  1. And just what is the market value for Berrios? No one knows yet because he doesn't reach free agency until after next season. If Berrios continues to pitch well, then the Twins can either make an offer or not. But when the big spenders (Dodgers, Padres, Mets, etc.) Make offers in the $30M AAV range, don't expect the Twins to join the bidding. That isn't financially possible.
  2. I've now completed a 180 degree reversal on Byron Buxton. I now think the he and the Twins will arrive at a mutually agreeable contract (part guaranteed and part incentives) after this season.
  3. What in the world makes you think that Berrios would sign a five-year, $75M contract? He and his agent are looking at a much bigger contract. And he has said quite clearly that he wants to test the free agent market. Trade him now for as much as you can and then go after him in 2022.
  4. Why make contact and possibly win the game when maximum exit velocity is the goal of nearly all Twins' batters???
  5. Did you mean replace either Crow-Armstrong or Bath with Matt Allen?
  6. Cave needs to get "injured" again soon so the Twins can bring up Contreras. A strong defender would be nice. I also think Donaldson should experience calf problems so Morales can be called up. There are plenty of 40-man slots that could be DFA'd.
  7. What if those minor leaguers are busting their asses, hustling on every play, and trying to win? Isn't that better than watching the current team go through the motions?
  8. Bring up everyone that has a remote chance of being on the Twins in 2022 to see what they can do. Put all the current players who are being substituted for that do not have any options left on the 60-day IL with some mysterious injury. There are more than two months of baseball yet to be played. Use it as an early spring training for next year.
  9. The Angels looked like little leaguers in the video.
  10. I will add one more comment. Why was Celestino still on second when the throw went to home, there was a collision and the catcher looks out cold and the ball is loose?
  11. Do league rules allow the Twins to begin negotiations for next season with Cruz right now???
  12. That depends on what the Twins get back when they trade him in the next couple of days. If, instead, they extend him, no harm no foul. The only way they are truly worse off is if they allow him to walk after 2022.
  13. We would be better off today? I think the Twins would have the exact same team except possibly without Donaldson if they had met whatever demands Berrios might have had. Berrios would still be Berrios. And what if his demands were for 10 years and $250M? Is that a worthwhile "investment?"
  14. I think I would rather to a fire sale this month and stockpile money and prospects. I think the roster below would be more fun to watch in 2022 than this year's team. Catchers:. Garver and Jeffers 1B: Kirilloff 2B: Polanco SS: Free Agent Signing 3B: Miranda LF: Larnach CF: Gordon RF: Celestino DH: Rooker SP: Ober, Winder, Duran, Balazovic, Sands, Barnes, Viallmont RP: Moran, Cano, Law, Jeff, Vasquez, Hamilton, Rogers That's 24 roster spots. I left two vacant for unknown acquisitions. I would bet you would at least see hustle.
  15. That is the very definition of a Twins' fan.
  16. My comment was more about the Twins than the young man. He appears to be a perfect Twins' pick based on past drafts. And if the Twins do draft him, I predict a bust. If anyone else picks him, he will blossom into the next Glad Guerrero Jr. I apologize for making my original comment sound like I was disparaging Baez.
  17. Joshua Baez is the biggest "boom or bust?". Sounds like a Twins' pick to me. And I'll predict bust.
  18. Once again the often repeated mantra of use the money to extend (or resign) Berrios. He's going to test the free agency market. No doubt about it. Signing anyone takes two sides to agree and with Berrios (and probably Buxton also) there is only one side that wants to sign before free agency - the front office. Ain't going to happen kiddies! Get used to it!
  19. Normally, people complain the Rocco pulls starters far too soon. Now it's because he leaves them in too long. I'm beginning to think that a lot of people just don't like anything Rocco does.
  20. Two questions. 1. Are saying to keep Cruz because all he would bring in return is an AA level player? 2. What does "surly not too notch" mean?
  21. Why not? According to most of the "experts" on MLB radio, Berrios wants to test free agency. If that happens, the Twins have nothing to show for keeping him. If they trade him now when he will be the #1 pitcher in demand at the trade deadline (again according to MLB radio), they get something back. And they can still try to sign him when he does go to free agency. Win-Win. People seem to forget that a contract involves two sides. If one side doesn't want to sign (Berrios and probably Buxton), then there will be no contract no matter what the offer is. This isn't baseball that existed before Lou Brock.
  22. Two former GMs were on MLB radio this morning discussing the trade deadline. Both agreed that, because the Nationals are now in the pennant race and Max Scherzer was not longer going to be traded, that Jose Berrios was now the number one target for any team needing starting pitching. They both agreed that the price for Berrios would be very high but that several teams in need (and maybe more if Trevor Bauer gets into legal problems) would be in the running for him. That is very promising for the Twins front office. If a couple others can be moved for decent returns, 2022 looks interesting and 2023 looks exciting.
