  1. I say we bring back proper grammar and correct spelling. Ah! The Good Old Days.
  2. Maybe Sano can write in BIG CAPITAL LETTERS in his journal: WHEN I HAVE TWO STRIKES AGAINST ME, DON'T SWING AT A LOW AND AWAY SLIDER!!!!
  3. So, Seth, as long there isn't any written rule against what the Astros did, why were people suspended? I have no argument with Rose's suspension, but he wasn't cheating to win and tarnishing the game. I believe that cheating to win is more agregious than betting you can beat someone.
  4. I am not a big fan of Pete Rose after his betting scandal but it sure feels unfair to me that he gets banned for life for betting on his team while Hinch only got a year suspension for cheating to win. Just my two cents.
  5. But how often are weather forecasts correct. My method is to look outside and see if the sidewalk is wet and I am usually right.
  6. So if your starting pitcher has retired 18 straight batters and has thrown 70 pitches, the "metrics" tell you to yank him to avoid the "third time though penalty"? What a load of #$@. Why would you replace a known quality with someone from the bullpen whom you haven't seen throw a pitch today? Analytics are taking instinct and common sense out of baseball and is trying to make a Nintendo game out of it. And I do realize that the Nintendo reference dates me. I was going to say Intellivision (which I owned) but I figured not many of you would know what that was.
  7. Here is a hypothetical trade to consider. Would you trade Rosario and Sano as a package if you could get back Trevor Bauer, a good middle reliever, a good utility player, and two High-A or AA prospect (or international money)? That's the same as trading Sano for the reliever and a prospect and Rosario for the utility player and a prospect. Trade partners may even be willing to part with more than I've mentioned, but my trades are based on presenting the minimum the Twins might get back. And then the Twins can use the salary relief (plus some additional - maybe another $10M) to sign Trevor Bauer. I think both trades would be very acceptable to other teams. Personally, with all the talent the Twins have who are about ready to break into the big leagues, it would be a good move.
  8. Until MLB moves to automated pitch calling, I think it should implement standards for umpires. If Joe West and Angel Hernandez fall below a minimum requirement for correct calls, they are sent to the minors or fired. Borderline "incorrect" calls that may have nicked the edge of the plate can be tolerated. But it's the pitches clearly within the strike zone called balls or pitches three or four (or more) inches off the plate that are called strikes that have to be eliminated.
  9. Assuming the Twins part ways with Rosario, Odorizzi, Hill and Gonzales, along with the already dropped Bailey, the Twins free up almost $45M from the 2020 payroll. That should be enough for Trevor Bauer and a few other pieces.
  10. This review gives me hope. And that hope is that if Thorpe is "still a commodity other teams would give a shot to," the Twins trade him this off-season for whatever they can get.
  11. If a professional baseball player can't intentionally hit a weak ground ball to a vacant area of the infield, he should be sent to the minors until he perfects that skill. If you want to get rid of shifts, start hitting the ball where six opponents aren't standing.
  12. I can see the point of the previous commenters. Why would anyone want a guy who can get on base when you have a dugout filled with guys that hit .220 and strike out 50% of the time.
  13. Francisco Lindor is a free agent and would solve the SS problem. And he would add a bat that can actually make contact with a pitch. Trade away Sano, Polanco, Kepler. Replace Sano and Kepler with Rooker/Larnach and Kirilloff. And if Lewis looks ready, bring him up to play all the outfield spots as a replacement for whomever needs a rest.
  14. So tell me Darius. How do you really feel about the Twins?
  15. Questions for the off-season: 1. Can Sano be salvaged or is he done? 2. Who to get rid off outright? Gonzales, Astudillo, Adrienza, Avila, Romo, ? 3. Who to trade? Rosario, Thorpe, Smeltzer?? 4. What else? It's officially the off-season......
  16. Bad defense at 1B (lack of foot work cost errors in both games). Good bye Marwin. No bitching about needed an ace for the big games. Maeda and Berrios were great. Remember pitch to contact? How about hit with contact? Put the damn bat on the ball. And bring in the K Box as the umpire. The calls for both teams were horrible. Kiriloff looked like the best hitter we had and it was his first game above AA ball. Pitiful showing by the Twins.
  17. I think that with the way the Yankees (the probable opponent) are hitting right now, our best chance will be with a rotation of Sandy Koufax, Don Drysdale, Bob Gibson, Greg Maddux, and Randy Johnson.
  18. So you post a Japanese language video with Asian subtitles (presumably also Japanese) to help us get insight into Maeda. Not really very helpful.
  19. Looking at the pitch chart, I only see two pitches that are clearly outside the zone (and three that may or may not be touching the edge). I don't think this qualifies as "all over the place.". I don't think the umpire was the problem.
  20. That kind of speed is not humanly possible.
  21. I thought the pitch framing last night was about as good as it gets. On every close pitch, Jeffers glove was moving from beyond the strike zone back into the strike zone in a very subtle, fluid motion. I don't know how much this actually fools the umpire, but it sure looked good to me. Great start for Jeffers.
  22. That list shows other teams' needs. Did it also show what other teams had to offer?
  23. Has anyone else noticed that Buxton's home run "trot" seems faster than most of the league trying for a triple?
