Regarding the ROY draft pick compensation I believe it is one compensatory picks after the first round. I think I also read the player is awarded an extra year of service time. This might be crazy but I think I would rather have the extra year of his play compared to a comp pick.

Bingo. The most important thing is his development and nothing else is even close. It’s not clear that is right now and with only two months to go I almost feel it would be better to leave him down there so he can play during the work stoppage. Plus, they need to give EmRod an extended look when he gets healthy.

Doesn’t matter to me what they do between now and the deadline-I’m selling. I would trade Jeffers and Bell for the best offer. I would trade Larnach, Wallner, Mendez and Gonzalez for any reasonable offer. I would trade Ryan for good value. The pieces are here we need another year and a bullpen.

Twins Trade Deadline Buying Guide: Dream Scenarios
Linus replied to Lucas Seehafer PT's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I like the Weaver idea as he’s not a rental and the bullpen problem is going to need some outside solutions. I am not willing to trade any upper level prospects for this club with two exceptions. G Gonzalez and Mendez would be available for good relievers. I’m done with slow guys that can’t field- 61 replies

There is much consternation over trading Joe as some deem it too risky to trade his proven performance for prospects. There is risk in not trading him at maximum value. He’s had years where he has faded down the stretch and/or gotten hurt. I’m not implying yesterday’s game means anything but it is a good reminder.

One reason I’m reluctant to “go for it” is I don’t deem the Twins farm system to be as strong as some people. They have depth in the form of a bunch of FV 40-45 prospects which don’t usually translate into difference makers in the bigs. They have one elite prospect in Jenkins (I’m leaving Lackey out of this discussion because he can’t be traded). I consider Culpepper and Houston to be good prospects and EmRod a total wild card. After that it gets iffy and highly volatile. Is Kyle DeBarge or Winokur going to be highly valued in a trade scenario? I doubt it, maybe Tait moves the needle for some team but adding a really good pitcher to this team is going to cost one of their top four which is why I think it’s folly. They need to be adding prospects with a ceiling not trading them away.

He hasn’t played a professional game and people are projecting where he is and will be or will make the majors. It’s all just meaningless speculation but I guess if that floats peoples boats then go for it. I’m really glad they got him but feel no need to worry about this stuff. Let the guy play and we will see how it goes.

Correct. He’s short, slow and a poor fielder. He has to hit…….a lot. If some other team values him I would trade him in a heartbeat and I’m usually the guy wanting to keep prospects.

All this and he isn’t even signed nor has he seen a professional pitch. Prospects are fun but people get really goofy about it.

This. The whole idea is pointless without some reasonable estimate of the cost.

This is what drives me nuts about the Twins baserunning. If you are down 4 runs you need a big inning so there is no point in either Bell or Lee taking any chances because two more guys behind them still have to score. There are times to be aggressive and times to play it safe which seems to be lost on most of the Twins players. I partly blame the Twins “oh we are going to be aggressive on the bases philosophy” because they have a bunch of guys that have no clue. Lee has made a crap ton of outs on the bases in the last several weeks. What boggles my mind is this is Legion ball levels of sophistication.

He definitely has the highest ceiling and should be a plus defender but I’m fearful there is way too much swing and miss in his game to succeed in the bigs. I would like to find out however.

I’m far less concerned about the younger guys than Gonzalez, EmRod and Roden. If I had to bet my pension I would say they all three end up being AAAA players.

I’ve given up objecting to throw away statements used in these pieces that are plainly inaccurate. Degrades the credibility of the writing but oh well. I think your assessment is spot on.

It was fun to watch Ober do his thing - old time pitching. Keaschall looks good in the outfield as he just lets his athleticism take over compared to second base. His OBP is crazy in the last month. Royce looks really good at first - he’s got some range and his play with pitchers covering is excellent. With more time his footwork around the bag should get even better. I am a little worried about the bat. He hit so much better after coming back up but anything spinning is giving him trouble again. My only complaint: Lee has to stop with the stolen base attempts. Aggressive baserunning is a speedier guy like Keaschall going first to third allowing the trail runner to advance to second. It does not include slow runners attempting to do things they cannot do.

Prospects are suspects until they’re not but I like the upgrade in athleticism with this group of prospects. Will be interesting to see who makes it and who doesn’t.

A Season-Defining Week Awaits the Twins
Linus replied to Sam Caulder's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
To me it doesn’t matter substantially whether they go 10-6 or 6-10. This club is not ready to make a serious run so I would not spend precious prospect capital trying to win now unless it solves a problem for several more years. One exception I would make is attaching a non-elite prospect to Bell or Larnach to get a higher quality player in return.- 7 replies
