  1. You can slice it and dice it anyway you want. It doesn’t do a thing to make up for a lack of talent in the bullpen.
  2. There is no way Jeffers is signing an extension when he is this close to free agency. Not happening.
  3. This might have merit in the minors as a way to get relievers more innings. It has no place in the big leagues and doesn’t prepare them to be able to pitch on back to back days which is a necessity. The other thing that is stupid about the premise is that this secret strategy turns these AAAA pitchers into good big leaguers. With the exception of Rojas all these “bulk” guys wouldn’t be in a good bullpen.
  4. Funderburk predictably wild. I would keep SWR over Funday every day of the week.
  5. This is the most succinct summation of my feelings towards TV baseball coverage.
  6. These things usually work themselves out. First, Royce has to hit successfully in AAA then in the bigs. If this happens Lee can play second. Or maybe someone gets hurt to open a spot or maybe Lee regresses with the bat. Having two good hitting options at third would be a nice problem. We are not there yet.
  7. I would not make that trade. Not because I’m against trading Royce but those picks don’t move the needle for me. I would take the chance that Royce “finds it” rather than a pick that likely won’t amount to much.
  8. My view is the first option should be to trade Ryan at the deadline. And I’m not saying this based on money - I’m saying this because the Twins need a talent injection and trading Ryan is the most powerful way to do it. Here is a list of positions where the Twins don’t need an upgrade: CF. We have some promising prospects but not all are going to make it meaning we will still be short of the talent level required to be a top team. I referenced this as the first option because we have a choice. If we don’t get close to mlb talent of high ceiling in return then we simply don’t do it. We wait until the off season or next deadline or enjoy his pitching and give him the qualifying offer (if there is such a thing going forward). Bottom line is the right move could be trading Joe or hanging on to Joe depending on the return.
  9. Will be interesting to see the response from the players association. In the past, any proposed cap was DOA.
  10. I get it but I’m not worried about that right now. I think Rojas has the potential to be one of our better pitchers and don’t need to see him sidelined for 18 months with TJ.
  11. The most important aspect here is Rojas being hurt. Hopefully this isn’t serious but elbow pain is always scary. I think he was developing into a useful pitcher.
  12. I’m glad that Lee is improving with the bat. But right now he’s basically league average which is improvement but really illustrates where he was before.
  13. I think it proves what’s been true for 150 years: starting pitching is the most important factor in winning games. I have no idea what Falvey would have done but Zoll seems a bit more aggressive and decisive in his roster moves. I also like the way Shelton has managed the bullpen. The lineup is not great but they are playing better defense and they don’t rely on one or two guys to get the job done. Larnach and Martin stepping up gives them a legit outfield-maybe somehow the infield can do the same. I still think my 75 win projection is going to be accurate but I find myself watching every night - it’s been enjoyable.
  14. Gomez looks like he throws harder than he does.
  15. Buck had so much of a better jump on that compared to Keaschall. Almost ran him down
  16. Outman has no chance against a competent pitcher.
  17. Not sure I’ve seen that before and I’ve been watching baseball for 60 years.
  18. Can I just say that I may not be able to make it through the season listening to these Carshield commercials.
  19. If Royce hits in the show they will find a spot for him. I think the stink about changing positions is overblown. Royce wears his heart on his sleeve and that comes back to bite him sometimes. I’m more concerned about his comments that deflect responsibility for his poor performance. Anyway I hope he figures things out - the Twins need bats.
  20. Especially if Taj roughly maintains his current level of performance.
  21. This all depends on lots of different factors. If the Twins are legitimately in the playoff hunt I wouldn’t be opposed to keeping everyone. Playoff chances aren’t to be taken lightly. But, if they end up trending towards 75 wins the for sale sign goes out. Doesn’t mean I’m moving all of them but if there is good value I wouldn’t trade Ryan and Jeffers for sure. If the offer isn’t good, there is value in keeping Ryan too or trading him later. I guess my point is the correct decision could be any of the above depending on circumstances.
  22. My bad. I meant to type Jeffers is a free agent at the end of this year. After I re - read your post I see you were referring to Ryan. Ignore me.
