    It’s pretty much Martin and Wallner that botch the challenges, correct?

    Unless you are getting some free agent years I don’t think these deals are right for the Twins. The cost certainty is nice but IMO not worth the risk the player gets hurt or doesn’t perform. If these deals go bad it hurts the Twins relatively more because of the tighter payroll.

    The stuff has been there, it’s always been about the control. There has been a marked change in that area and if it continues the Twins have a gold mine. I’m sure Jax will bounce back but if they are both performing at a high level you take Bradley every time. As others have noted Odorizzi was a good deal as well. The Delmon deal was Bill Smith so Falvey doesn’t own that one.

    I’m excited we have legitimate prospects at AAA. I will be really excited if they perform in the big leagues. It’s a big jump and not all of these guys will make it but there is only one way to find out so let’s go.

    The interesting thing is these same players that are deficient defensively are not very good offensively either. A lot of this is the result of Falveys drafting strategy early in his tenure. They seemed to seek out the best bat they could find without regard for defense or speed. Now when you look at our lineup there are just a lot of slow, poor defenders who never developed into difference makings bats either.

    Why not? They’ve had a hole at first base for a long time without any creative solutions.

    The weird roster construction has been discussed a lot. One specific aspect that drives me nuts is the Kody Clemens usage. The guy is a fringe player at best and yet the Twins seem to view him as some staple in their lineup plan. The Twins have golden opportunities to revamp the lineup at first base, DH and left field and have done nothing. I really wish I knew how much influence Zoll had in this past offseason. If he was on board with this then I want him gone as much as Falvey

    As my Dad used to say “he doesn’t get his pitch to hit”. It seems like his swing decisions are poor and he ends up hitting pitchers pitches. Guys not hitting something that isn’t a fastball has been a career killer since old Abner put 108 stitches in the horsehide.

    I think Ober should go old school and pitch to contact. Start throwing a sinker instead of the four seam, use the change up a lot and maybe a cutter. I realize this strategy doesn’t fit well with the Twins infield defense but this old approach might be different enough to buy him some leeway.

    I think I will add SWR to the list. Classic Sim yesterday- he used all his pitches got into a couple of tough spots but competed hard on the mound. Dude is not afraid.

    This game was a good example of what was feared for this team. We got a good start, the lineup was anemic and the bullpen finally caved. This new running philosophy is stupid. These guys are sleds and bad baserunners. Let Buck, Keaschall and Martin run - the rest of the tractors need to stay in the barn.

    As pointed out above, this is a baseball issue not just the Twins. If pitchers are to go 7 plus innings they need to initiate soft contact early in the count. This means fewer strikeouts and more balls in play which goes against current dogma. There is no way to go deep in games when you need 80 pitches to get thru 4 or 5 innings. I actually think it would be interesting if Ober tried the old school pitch to contact theory. He’s got the good change up - might be better than trying to live up in the zone throwing 89.

    It’s early. Pitch counts are going to be limited so it’s really hard to talk about efficiency at this point.
