  1. With all the detailed analytics they have on all their pitchers, they should easily detect inordinate fatigue if it appears. I would let him start because that is where he will benefit the club the most long term. Plus he needs the innings to sharpen his command.
  2. This club is not winning the pennant. By far, the most likely outcome is they don’t make the playoffs. So by all means less pass up a golden opportunity to be able to win the pennant in 2028.
  3. I categorically disagree with this whole piece. The Twins are in this race simply because the AL is a mess. Winning organizations have the courage to make decisions that improve the long term ability to compete by maximizing their trade assets instead of chasing poor odds to get swept out in the first round of the playoffs. Don’t worry though the Twins are likely to follow your plan ensuring more mediocrity for several more years. The idea that the farm system can’t be improved is flat out ridiculous.
  4. There has been lots of speculation about a cap / floor as part of the new CBA. I don’t think that is likely as you only get a floor if the owners get a cap. The players union has fought a cap tooth and nail in prior negotiations so I don’t think it is likely. If it does happen it probably means the 2027 season is screwed.
  5. Just get him signed and let him play. The rest will take care of itself.
  6. I think timing is a big factor here. I view the Twins as a team in transition- one that can be very good in two years and several years after. If they were truly a “win now” club I would advocate to keep Joe even if it meant losing him for not much. However the Twins are not a “win now” club in my view. Any time past this deadline is just wasted value. It sucks but trading him is the right thing to do. And if he gets hurt we are really screwed.
  7. Jeffers is two months from free agency. He is not signing an extension with the Twins. Plus he would absolutely laugh at a 3 year $12 million per offer. He will get way more than that in free agency.
  8. I can understand either path and perhaps their play in the next couple weeks will make it clear. For me, I would sell. Making the wildcard would be great fun but chances are they won’t make it and even if they do it’s just not a club that is going to advance. If they do some shrewd selling at the deadline we could be looking at an up and coming team that has a window of contention for the next several years. My fear is Tom P will mandate going for it at the expense of adding pieces via trade that could push us over the top.
  9. I’m not bullish on making the playoffs. RISP is likely to regress meaning more games where they simply don’t score enough to have a chance. If they suffer any pitching injuries things could get ugly as the pitching depth is tapped out. Having said all that, I really enjoy watching this team and am looking forward to the rest of the season. It will be fascinating to see how they handle the trade deadline.
  10. Correct. One reason I’m cautiously optimistic about Marek Houston is that he is getting some extra base hits meaning pitchers can’t just fill up the zone knowing they can’t get hurt.
  11. Couldn’t agree more. I loved the gray wool road jerseys from the 60s as well. Found an original Killebrew online and it was $400.
  12. Thanks for the update. Thought Lee might grade out a little higher at third and maybe he will with more time there. Not surprised about Larnach - by the time you get to his age you kind of are what you are defensively. Martin is doing better in the field but not enough to offset poor offensive production.
  13. I think you nailed it. Taj has been fantastic and Clemens has been a good “glue” guy. I would add Lewis to the disappointment list
  14. It happens when your go to is hot takes instead of actually digging in and writing about serious baseball.
  15. “One of the deepest farm systems in Major League Baseball” Cody, you need to go to hyperbole therapy. I’m very happy with this pick but the Twins farm system is hardly as you describe.
  16. This. There are so many better ways to spend that money if they choose to. Trade the guy and get value. I like Jeffers as a hitter (not so much as a receiver) but let’s not forget his start to the season is a level he is not likely to sustain.
  17. I believe the reason he is getting time at short is to maximize his asset value. If other teams deem him a legit SS prospect his potential trade value goes up. I don’t have a problem with him playing SS as he has legit SS tools unlike Martin or Q Young.
  18. Please re- read my post. I don’t advocate for this idea but think the Twins might do it. T Pohlad has been clear he wants to win this year. What that looks like at the trade deadline is only known by the FO.
  19. I think there is a very real possibility the Twins decide to go for it. If so, prospects will only be called up as injury replacements. Take K Culpepper for example. The Twins will value Kreisler’s reliable glove at SS more than giving a prospect a chance. To be clear, I don’t agree with this as it’s just another path to mediocrity but I can sure see it happening.
  20. I like Winokur because he is just a really good athlete. It’s always been about the bat with him and probably always will be. He will be a good fielder wherever he ends up but he has to hit.
  21. I’m excited about Houston like everyone else. It’s really fun to watch a good defensive SS. I will not be getting ahead of myself however. He still has to hit in AA, AAA and the bigs so plenty of hurdles left. I will be rooting for him for sure.
  22. I would say no. Martin has had some runway and hasn’t done much with it He is going on 28. it’s hanging onto mediocre players like this that has got the Twins in this position.
