  1. And all these problems are in a sport with built-in social distancing. What the heck are the NHL, NBA, and NFL thinking? Those sports will be walking Petrie dishes for the virus. I love sports but it's time to shut them down until the country gets this under control.
  2. I totally agree. It's a pleasure to watch him work the pitcher until he gets a pitch he likes. During one at bat yesterday, the camera did a closeup of Arraez and you could see him take a look at both the first and third base sides of the field looking for the best spot to hit the ball. That was impressive.
  3. Living in Maine, I haven't seen Stashek pitch much. Color me impressed. Wherever Garver put the target, Stashek put the ball. The only hit was on a pitch thrown exactly where Garver wanted it. Quite a performance by the bullpen.
  4. I'm afraid that every team's lineup will be the best nine hitters who are not in quarantine with COVID-19 that day.
  5. My brother sold the Twins their first video system in the early 60's and I contribute to Twins Daily periodically. My brother was 20 years older than me and sort of a father figure. Does that count?
  6. Any relation to the Torkelson that played running back for the Packers and Peter Tork of the Monkeys? If there is, he's less intimidating.
  7. These reviews are interesting to read (especially this year with nothing else happening in the world of sports). However, after reading the redrafting articles and seeing names of so many first round picks that are unknown to me, I am thinking that spending millions on draft picks might be a huge waste of money. Maybe a better approach would be to trade draft picks for AA or AAA players that scouts think highly of?
  8. These are definitely desperate times for Twins Daily writers.
  9. The simple answer is that Polanco remains the Twins shortstop until someone better shows up.
  10. Is that Joe Mauer batting right handed in the picture?
  11. 12 wins in under 80 innings. Amazing but how about Elroy Face going 18-1 while pitching under 100 innings (no starts). That was an amazing year.
  12. Kaat's fielding should move him up. No pitcher in baseball was a better fielder during his career.
  13. If you want to cherry pick stats, how about waistlines? Killebrew tops them all. Or maybe height? Mauer gets my vote. Furthest distance from home? Carew wins that.
  14. You realize how old you are when the first person to come to mind as a cousin of Jose Miranda is Carmen Miranda.
  15. A couple years ago, my late brother told this story about the Twins and technology. In the early years of the Minnesota Twins, my brother was the upper Midwest Panasonic sales representative and he approached the Twins with a new technology that would help their hitters improve: video cameras. The players and coaches liked the concept and agreed that it might help the hitters get out of slumps or improve their averages. And even pitchers might find some value in it. But the big hurdle to getting this technology was convincing Calvin Griffith to part with $10,000. My brother told me it took months of meetings and pleas from players like Allison, Killebrew, and Battey to finally get Griffith to agree. And now we measure how much pressure the little toe exerts on an optimal swing. Quite the change in 60 years.
  16. I agree that the Twins have four good prospects but I think the article was attempting to show prospects that are comparable to Graterol. Balazovic doesn't throw as hard but also has more than two good pitches which (I think) is why he did not get more coverage. In any event, he may be the best of the four. If they all improve this year, the 2021 rotation might be Bedrooms and these four young guys. That would be awesome.
  17. I am also in favor of the young arms. HOWEVER, I am also not rooting for the failure of seasoned veterans just so the young arms get a chance. It's a long season and I want to see the best arms in the system on the mound.
  18. I think you can grade this off season right now. The front office did what the could to improve the pitching and the hitting. They did two things that all TD posters complained that the Twins never do: they signed a high-dollar free agent and they traded a valued "prospect" for a proven starter. Maybe none of this works but it doesn't diminish what they accomplished. Good job!
  19. I went to a ticket website and they had tickets starting at $28 and going as high as $108 for games at Hammond Field. Tell me that ain't true?????
  20. Nothing better than baseball outdoors in Minneapolis (or Boston, Detroit, Cleveland, etc.) in November. The only thing I would implement is getting rid of the one game playoff. Best of three but not all three games in the home park of the higher ranked team.
  21. Jeffers and Duran can't make it into the Twins top five prospects. What a dynamic farm system they have. Future looks bright.
  22. Accent on the middle syllable for each name? How do you pronounce HTH? Or even better, what does it mean?
  23. It took me several years before I could figure out how to pronounce the blonde woman's name on The Big Bang Theory and now the Twins draft this kid. Can someone spell it phonetically for me?? At first I thought they drafted Keanu Reeves!
  24. Obviously I was not involved in orchestrating this trade. But the way I read it is that the Dodgers needed to send more to Boston to complete the Betts/Price transaction and the Red Sox did not want Maetta. So the Dodgers suggested Graterol and the Sox said "Yes, Please!". So the Dodgers sent Maetta to Minnesota for Graterol and then traded him to Boston. If Boston now thinks Graterol is unhealthy, then the Dodgers should be on the hook, not the Twins. But all that aside, why would Boston not just take Maetta if they had to have a starter? I do think it's buyer's remorse and now they want to save face. Hold your position Falvine.
