  1. I meant to say throw inflated ONE YEAR offers at them. Put a strong team on the field in 2022 and give Larnach, Martin, and others another year to be ready.
  2. Hole in LF: Kris Bryant, Joc Peterson, Eddie Rosario, Corey Dickerson, and Kyle Schwarber available. Hole at SS: Story and Correa still available. Starting Pitcher: Greinke, Danny Duffy, and Pineda still available. Relief Pitcher: Collin McHugh, Ryan Tepera, Kenley Jenson, and John Curtis's still available. My suggestion is to use the large war chest available to make inflated offers to all of them, see who is interested, and then negotiate with the ones you like best.
  3. In my opinion, a lot of commenters who have been contributing to the articles about recent trades by the front office have one thing in common. They all want instant gratification. In some cases, less than a day passed before the rants began proclaiming this trade or that trade is a total failure because the next move hadn't happened. I'm waiting until Opening Day to decide if I like all the trades. There may be a number of other trades being worked on, along with the signing of a couple free agents. Relax; enjoy the warming weather; daylight savings starts soon; get your vegetable gardens ready; etc.
  4. There is a rumor now that Correa would consider a one-year mega deal. Why not throw $40M at him for 2022? See if he bites and then worry about SS next year. Maybe Palacios or Lewis prove they can play SS and then you can focus on pitching. Sign Pineda now and trade for Castillo or Montas.
  5. I'm not making any comment on this trade because I think there might be more activity yet to come. I want to see what the roster looks like on April 1st. However, I would like to mention that, by my count, there were only two mentions of Correa being a target. The money is there to give him what he wants. And he is a much better player than Story.
  6. Only if the FA wanted to sign with the Twins. People seem to refuse to acknowledge the fact that it takes both sides to agree on a contract.
  7. Your assumption about a visa is correct. No contract = no visa.
  8. I forgot all about the ghost win concept. What an asinine idea!! Give the better (in theory) team a one-game start to a series is about the dumbest thing I've heard.
  9. I guess I just look at the problem of boring baseball different than most. Whether a pitch is thrown in 14 seconds or 24 seconds is immaterial to me. That brief period of time doesn't cause me to yawn or fall asleep. For me, it is the endless swings and misses trying for home runs. It is a batter facing a shift and trying to beat it by hitting the ball through six players. Wee Willie Keeler once said just "hit 'em where they ain't!" It is the lack of any threat of a stolen base. I miss the days when you were actively involved between pitches because Maury Wills, Lou Brock, or Ricky Henderson was on base. Remember when Rod Carew stole home 7 times in a single season? That is exciting baseball and makes you pay attention the entire game.
  10. The Twins' shortstop problem has been solved. Congratulations to us!
  11. I hope the Twins put Martin at SS with the Saints and Palacios at SS with the Wind Surge and see if either might prove to be the solution for a huge weakness and allow the Twins to concentrate on improving the pitching.
  12. As I mentioned in another story, last week former GM Jim Duquette and announcer Mike Ferrin on MLB radio were talking about the Twins as one of the teams being linked to Trevor Story. They both agreed that it would be foolish for the Twins to spend that money on Story because Royce Lewis is very close to becoming their everyday shortstop. They both were very certain that Lewis is, and would remain, the Twins shortstop of the future - and possibly as soon as this summer. I'm pretty confident that these two are a lot more knowledgeable about Lewis's chances than I am, so I am very encouraged. Welcome to the Show, Royce.
  13. As a Minnesota native who spent over 20 years in Texas, please pass along this advice.... You're a Texan! The next time you have an ice storm, STAY THE HELL INDOORS!!!!!
  14. Just a quick update on this topic. Yesterday I was listening to Power Alley on MLB radio and they were discussing where Story might end up. They mentioned that the Twins were among the teams often mentioned as a possible landing spot but they quickly dismissed that idea. And the reason they gave for the Twins not signing Story was that it would be a waste of money with Royce Lewis poised to take over the shortstop position. Both commentators agreed that Lewis will be the Twins' shortstop in the very near future. I found that to be very good news. These guys (as former GMs) know a lot more than I do (and I believe most of the rest of us on TD) and that gives me a good feeling going forward about the shortstop dilemma. They went on to say that the Twins were much better served by spending that kind of money on pitching. So we all agree with them on that point.
  15. Who are the two young catchers who show great talent?
  16. I'm hoping that Celestino has NO impact during the 2022 season. That would mean Buxton has stayed healthy and in center field. But..... I also think that Celestino will do very well if he is called up regardless of the reason.
  17. Sabato sounds like a perfect candidate to trade to a rebuilding NL team when the DH becomes universal.
  18. There is a huge difference between fixing and betting. Rose was never thought to have fixed a game, just bet on them. Against the rules? Yes, but should it keep him out of the Hall of Fame? In my opinion, no. Joe Jackson played with people that were thought to "fix" the world series but he hit .375 with an OPS of .957 and he committed no errors. Does that sound like fixing? But again, I say it is part of baseball history and if his body of work merits induction, then put him in.
  19. To me, the solution isn't complicated. Cooperstown should have a wing dedicated to the steroid era and enshrine all Hall of Fame honorees from that era in it. It's part of baseball history and future generations should know about it. Bonds, Clemens, McGuire, etc. were all incredible baseball players and should be acknowledged as such - as long as the other side of the story is also told. Pete Rose and Shoeless Joe Jackson should also be in the Hall of Fame along with details of why they were kept out for so long. History contains both good and bad (and probably more bad than good) and both sides should be openly available to everyone to read.
  20. Two questions. 1. The baseball card lists him at 240 pounds, but the article says 215. Which is it? 2. All his scouting grades are 50 or higher, but his overall is 45. Are there other components that he sucks at?
  21. With as much money that the Twins haven't spent this offseason, why not sign all three?
  22. The latest I read at MLBRumors.com is that the draft is postponed for now but expected to happen after the CBA is agreed to.
  23. ERA was lower in the second half. Batting Average Against was higher. Slugging percentage was higher. OBP was lower. K/9 went up. BB/9 went down. WHIP went down. FIP went down. xFIP went down.
