    I know for sure his only possible role is DH. If they trade Bell I suppose you could let him DH the rest of the year but he is likely another player to add to the Falvey all bat - no glove pile. In other words there are several other players I would rather see getting mlb at bats.

    I get your point. I’m not worried about it. it can be done if they want to make it happen. If they don’t then that’s on them.

    Not a problem. Roden should be up now and EmRod isn’t even healthy yet - he can come up after the trade deadline. Same with Mendez and there certainly will be an injury between now and September.

    Too early to judge. There is a scenario where it works out as Rojas has potential. I am not worried about having too many left handed hitting outfielders. Jenkins is as sure a thing as you can get with a prospect. But the rest of the group (Em Rod, Roden, Mendez) are hardly sure things. Would not surprise me at all that one or none end up being a bona fide big leaguer. If we get lucky and end up with a couple they can be traded.

    The question really is what CAN they do about the bullpen? The farm system is pretty much tapped out and they elected to not spend money last winter so your last avenue is trades. I would be really hesitant to trade credible prospects to try and shore up this bullpen this year. One arm doesn’t solve anything- you probably need 3-4 and that would be a tough one to pull off, especially if you are looking for some team control.

    This. People act like there is a secret strategy that if we only discovered will lead us to the World Series. It comes down to making good decisions. Teams will be offering trade packages for Jeffers and Ryan. Are they the right ones? Are they enough? There are scenarios where I would and would not trade Ryan. There is no absolute ahead of time as it depends on the deal at that time. Is Zoll up to the challenge? We will find out. Whatever they do, they need to do it with the intent of creating a 5 year window of winning teams, which could be at odds with trying to squeak into the playoffs this year.

    I agree with this. Joe is a damn fine pitcher but there is a level of pitcher above him.

    I recall that Hardy got hurt a couple times and Gardy got irritated to the point that he thought Hardy was a china doll. Gardy had a lot of influence on Bill Smith to the detriment of the club usually as I’m pretty sure it was Gardy pushing to get rid of Hardy.

    They are not even using him for late game defensive substitutions. The thing is, he is not a young player anymore. He just doesn’t contribute enough to be a guy you build around.
