  1. I would rather see Royce hitting doubles to right / center. We know he can yank a cookie to left.
  2. Twins defense and bad Bosox running wins the game. Hat tip to Martin with his good catch in a critical situation and Larnach / Kriedler / Caratini for getting the critical out at the plate.
  3. He should be called up when his development indicates he is ready. When he comes up he absolutely has to play SS. If he can’t cut it at SS the Twins have a big problem. I hope Houston hits enough to be in the bigs but that is a very big if. For these reasons KC is the most important prospect the Twins have.
  4. Unfortunately (in my opinion) he is another Falvey special. A bat only guy who, if he hits well enough, should be a DH. I always hope for the best for the Twins but this is not a guy I would be counting on.
  5. The real question with Lee is not what position he will play. The real question is will he ever be a good enough hitter to be a mlb caliber starter. He has to hit better or he will become a utility guy.
  6. I was never a Falvey fan and I’m glad he is gone. However, he may end up being the hero with his moves at last years trade deadline. Taj is electric and if he refines his command a little can be an elite starter. Same with Abel and even Rojas. They need one more bat to emerge and this could get interesting.
  7. Buck now has 10 and 5 rights so he can veto any trade (I believe don’t know if there is fine print with that rule).
  8. I agree with this. Maybe a simpler way to assess an offense is what percentage of the time do they score 3 or less runs (pick whatever number you feel assured a loss). Essentially how many times do we lose games because the offense doesn’t show up. I think this is where the Twins are suspect. Of course I’m not going to do the research so I will just assume I am correct😀
  9. Agree that it is too early. I think it’s a small chance they grab a wildcard but let’s at least give it our best until the deadline. I think people need to be real about expected returns. Buck, Ryan, and Jeffers are the trade chips that will return something (I’m not including our young starters). The rest of those guys are either untradeable or will net some A ball lottery ticket.
  10. The boys battled. Prielipp has stuff but as we’ve seen with many pitchers command is more important. He will not make it in the bigs without improvement in this area. I find the Lee to third move very interesting. I think it’s his best position but I hope it’s part of a bigger, long term plan. Finally, Buck is a great leader. When GG got his first hit Buck hurries to the dugout steps to congratulate him. C4 was a talker - Buck is a leader (and I can’t wait for him to be back in center).
  11. Back in the day when you suspect a bunt was coming you went hard up and in. Preilipp gave him a prime pitch to bunt.
  12. Nice play on both ends. Runner had a good jump.
  13. MLB is brutal on young players. As we’ve seen they can have immediate success but when the league sees them a few times and the book is out they can struggle mightily. Hence TKs quote about not knowing what you have, good or bad, until they have 1000-1500 at bats. With Royce being hurt so frequently it took him a while to accumulate the at bats. Teams definitely know how to pitch to him now. It’s up to him to adjust. I think it’s time to stop referring to Royce as having a lot of “talent” - I don’t think it’s true rather it’s a byproduct of him being drafted 1/1.
  14. To quote Denny Green, the Twins are who we thought they are. The only reason this topic came up is because most of the rest of the league has stunk. I will say it appears Zoll might be a bit more aggressive in these roster moves compared to Falvey. I’m happy he took action.
  15. They are on a 75 win pace which is what many people expected. I don’t view that as terrible but I don’t see any real difference that would suggest we are “in it”. Run differential is a crude stat. The Twins are streaky in that they will score 11 one game and then 1 and 2 the next two games. Total looks fine but you lost two of three.
  16. There is zero chance Houston sees the big leagues next year. Lee will have to hit a crap ton better to play first base on a contending team. I would bring Culpepper up this year but wait until he hits his stride. Hopefully he would come up and never go back.
  17. It’s difficult to say because AAA numbers are so inflated it’s hard to project what someone might do in the bigs. However a good sign would be if he started mashing fastballs. Being able to hit the heater is the first test any hitter gets. If you can’t do it you’re toast. Defensively he’s cooked. If he does start to hit he will need to DH. He’s getting slower and his jumps and routes to the ball have gotten inexplicably worse. His strong arm is not useful because he is mostly inaccurate. My prediction is Wallner will join the group of bat only players Falvey was in love with early in his tenure.
  18. Unfortunately he will be another black hole with the bat, which we have too many already.
