  1. I think this is correct and makes the comp pick not that appealing (to me anyway).
  2. The Twins are in a great spot. They can hold out for excellent value. If nobody offers up appropriate value don’t trade him.
  3. Maybe but if he gets some command back he can be useful. The bar to clear with this bullpen is not high.
  4. This was inevitable. Pitchers just aren’t going to walk him when he doesn’t really pose a power threat. I’m surprised it took this long for pitchers to just start filling the zone. I would expect that he stabilizes and he will end up being a useful platoon guy.
  5. His splitter, which was so effective last year, was not good this year. Overall, he never worked with much margin for error and it seems like he lost some command of his pitches which was enough to get him in trouble. Considering some of the guys they are bringing in to pitch, I think the Twins screwed this up.
  6. Great baserunning by the Twins this inning. Don’t say that too often.
  7. Agreed and when a farm system graduates a bunch of guys to the bigs in a short time frame it’s always going to be depleted for a while. Same thing will happen again when / if Culpepper/ Jenkins / Em Rod graduate.
  8. Plus Pressly, May and Gibson. There is a narrative that Falvey inherited this huge mess. The farm was depleted but the mlb lineup was largely in place.
  9. Adam’s might want to quit throwing them right down the middle.
  10. Fundy is something. He starts walking off the mound on a ball four that is a foot outside.
  11. We are ok. It would be good for us to catch a batted ball occasionally.
  12. The Twins have missed like 5 plays tonight. So frustrating.
  13. Keaschall is athletic but makes so many bungled plays.
  14. Ok. Can we play clean for the rest of the game and let Joe keep bullpen participation to a minimum?
  15. Updating this list. Unfortunately it will be shorter. Hat tip to Brooks Lee for steady improvement. Also Clemens is showing he can be a good bench guy going forward. Taj is electric and a pleasant surprise. Honorable mention to Larnach and Jeffers who would be on the list if not on a different list.
  16. Really wish Buck would have went on the IL when he got hurt. They need him on the grass
  17. Joe got 5 outs that inning. Pretty good 😀
  18. In economics there is a theory called Opportunity Cost. It simply means what is the cost of making one choice over another. It’s usually measured in money but it’s apt for trades as well. I view both the Polanco and Berrios trades as likely sub par or inefficient in economic terms. The Opportunity cost of both trades is what could we have gotten in trade instead of what we received. Both players had value at the time of the trades. Im assuming the Twins had other offers for both players. If this is true its seems likely they didn’t pick the best option in either trade. Of course we don’t know what the other options were so I am guessing. In both cases it doesn’t matter how well Polanco or Berrios played after the trade; their value was what it was at the time of the trade. How they played after the trade is unrelated to their value on trade day. Trading either player was not a bad thing. It’s just likely the Twins didn’t get the best returns possible.
  19. I believe we are seeing the results (in part) of two of Falveys I’m the Smartest Guy in the Room theories. First, that slow, bad defenders that could hit was a market inefficiency. Turns out having good athletes that can run and field as well as hit are desirable. Second, that they skimp on starting pitching draft capital by drafting a bunch of late round college guys and use their magic powers to make them good big leaguers. Turns out that pitchers taken in the early rounds are usually better. Who knew? To be fair, Falvey did eventually go away from these two strategies but it took five or so years. We are living with that 5 year period where we didn’t really add talent to the organization. One reason I believe we have to trade Ryan and Jeffers is because this org needs a talent infusion. I know we have some good prospects but if you consider a reasonable attrition rate we don’t have enough. We literally need to upgrade every position except CF. Pitching wise our rotation is in decent shape if they stay healthy but the bullpen is in need of an overhaul and there is no pitching left in the upper minors - none. And if EmRod / Culpepper/ Jenkins fail, we will be in for a grim period of time.
  20. When the team is as flawed as the Twins are, there are going to be stretches like this. There will be some good weeks as well so I will still be watching but the reality is there is going to be some bleak stretches.
