  1. Yep. My only hope is he will hold players to a higher standard relative to fundamentals
  2. Changes on the margin will not make this team competitive. If they are going to try next year (which I don’t think is likely) they would have to trade Ryan and successfully add two - three athletic impact bats, sign multiple free agent relievers and get a proven MLB SS. In other words, this is a fools errand.
  3. I think there is a real possibility that the Pohlads promised the new minority partners an immediate windfall in 26 and 27 by tanking payroll. The minority owners paid over market price for their shares which tells me there had to be some sort of agreement similar to this. It also lines up as a “baseball rebuild” providing cover
  4. There is no point in signing Hoskinsif they are going to try, they need a much bigger upgrade at 1st. If they aren’t going to try you don’t need him.
  5. I think the Illusion of Hope is thinking the current team, with some minor moves this off-season, has any chance to compete next year.
  6. Jeff Hoffman - we didn’t need him.
  7. Here is a different way to look at it. If we want a team that can advance in the playoffs we need improvement from every position except CF and catcher. Can some of that improvement come from current players? Maybe but that was the plan the last couple years and we know how that worked out. 7 spots to improve is a lot.
  8. There are a lot of things posted about this strategy or that strategy for small and mid market teams. Obviously small - mid market teams aren’t doing it through free agency. After that, I believe the most important thing differentiating these teams are the person(s) executing the strategy. All FO are aware of what the Rays do, or Cleveland or the Brewers. There is no secret sauce. If you are lucky enough to have a shrewd FO making good decisions you will find a way. IMO we do not have that.
  9. Mookie Betts is a really good SS for a guy that was an outfielder. Crazy athlete.
  10. There is one minute of my life I’ll never get back.
  11. You have to keep him but I think we should all get over the notion that he is some sort of star in the making. I hope that he can become a consistently above average big leaguer with the bat and in the field.
  12. I too would like a manager with prior experience. Specifically I want someone with a strong background in fundamental baseball. The Twins could improve by 6-8 games next year by executing basic plays reliably.
  13. Polanco looking good.
  14. Whatever the FO does, just don’t straddle the middle. Blow it up or make the moves necessary to strongly compete in 26 That would require money spent on free agents and a couple of shrewd trades so not sure how likely that is.
  15. Spot on. If they are going to compete next year one way to do it is to turn Ryan into a good bat or two. The pitching staff could likely survive it and this lineup needs a makeover.
  16. I’m glad he pitched better after the break. He’s earned a spot in the pen next year. I remain skeptical that this level of performance is the new Funderburk.
  17. This. The last credible estimate of Twins profitability came from Forbes who reported the Twins made $19 million in 2023.
  18. Not dumb at all - he could be. The rub is the new team would have to be willing to pay his arbitration number and give you something back in return. Which is the unlikely part.
  19. He is 24 so I think if that was possible it would have been done by now. Pitchers are a different animal because they have set deliveries and are training a kinetic chain to obtain higher velocity. Infielders make a variety of throws.
  20. Here is the problem: they can keep all their guys, sign a marginal free agent or two and try to build a bullpen on the fly. And win 78 games in 26 and watch the lockout in 27 at which point López, Ryan, Ober and Jeffers are all gone. Or you can trade them for players that, combined with current prospects, can open a legitimate window of contention in 28 and beyond. Is this the scenario I wanted? Nope. But they made their bed at the trade deadline (I assume knowingly).
  21. I don’t think he has surplus trade value at a $5 million arb number. So if you tender him with the idea of trading him you are taking a risk that you will have to keep him. You could tender him if you want him as a placeholder for 26 waiting for EmRod or Jenkins but that doesn’t improve the team.
  22. Some Twins like defense on that play.
  23. He doesn’t have the arm or the range to be a big league plus SS. In fact he needs to hit substantially better next year to stick in the bigs over the long run.
  24. To say Rocco wasnt the problem is nonsensical. You could say he wasn’t the only problem and I would say Falvey is a bigger problem but there is a mountain of evidence that most of his teams underperformed. The lack of basic fundamentals in the field and on the bases was inexcusable (and very damning on the minor league system) but Rocco made out the lineups and kept playing guys that constantly made mistakes.
  25. Mine would have been Buck and then Ryan and then an empty ballot for the rest.
