  1. Realistically LKs best chance to become an acceptable fielder would be 2b or left field. His speed would be best utilized in LF and his arm minimized there as well. He needs to get the reps there asap. He is about the last guy on this team you want moving around. I love the guy from an offensive standpoint- the OBP, baserunning and the hustle. This club needs a guy or two like this.
  2. Well done Gregg. I lost my Dad last December and he was battling dementia. I discovered something very interesting. Sometimes when I called him he would be completely incoherent but if I mentioned the Twins he would snap out of it and become completely lucid. My Grandpa passed his love of baseball to my Dad, my Dad to me and now me to my son. Your beautiful story resonates with me deeply.
  3. Here is the absurd part. When asked why they don’t play Keaschall in LF Shelton said they didn’t want to mess with Larnach. So now we are catering to a 30 year old journeyman OF who isn’t good in the field over a good young hitter struggling to find a home in the field? This has the old Falvey I’m smarter than anyone else in the room written all over it. Apparently Zoll has the same problem.
  4. Crazy. I’ve been willing to give Zoll a chance in hopes that he is different than Falvey. He needs to be gone.
  5. I also think the Twins staff helped Lopez some and Joe Ryan a bunch.
  6. Assuming 82 wins are required to make the playoffs, the Twins have to go 22-14 or better the rest of the way.
  7. Both matter. It’s been studied many times and there is a strong correlation between payroll and winning. Of course using that payroll most effectively is really important as we’ve seen with our recent free agent catchers. More important than either of these factors is drafting and developing good players. This is kind of a triple whammy against the Twins. Their payroll has wavered between average and low, they have spent it pretty poorly and are not particularly good at drafting and developing players.
  8. I think this comes down to expectations. Forget about the old Bailey and view him as experienced pitching depth. His arb number will be reasonable so it would be unwise to not bring him back. He could be the long man in the pen and make spot starts. It wouldn’t be long and they would need him to be the fifth starter due to injury or ineffectiveness.
  9. TK devised his own manual system based on gaining a base or losing a base. I will certainly get the details wrong but for every 90 feet gained you earned a point. If you singled and the man on first went to third, you got 3 points - one for you and 2 for the guy you advanced. Likewise grounding into a force play cost you a point. He applied the same logic to fielding. For example if you threw to the wrong base and a runner advanced one base you lost a point or if you made an elite play and saved a base you would get a point for the fielding play. Anyway you get the idea, it wouldn’t take long and you could see rankings for from the cumulative score.
  10. Of all the things that concern me in my baseball life, a Josh Donaldsons opinion would slide in at #4356 right behind I don’t like that you can only get yellow mustard, not brown, for my hot dog at Target Field.
  11. I believe we are in need of Schrödingers Cat to solve your dilemma.
  12. Answer is no. Given the family history he has much more heavy lifting to do. He does seem interested so that is a plus…….I think. Unless he is telling Zoll what they are doing personnel wise.
  13. His hitting has been getting better ever so slightly year over year. Thats always a good sign. My late father would say about Brooks “he doesn’t get HIS pitch to hit”. Not very analytical on the surface but guys that make a lot of contact have to be good at getting their best pitch because if they don’t there will be way too much soft contact. He’s a perfectly acceptable third baseman- not a lot of spectacular plays but he turns balls that should be outs into outs reliably and there is value in that. If Brooks is your ceiling you aren’t winning any championships but if he is your floor you have a good team.
  14. Whew. One less dead horse around these parts.
  15. The Twins created this problem twice over. Rostering Outman in their never ending quest to raise the floor was the first problem. Secondly, and I’m not going to beat this dead horse, choosing to “go for it” pretty much guaranteed the younger upside players were going to be delayed. Unfortunately even if they fall out of “contention” they will get nothing from Bell, Jeffers, Larnach, etc.
  16. It’s a mutual option which usually don’t end up happening.
  17. Nailed it. A friends uncle was famous for his malaprops. He would say “ you’ve buttered your bread now lay in it”. The Twins buttered their bread let’s hope Ryan takes us somewhere.
  18. You might be right about Lee but Buck gets it like crazy. I don’t pay attention to people that think one at bat or one game means anything. There is an old baseball saying that any player can be anything (good or bad) for forty games and I think there is a lot of truth there
  19. Respectfully as I perceive him to be your favorite player I think Buck and Lee get similar scrutiny. Being high draft picks almost guarantees it. Jenkins will receive the same treatment as soon as he is in the bigs and struggles. I think articles that are hyperbolic about his Royce’s upside create some of this. It’s impossible for him to live up to it and I cringe every time another writer does it. He is doing better on pitches on the outer half - hopefully he can maintain the patience to lay off or go the other way enough to get pitchers to come back inside. As far as people wanting him to fail I doubt it, maybe a few. I guess I can only speak for me and I want every Twin player to succeed which is also not incompatible with observing things they do well or not well.
  20. I get your point but I still would push back on the premise. This is who Joe is - most of the posters on Twins Daily know the discrepancy between his first and second hand performances so the FO certainly should and act accordingly. If they can’t manage that dynamic it’s on them.
