  1. I’m hopeful for Royce but concerned. I blew my knee out and it affects your whole lower body. Your strength is severely diminished while recovering and a slow process to get it back. He seems to be back health wise. His defense is better and he is running better. The bat will be the determining factor - what he’s doing now will not cut it. He has to hit better to have a meaningful career. As far as his odd quotes he strikes me a little like a guy that was born on third base and thought he hit a triple.
  2. The FO chose to run back the same crew as they were in or entering their primes. It was a defensible but risky move. None of the players took a step forward, a couple treaded water and several outright flopped. The reason why it was risky is what we see now: a roster with so many holes to fill that they realistically have to rebuild whether they want to or not. I sometimes feel like Falvey is only comfortable making decisions when the sample size is large enough to put him at ease. Many times the horse is out of the barn by that point. And as @RiverBrian has pointed out, the lack of development hindered their available options. So now we wait for the next wave of prospects and hope they somehow are better than the last group.
  3. I don’t disagree about the method of construction. I just don’t see it happening in one off season even if the goal is “passable”. Mostly because I don’t have much faith in the FO. But I’m more than okay with a difference of opinion.
  4. Me too. It took them years to develop the bullpen they just blew up. There is nothing in their track record that suggests they could do it one off season.
  5. This is a good exploration of the current situation. However after reading it I don’t get a ray of hope rather a confirmation of how far away we are from contention. “If everything goes perfectly” is not a comforting strategy.
  6. Interesting conversation. What’s really a head scratcher is that not that long ago the higher paid free agents were veterans over the age of 30. At the time of the last CBA Clark Griffith had an interesting thought experiment (he knew it wouldn’t ever happen). What would the league look like if every player received immediate free agency but could only sign one year contracts? This would most accurately reflect the true value of players. Generally 25 - 27 year old studs would be getting the big money but many arbitration eligible players would get less. Trevor Larnach is going to get $5 million next year; the Twins can pay him or cut him. My guess is his value on the open market is $3 million or 40% less than arbitration.
  7. So the premise is the Twins will fix something that the Rays couldn’t? Not sure I like the odds on that one.
  8. I know is not a hot take but TK had it right. You don’t know what you have in a hitter (good or bad) until they have 1000-1500 at bats. So until then nobody knows what Keaschall will be.
  9. So this lineup is deficient in scoring runs, fielding and baserunning. Yet many people want all of these players to return. I don’t get it.
  10. Of course. One of the great things about baseball is you see things you’ve “never” seen before only to find out somebody did it three times in 1958.
  11. Here, here. Run Buck Run!
  12. Thanks for the info. I’m old enough to remember all of those but didn’t which might relate to being old enough to remember all of those. Seriously Thats is more instances than I would have guessed.
  13. I don’t like our FO and I will say they handled that situation perfectly. Let him walk and get the comp pick. What’s really clear is that Joe Ryan has no future in a front office
  14. This is really a stretch. With the bat he has made improvements…..to average He’s a horrible baserunner and below average fielder. His jumps are poor as are his routes. His throwing arm is below average. I’m not suggesting he should be released but he has a crap ton to prove.
  15. To me there are two paths: try to compete in 2026, which would clearly require a payroll north of $120 million, or they regroup for 2028 as I believe 2027 will be largely lost. I believed they could retool and compete in 2026 by trading expiring contracts and maybe Larnach. Since they went way beyond that I’m assuming they are not planning on competing in 2026. That means there is no point in hanging onto López and Ryan. Get a couple near MLB ready bats. If this is the plan payroll will be well below $100 million. I also wouldn’t be surprised if they sold the minority partners on a really low payroll for 2026 which allows all involved to suck $50 million or more in profits in 2026.
  16. If he is not 100% healthy I would shut him down so he can heal up and have a regular off season of training.
  17. Rest assured if we had baserunners they would have made the mistakes…..
  18. I see to get a stolen base Larnachs only had to be thrown attempting to steal and get picked off. Welcome to the Twins aggressive running game.
  19. Agreed but their past suggests that won’t happen. So to sum my thoughts, there is a way to build a good pen next year but they would have to adopt your thoughts to do it and I don’t think they have your phone number 😀
  20. This is a tough one because I don’t think they will be good next year and labor strife always puts off the fans. It’s going to have to be something non- baseball related like turning Target Field into the worlds largest bar with cheap beer and drinks.
  21. As far as how close to 14 I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Would you go with Ohl / Adams / Raya over a retread for the last spot or two? I’m not sure as I have serious doubts about them but at least there is a chance for improvement. Your observation about the 6th spot is a good one. I like it better than my original idea - gets one more good arm in the pen. My question is would this FO ever do something like this?
