  1. I dislike a metrics based analysis of baseball and there is a perfect example of why in the article above. "Kirilloff's fly out in the second left his bat at 98.9 MPH." So what? If he had hit it 68.9 MPH, maybe it would have dropped in. An out is still an out no matter how hard you hit the ball. And yes I know the arguments about how much better it is to hit it hard, but good contact can be seen with the good old eye test.
  2. Did I say "manipulate them to say Correa is bad"? No, I did not. I just said that I don't put my faith in them.
  3. Two brief comments. 1. How many of you predicted the Archer and Bundy would be the best pitches in June? 2. How many prospects does it take to make a trade for both Marquez and Bard? (Sounds like the start of a bad joke.)
  4. The metrics say that Correa is a bad defender. I think that is all I need to hear to eliminate analytic metrics from any discussion of baseball. As someone who worked with statistics his entire career, I know they can be manipulated to prove anything you want. I've done it. It's easy, deceptive, and should be immoral. But I worked with government and DOD so it was required.
  5. How about Polanco, Steer, and Sands for Alcantara?
  6. Polanco is also someone a team trying to improve would agree to take in a trade (probably along with a prospect or two) for someone who might help them now.
  7. Yes, the Twins are doing a job with Miranda. But is that job good or bad? ???
  8. The Twins could always trade Polanco at the deadline and insert Miranda at 2B.
  9. In Baldelli's first three years, he averaged 17 steals a season. I think he has a grasp on the concept.
  10. Just Say No! - to Jace Jung. The Twins do not need another "strong bat with a questionable defensive future." They have enough of those already.
  11. Excellent point! I remember when Killebrew got his first $100,000 contract. What a shocking amount.
  12. My experience at umpiring agrees with you. I don't remember ever using the catcher's glove as a point of reference. Of course, I have to also add that I don't remember why I got up so early either.
  13. Or if the Twins just would score one more run than the opponents, they would win.
  14. Relief is the smarter route to take. Especially with the Dodgers, Braves, and others looking for starters (my source for that is the two former general managers on MLB radio on Sirius XM).
  15. A very encouraging article. The next time I play a statistic-based baseball board game like Strat-O-Matic, I'll be sure to use Jeffers.
  16. Hells Bells. I watched the first Twins' game in 1961. Don't accuse me o elder abuse. And get off my lawn!!!!
  17. Rocco waited too long. Rocco pulled him too fast. Come on folks. Make up your mind!
  18. One worry I have about pursuing Montas or Castillo is that the Dodgers will also be doing the same thing. Their pitching has been hit by the injury bug and they will be very active. It's tough competing against them for trade partners.
  19. Your comment just proves the Baldelli cannot do anything right in the minds of some fans.
  20. And how does any of the above relate to Baldelli's mindset late in games? Or did you forget which thread you were reading? Your post should probably be in the trades and rule 5 thread.
  21. I would send Tyler Duffy but only give him a one-way ticket.
  22. I just watched the play again (multiple times) on YouTube and I agree that it's unclear. It appears that his shoulder and head were the primary points of contact with the wall. My thought is that he hurt the knee when he recoiled off the wall. It didn't look to me like his knee ever made contact with the wall.
  23. And the first time, he was walking down his front steps. The front office should have forbidden him from doing that. I blew out a knee playing 3B. It could happen anywhere.
  24. One little negative comment. Tonight was a perfect example of why I am strongly against the often espoused theory that defense isn't important at first base. A good defender at first would not have missed the bag on Jax' great play and would definitely not have dropped Polanco's throw from right field. Fortunately, neither play hurt tonight. And as Vanimal46 pointed out, they paled in comparison to Stanton's antics in right field.
