stay, that would be great news. But even if he opts out after this season, Lewis is ready. Urshela, Speer, and Miranda will battle for 3rd and super utility. Polanco is still around for a few more years. Arraez can stay at first, DH, and Utility. The catching is adequate and the minors seem to have a couple of helpers on the way. The outfield with Buxton, Celestino, and Kepler is outstanding on defense and has the potential of being very good offensively. And if Correa leaves there will be a ton of available money for free agent starters and relievers if the Falvine pipeline doesn't come through. I'm going into town from Maine for a Class of '65 golf trip and will be at Target Field on Sunday July 17th. I hope there will be a few Twins still healthy enough to play.
  16. For a guy who won't make his MLB debut until Wednesday, Palacios had a decent game today. Scored a run, took a walk, and had no errors playing SS. I can't wait until he actually debuts!!! ???
  17. Absolutely agree that the front office should be on the phone continually. We have plenty of 2B and DH candidates to spare for a modestly good pitcher (or better).
  18. It's my birthday today and all I'm asking for is a few articles that don't mention the Rogers trade. It happened. It's a done deal. No backsies. Or to put it in plain English, quit beating a dead horse. It seems to me that whenever a discussion starts, the same old arguments get thrown out even if they really aren't relevant to the topic. Yes, the Rogers trade may have been awful, but that doesn't respond to the question: What to do about the bullpen? Given what the Twins have to work with, my thought would be to bring in as many minor leaguer relief pitchers as necessary to see if any of them can do the job. And please don't bother with the 40-man roster excuse. A very quick look at the current 40-man roster shows several players that are potential drops (Thielbar, Stashak, Strotman, Bundy, Pagan, Duffy).
  19. And you know for a fact that Lewis did not inspect the outfield wall in the five hours prior to the game? It must be nice to have that sort of access to Target Field that other mere mortals do not have.
  20. Because I'm the first to offer a comment, let me list all the usual rantings so we can get them out of the way and discuss Kirilloff versus Lewis. 1. When is the incompetent front office going to get an Ace? 2. Why can't the incompetent front office trade for a bunch of Lopez type relievers? 3. Fire Baldo! 4. Trading Rogers was the #1 dumbest move of this century. 5. Why does Baldelli leave his pitchers in so long? (Or the opposite - why doesn't our idiot manager leave pitchers in longer? Obviously, he can't do anything right! As for Lewis or Kirilloff getting the call up if Kepler is IL'd, either is fine with me.
  21. Because Balazovich was mentioned above, I have a question. As I read columns about the Twins minor league pitching from 1500 miles to the east, I consistently hear that Balazovic is the top ranked pitching prospect (or close to it). But when I read the minor league summaries of games, I keep seeing him getting hit hard, only lasting a couple innings, and taking another loss. What is his story? Is he a great prospect or is he an over hyped prospect?
  22. You missed the point. It's an opinion, not a fact. If Bremer also said the same thing, it's still an opinion.
  23. This is what infuriates me. Comments like "he could have easily gone at least another inning, probably even finished the game" stated as god-given truths when they are nothing more than one person's opinion. There is also the scenario where he comes back out for the 8th inning and gets shelled or injures himself. And comments like "it's time to deal both of these guys and load up with Lopez types.". First, who is going to take Theilbar and Duffy? And if anyone did, what would be the return? A ham sandwich and a bag of chips? And second, who are all these Lopez types that can be loaded up? Having said all this, I agree that improvements are needed but some degree of reality should be included. How many (and which) prospects would be needed to trade for Lopez? Is Baltimore even interested in moving Lopez? I have no idea. Hopefully, the front office has an unlimited calling plan and is asking Cincinnati, Baltimore, Pittsburgh and other similarly positioned teams who might be available right now for some help in a year or two.
  24. And in other news, last night in Milwaukee, Hadar pitched his 30th consecutive scoreless inning in relief.
