    I believe #3 is correct. Falvey wanted a safety net in Jackson while he waited for an opportunity. Caratini was his opportunity. If they truly are trying to win they will hold on to Jefferson as long as they hold on to Ryan. Mind you this is not a plan I endorse. Two things that won’t happen in my opinion are a Jefferson extension and Jefferson getting much run at DH or any at first. They’ve made their decisions in those two spots. I don’t think anyone knows what next moves will be including Falvey. He will wait until he sees an opportunity to raise the floor and get good value.

    I think you have summarized the challenges accurately. I have no answers either and the couple ideas I have for increased parity come largely at the expense of the players which I don’t like. One idea is that there should be one draft that encompasses the whole world. This would allow lower level clubs to be able to draft an Ohtani. It would also stop millions from being spent on 16 years in a corrupt system in Latin America. Perhaps in exchange for this the MLB minimum could be raised. You could start penalizing teams that exceed salary thresholds with withholding of draft picks. Ideally, all TV revenue should be divided equally but I don’t see that happening. At a minimum deferred money in contracts needs to be regulated. Lastly, if things get desperate enough the bottom 22-24 teams could threaten to not play the top 6 or 8 teams until the system is fixed. Let the Yankees and the Dodgers play 30 times a year and see how long people stay interested.

    At the time of acquisition it was reported to be $1.8. So I don’t know and guess I don’t really care.

    I wouldn’t think they would dfa Jackson unless they think his $1.8 million contract will make everyone pass. But then why would you give that guy almost 2 mil and not get a relief pitcher instead?

    I have no idea what this means. It can’t be three catchers but I’ve given up trying to figure out Falvey so who knows. Logic would dictate Jeffers is on the move but you would think the trade would come first unless there is already a deal for Jeffers in place.

    Along with Wagaman and Bell. I think those four guys could cover it and we would have our bench complete 😀

    I think conventional thinking used to be greatest value was obtained during an off season where all teams could theoretically be buyers. With the expanded playoffs I wonder if that’s true. Perhaps the Twins figure they can get just as much at the deadline for Ryan as they could now. This gives them the bonus of having the chance to see if the club has success to start the year. I guess I’m just trying to make sense of their plan.

    This is kind of a weird article. We are giving props to the Twins because they used high draft picks to construct a lineup that is poor offensively, poor in the field and slow as well? Sometimes we get way too far into the weeds on some of this stuff. Take a step back and use actual performance and results to determine how effective the club has been in any given area.

    I’ve always thought FO types had a vision or plan for roster construction. I’m not sure Falvey does or one he adheres to anyway. I think he tries to raise the floor and get incremental improvements from the bottom of the roster which allows him to achieve “value” but has no plan to raise the ceiling of the roster. Rather he seems content to wait for one of his core players to break out and raise the the ceiling without spending money or prospects. In other words he doesn’t seem to adhere to an over arching plan of “I’m going to solve first base by trading for a good player or signing an athletic bat for the outfield rather he hangs around and when a value opportunity arises he makes the deal regardless whether the pieces fit together or not.

    I’m not. There is no chance the Twins sign him to an extension. Get great value for him right now.

    I’m not crazy about this. If the Twins give up valuable assets they need to acquire a stud bat or a legit SS. We’ve got guys to play second and third.

    I love Joe Ryan but the Twins need to trade him now. Call up San Fran and get Eldridge and a couple prospects. Start making meaningful moves that add good players to our lineup. In no way would I give Joe $130 or whatever he is going to get for his age 30-35 seasons.

    I actually wanted to add last off season by trading from our farm to obtain an impact bat or two. With better offense I thought they could be a really good club thru 27. Alas they didn’t but I get the deadline strategy. They believe they can develop these pieces so why not cash them in and add back to the farm. I understand the Varland trade - he’s a solid reliever but if you can get a starter and a bat for him you do that every time. What doesn’t make sense to me is to make these moves and then say you are going to try and contend in 26. I do believe they will rebuild the bullpen but I don’t think they can do it in one year.

    Or they are just different than yours. one could say your takes are unrealistically optimistic but the bottom line is we all get to have our opinions so I’m good with that Without characterizing as less meaningful opinions different than my own.

    I’m always wary when they start pulling out the “intangibles” card. He has to hit, plain and simple. If he doesn’t there isn’t enough rah-rah to make a difference.

    Preach. The point of the farm system is to produce impactful major leaguers.

    And while I have no keen insight into the labor / lockout situation that 9 new clubs cancelled their RSN options tells me they will be more in the Twins boat. This means there will be a bunch of clubs motivated to gain some ground in a new CBA making it more likely that more of the season is sacrificed which in turns makes Ryan’s final contract year FAR less valuable in the trade market.

    I hope you are right and that the FO saying they want to build around them is lip service and he is dealt in the next month. The upside of keeping him is minimal and the upside of trading him is huge.

    The chicken little and hari Kari comments are red herrings. I’m merely pointing out that for the Twins to have success this year nearly all the question marks will have to break their way. Can it happen? Sure, there have been several worst to first seasons by Teams including the Twins. Is it likely? Nope. But that is my opinion and we all get to choose what we will expect. Flawed teams are far more likely to suffer from their flaws than end up twitch that magical season.
