  1. Cool. I have never once used the “cheap Pohlads”. Not once in a decade of posting. I simply think this off season has been a big mistake on their part. That includes not investing in their product at an opportune time and the general disaster their public relations have been. You feel differently and that is cool by me.
  2. I agree that nobody knows what the Twins profit margin is including you. Yet you posit the notion that it’s a break even operation. You ask for people to prove the Twins are raking in money or stop complaining. That cuts both ways - you could be asked to prove the aren’t making any money and that their profit margin is lower than other clubs but you can’t prove that either.
  3. Seriously for all the no more payroll discussions folks. Don’t read them. I want the info. You don’t get to decide what content I receive.
  4. I have a solution for you. Don’t read them. I would like all the relevant information I can get on this topic.
  5. This can’t be true. We all know from posters on this site that the Twins are just scraping by. I mean that has to be correct right?
  6. I agree with this but we are likely to see him this year ready or not. He’s on the 40 man and is likely next up after Varland so we are two injuries away.
  7. I’m sure they would have traded him for Julien plus filler. Payroll dictated that Polanco was the one to be traded. So they may have got value for Polanco but they didn’t get what they really needed. So this payroll BS has affected this season in many ways that aren’t obvious.
  8. That’s a face made for a podcast 😀
  9. I too am looking forward to baseball. But how hard is it to be a fan when you can’t watch? Seth’s list doesn’t matter much when you are being asked to support a team you can’t watch. The Twins could have fixed it but chose money instead.
  10. I’ve posted my disgust about this off-season. But now I would like to give a hat tip to the FO. They were put in a difficult spot trying to improve their roster while their budget was slashed. I didn’t like the Polanco deal but looking at it now it makes sense. It was the only way to free up any money to try and improve the roster in other ways. When the dust settles they will likely end up with just as good a club this year as last. That’s pretty good work considering the pile of crap ownership dumped on them.
  11. Yea the idea that a franchise purchased for $32 million increased in value to almost $2 billion but doesnt make a profit on an annual basis is pretty far fetched
  12. So it puts them back to where their were last year. They are 20th out of 30 in payroll right now. Their current payroll relative to the league is the lowest since they were in the Metrodome. I guess the Pohlads just can’t afford to own a team that wants to compete. Perhaps they should sell and pocket the nearly $2 billion increase in the value of the franchise. I’m sure the Pohlads thank you for your concern over their finances.
  13. This. A thousand times this. The Pohlads have proven this time and again with their actions throughout their ownership tenure.
  14. I had no issue with the podcast. There are a lot of people parsing numbers to defend the Pohlads which is mind boggling to me. The Pohlads top priority is getting their money and hopefully winning at the same time. They have demonstrated this consistently throughout their ownership tenure which is their right. I think it is actually refreshing to have prominent voices shedding light on it.
  15. I think going with Martin is viable. I still view him as a valuable prospect so wherever he lands he needs to play a lot
  16. Icing on this urinal cake……that is a great line that sums up the situation nicely. The kids free idea is great - I think baseball has a huge problem on its hands with kids / younger generations not caring about baseball. One other thing that hasn’t been discussed much. Why didn’t the Twins go with MLB TV like the Padres? have a sneaky feeling Bally gave them more money and that’s always going to rule the day with this outfit. So yea we feel bad for the fans but not that bad.
  17. I’m really excited about this bullpen. I never cared for the FO approach towards building bullpens in prior years. This year checks all the boxes with quality and quantity.
  18. Well neither of us know for certain what pitchers were available. The only thing we know was Seattle wasn’t trading their pitching for Polanco. Julien has way more trade value than Polo. Julien plus another good prospect is a whole different equation. Obviously we will never know the answer but conceptually I liked that path better.
  19. I also think Julien should have been the one traded. He has great value right now. Combined with a prospect we could have received a good controllable pitcher. Polo could handle second and be traded in the off season after Lee shows he is ready for the bigs. Club would be stronger all around.
  20. I e watched him pitch. The numbers you cited are pretty similar. Festa will need to obtain the command JB couldnt to be a big league pitcher.
  21. I don’t care about prospect rankings I’ll be happy if either becomes a regular starter in the bigs. One disconcerting thing is Festa seems similar to Balazovic to me. Big guys with live arms that dominated the low minors and started to show some red flags at AA. I certainly hope his outcome is better.
  22. Apparently the bankruptcy court approved all the deals including the Twins. I can’t find much specific info other than it was for slightly less money than last year and the agreement included strict confidentiality clauses which I found interesting. Does anyone have more / better info on this?
  23. It’s not news that the Twins may be taking intangibles into account. It’s been a part of scouting players forever - called “makeup” by scouts. At the end of the day give me talent - Rocco gets paid to take care of the rest.
  24. One of the joys of watching the club last year was Castro. Too many times defensive flexibility means below average at 3 different spots. Willi was competent wherever he played and was really effective on the bases. Really contributed in a bunch of different ways.
