    I don't understand how people can be so worried about the number of walks that Moran allows and then get all excited about pursuing Moore who also gives up a lot of walks. Why spend $10M on Moore when you already have a much younger version for $1M?

    The obsession with power appears to be hindering as many players as it helps. Why would any team go after a player and then try to change him into a player he isn't? Reminds me of when the Vikings gave up players and draft picks for the best I-back in the NFL and tried to turn him into a two-back player. That sure turned out well (for Dallas). Let Martin be himself and be satisfied with what he can bring to the team.

    Which do you feel is better? Maximize a player's potential or use a player's potential to maximize the team's potential? Personally, I prefer the latter. I would use Lewis at whatever position that places the best Twins team on the field. If Larnach proves to be a better right fielder than left fielder, then put Lewis in LF and Larnach in RF. If Miranda becomes the next Brooks Robinson (for you young folk, that means superior defense), Lewis never plays 3B and will be forever an outfielder. If that ends up becoming a problem of where to play Lee, Lewis, and Salas, the Twins will have valuable assets to trade.

    If (and that's a BIG if) the Twins really need another pitcher, IMHO I think they should wait until the trade deadline. By July (or even June), the Twins will know what holes they need to fill. The need for a position player might be far greater than the need for a pitcher or possibly the currently assumed starting rotation is over performing and Paddock has made a couple successful starts after his long recovery period. Leave the minor leagues alone for now. However, if a really solid pitcher or position player can be acquired by trading Polanco, Kepler, and Gallo, (along with one good prospect outside our top ten), go for it.

    Miami doesn't want older players. I would remove Kepler and Pagan (7.1) and offer them Winder (8.3) and de Andrade (2.9). That would end up with the Twins overpaying (37.6 to 29.6). I think Luzardo is undervalued. Or, turn your sights to Pittsburgh and go big. Twins trade: Miranda (26.4) Ober (21.8) Larnach (14.6) Winder (8.3) Salas (20.5) Total 91.6 Pittsburgh trades: Reynolds (64.2) Bednar (21.9) Total 86.1 Again, it's a slight overpay, but close enough. The right-handed outfielder and relief pitcher problems are addressed.

    No I didn't. But I did play 1B for many years and I can tell a good one from a bad one. Arraez was far closer to the bad end of the spectrum than he was to the good end. I was listening to three former GM's discussing the trade. One of the better comments was that a team doesn't make a trade hoping to "win" the trade. They make a trade to make their team better. The second interesting comment was that both the Marlins and the Twins should be very pleased because the each got what the felt they needed and only lost players that were from a position of strength. (P.S. They also said that the extra two players that the Twins received were a complete shock to them and that the Twins' front office should be congratulated.)

    While I am in agreement with most of what you eloquently presented, I would like to add to one of your statements. I believe that Minnesota "nice" could become an important selling point to free agents if the front office/ownership would loosen up the purse strings to: 1) make a few high-impact trades (Arraez and Kepler for Cabrera) to fill the relatively few holes that the Twins still have, and 2) extend all the young talent that appear to have bright futures. Success in the post-season, coupled with the far less stressful playing atmosphere, might be highly prized by enough free agents to turn the Twins into annual contenders.

    Arraez is the reigning AL batting champion, in 2022, Kepler out performed all Marlins' outfielders except one, and Polanco is better than any Marlins' current 2B. All three are starters for the Twins. Not exactly a bunch of "aging players we don't want". Regardless, as I said in my comment, I would make this the initial offer. You have to start someplace.

    I think that any team that has an Ace, would not trade him unless the Ace were nearing retirement. But with a strong starting pitcher staff, they might be willing to trade a strong number 2 (with a chance to become a number 1) for the right price. Please refer to the brilliant comment above from Terrydactyls for an example. (Oh, wait a moment. That comment came from me!)

    I would offer the Marlins the choice of any two out of Kepler, Arraez, and Polanco for Cabrera - as an initial position. If they ask for more, offer all three. Still not enough? Start adding surplus LH OFs until they say yes. The Twins would have to give up a lot but they also would not be depleting the farm system.

    I call b.s. on this. Have you never seen a SS run full speed for a pop-up in foul territory and end up wrapped around a guardrail? And I don't care if it's a pop-up or a screaming line drive. Running full speed and jumping for a ball remain the same. And just who were the "ample amount of capable OFers"? Garlic? Gordon? Larnach?
