  1. But it is so much easier to cherry pick a single statistic to "prove" whatever point of view that you prefer. (Insert sarcasm emoji here ?.)
  2. For Saints games, does the word "home" now mean both home run and homer? It was used twice so I assume it wasn't laziness.
  3. Based on the past few years, I would think the expansion slots will be filled by activating IL players and keeping aging veterans who will not be back in 2023. No young talent will be given a taste of the major leagues.
  4. The game was a national broadcast by Fox, but it was blacked out in Portland Maine! WTF??? With which team was this game a conflict? The Red Sox were already being broadcast by NESN so that wasn't a problem. NYC is the next closest team and they are 320 miles away. That happens quite often.
  5. Does anyone remember Jose Palacios? Personally, I would rather have him at $700K than Urshela at $10M.
  6. I am getting the impression that you don't think too highly of Rocko Baldelli? You might be overlooking the team he was given by the front office with which to work. In my opinion, the early season (unexpected) success clouded the judgment of many about the quality of this team.
  7. I disagree. Let's take a quick, outside-the-box look at 2023. Here is my starting eight position players. C. Alex Isola 1B. Luis Arraez 2B. Eduard Julian SS. Jermaine Palacios 3B. Jose Miranda LF. Trevor Larnach CF. Byron Buxton RF. Alex Kirilloff Bench 1. Ryan Jeffers Bench2. Gilberto Celestino Bench3. Nick Gordon Bench4. TBD SP1. Joe Ryan SP2. Kenta Maeda SP3. Tyler Mahle SP4. Sonny Gray SP5. Chris Paddock RP1. Jhoan Duran RP2. Jorge Lopez RP3. Jovani Moran RP4. Michael Fulmer RP5. Griffen Jax RP6. Caleb Theilbar RP7. Cole Sands RP8. Josh Winder RP9. TBD That's a 26-man roster with two vacancies. Rounding the second year salaries to an even $1M and giving arbitration-eligible players a small bump, this results in about a $77M payroll. Using $130M as the target budget, this gives the Twins $53M with which to find another corner outfielder and a starting pitcher. It also would give them an opportunity to replace a couple of relief pitchers that I have listed above. When do we start on 2024? ?❓
  8. Now is the time for auditioning as many younger players as possible. The Twins will probably not make the playoffs and they have many off-season decisions ahead. The remainder of the 2022 season is their research and development time.
  9. Whether or not the Twins can afford Correa for another season is immaterial. The decision is Correa's, not the Twins.
  10. Question: Several posters have said that if Correa opts in, he gives up all leverage to negotiate with the Twins. Is that accurate? Even if he signs up for year two, can't the two parties still negotiate a long-term deal?
  11. I don't think it is extreme at all. None of the four mentioned to be DFA'd will probably be on the team next year. And (unlike last year), bringing up some younger players can't hurt.
  12. They did this to be able to have one more person play out of position. ?
  13. Even the "bench clearing brawl" lacked any emotion from the Twins. It appeared that they were thinking that the "unwritten" rules of baseball demanded that they go out to show support for their pitcher and so they lackadaisically meandered out and wandered around the infield. Whoop-de-do
  14. Maybe running isn't the method of conditioning he needs to be doing? I have no suggestions because I'm not a medical professional nor do I have access to his medical files. For all I know, he might benefit more from yoga or Tai Chi. Just looking fit and trim (which sounds like a low-fat yogurt) does not necessarily mean you are in top condition.
  15. I concur. My belief is that what you describe is the result of the three true outcome of hitting nonsense that is so popular. Swing as hard as you are physically able at approximately a 20 degree launch angle (or whatever the magic number is) and hope for a positive result. And that is why the Twins have a player with 28 home runs and only 55 RBIs. In comparison, the Twins have a rookie who has played 10% fewer games and has only two less RBIs. I would rather have a team of players like the latter than players like the former. And, of course, there are infinite examples (slight exaggeration) of "grounded out into the shift." A bunt would result in a single and a hard bunt that rolled into the outfield might even get you a double. Three outcome baseball is stupid baseball.
  16. A few days ago, I asked that posters take a few extra seconds to review what they wrote to be sure that what they are about to post is readable, understandable, and what they are intending to say. Above are two examples from a single post which I just read. The first example ends with a phrase that is totally incomprehensible (something about Sanchez's mouth??). The second example actually supports the fact that the two players mentioned are in the majors (and I am pretty sure that the opposite was intended). This is NOT a comment about umterp23. He just happened to have two good examples for me to use. There are plenty of others. And, yes I did review my entry.
  17. That was the name I chose in 1984 for my first Rotisserie Baseball team. I've used it ever since.
  18. Two comments: 1. Because I am in Maine, I have to follow the game on the Bleacher Reports live feed. In doing so, I created a drinking game for my own amusement. I get a fresh beer every time the live feed reads "Kepler: Ground out to shallow right field." This limits my beer intake to just two or three each game. 2. To contributors, please take an extra moment to read your post before submitting. All of the auto corrections, misspellings, bad grammar, missing words, etc. make understanding your posts more difficult than it needs to be.
  19. Don't you just hate auto correct? Why is there a "relief picture Ken Phil" or having faith in some pagan reliever?
  20. Sorry Doctor Gast but I think that fewer innings by the starters does wear out the bullpen. I also think that the third time through the lineup theory might be a Catch 22 situation (or a set up for failure). Why, you ask? If the management philosophy (or the analytics department) have determined that the third time through the lineup has a declining positive impact, then the on-field management team no longer will spend time and energy on stretching out their starters - which, in turn, leads to a poorer performance by the starters if they ever face a lineup for a third time. And that just reinforces their belief that facing a lineup for a third time is bad. Catch 22. I would really like to see a spring training where pitchers are truly stretched out and see if they can go 7 or 8 innings without a significant decline the third time through the lineup. Back in the olden times (when I was just a fifty-year old), pitchers routinely went longer outings and they also seemed to have far fewer injuries. I am in of the opinion that if you are programmed (i.e. stretched out) to perform at a high level for nine innings, you can maintain à high level of competence for at least 6 or 7 innings which greatly reduces the workload of the bullpen.
  21. My thoughts. 1. Correa opts out and hopes for a big contract (but doesn't get it). 2. Palacios takes over SS and plays until Lewis is ready. Then a decision needs to be made. If Palacios is playing well, does Lewis take over RF or LF? 3. Extend Miranda for ten years at $85M. 4. Find a catcher. 5. Resign Fullmer. Convert two or three minor league starting pitchers to relievers (take your pick of the many that have been mentioned this year). That gives the Twins eight or nine arms in the bullpen (Fullmer, Lopez, Duran, Jax, Moran, Thielbar, and the converted minor league starters). Fill the remaining slots with current minor league relievers. 6. Use the remaining $55M for two starters and a catcher. And ask Pohlad for an extra $5M or $10M to make sure at least one is better than Mahle/Gray. 7. That takes care of 2023. Should we start on 2024 next? ??
