    The announcers said Kepler and Sano went on the IL. Any news about that? Also, I liked AJ Pierzinski's comment that Baldelli's handling of the bullpen is textbook for wearing out arms. He just couldn't understand why Gray was done after 79 pitches. And neither do I.

    Buxton finished the game in center field and stole a base in the 8th. Didn't look hurt to me.

    It's a seller's market. Time to join the fun and see how desperate other teams are. Offer up Kepler, Sano, Urshela, Sanchez, Cave, Beckham, and even Polanco. Who knows what you might get offered? And if no one offers anything of value, keep the players and you are no worse off than you are now. This season is over.

    Castillo to the Mariners for their first, third, fifth, and a mid-teens prospect. That would (I think) be like Lewis, Emmanuel Rodriguez, Canterino, and Gibson-Long? Worth it for a couple extra regular season wins and one playoff win? Not to me.

    I agree wholeheartedly. Beckham looks like a great trade chip. I was also wondering if it is legal for a Twins pitcher to go seven innings?

    You have an opinion. I have an opinion. I like mine. You like yours. That does not mean either of us are wrong. We just have different opinions. That's why I refrain from saying things like "the team you envision is no more a contender then the team they have this year is". That sounds like a statement of fact when in reality it is just someone's opinion.

    I would be happy going into the off-season with the following: Outfield: Buxton, Larnach, and Kepler Infield: Kirilloff, Polanco, Palacios/Lewis, and Miranda DH: Arraez ? TBD Pitchers: Gray, Maeda, Ryan, Winder, Duran, Moran, and Jax Bench: Alcala, Celestino, Jeffers, and Gordon That's a payroll of around $67M. Assuming a budget of $130M, that leaves $63M remaining to add two starters, two relievers, and an additional bat or two. The surplus of talent in the minors (rule 5 eligible players and multiple infielders) can be used to trade for some additions and $$$ used for the rest.

    I love it when people point to one or two examples to prove their point while disregarding how bad this team is and the historical evidence that bad teams seldom win. "But the Twins in 89 and he Braves in 2021 did it." That's twice in 33 years.

    To me, the 2022 Minnesota Twins are finished. Even if they manage to hang on to the Central Division, they will probably be ousted from the playoffs in the first round. So my question is: Should we start planning for next year? For a quick summary to start things going, I think that all the Twins need for 2023 are 1. Three good starting pitchers. 2. Four good relief pitchers. 3. A solid catcher who can hit .250. 4. Better bench players. 5. A new manager? (I'm still in a quandary about this). That doesn't seem like too much to ask, does I?

    I absolutely agree with your last sentence. It's time to start building the 2023 Twins.

    This team is not going anywhere this year and will need some major off-season improvement to go anywhere next year. If the front office wants to trade anyone, they need to determine: A) Which players aren't in next year's plans, and Which players might possibly be lost in the rule 5 draft. Those are the players to trade. Two relievers aren't going to move the needle enough to get past the Yankees, Astros, Blue Jays, or Rays.

    Garlic ended any hope for a Twins' victory by getting doubled off 2B. There were so many things wrong with his thinking, it is not worth getting into. What a bonehead.

    I would submit the front office as another X factor. They have just six days to make this team an actual contender.

    "things are going so well"? Offense is erratic at best. Starters can't go more than six innings (and usually less than five). The bullpen is best described as who is going to screw up the least tonight. Your best player is probably leaving as soon as he can. To me, that does not say that things are going well. Yeah, the Twins are in first but look at their competition. Chicago and Cleveland are both close and neither has been playing well. The Twins may make the playoffs but how long will they last. As for Correa, if the front office can't get any commitment from him this week, the Twins should send him to whoever wants him for the best return they are offered. Something is always better than nothing in my opinion.

    Because money in major league baseball appears to be a theoretical entity, just split the difference and move on. My biggest question is : Why have a ceiling at all if any team can surpass it as long as the are wealthy enough to do so? The penalty of losing a draft pick in return for outspending everyone else for the best players seems out of proportion.

    If you strongly believe he has no trade value, why would the Twins want to continue paying him a gigantic salary? If he is worth thàt salary, then I would suspect that a legitimate world series contender (and I don't consider the Twins to be one) would ante up whatever it would take to get him. If no acceptable offer surfaces, then hold onto him and hope for a positive outcome.

    If the front office cannot get a firm commitment from Correa to play in 2023, the my opinion is that they should trade him for as much as possible. I do not think the current team is built to anywhere in the playoffs even if they add a couple relievers. I think Palacios can handle SS next year until either Lewis is ready or a better option arises.

    If you understand mathematics, you would realize that you just disproved your premise. Sano at -5 in 500 innings is -1 for each 100 innings. Miranda at -2.5 in around 250 innings also equals -1 for every 100 innings. Sounds like they are interchangeable, and as someone else pointed out, Miranda is most likely a 3B or 2B, not a 1B.

    Then how about adding tiers for those that stay Minnesota during the off-season and those that don't. Or tiers for college draft picks, high school draft picks, and those obtained via trade? All the OP asked was who do people consider the top prospect. I think your statement that Lewis and Lee were (in your opinion) the only ones who were potential All-stars pretty much answered the question without having to an extraordinary amount of research and calculations.
