  1. According to AG Funderburk Alcalá and Sands have been told they are making the team. I want to know what kind of pictures Cole Sands has that he has made this club
  2. Absolutely starting pitching. With even a normal year of injuries we are going to see lots of innings going to unproven pitchers.
  3. We definitely need to add starter depth. If this season is going to disappoint it will most likely be due to starting pitching depth. Our current rotation looks fantastic. After that look out.
  4. I think the looming tv problem is going to be chaos for MLB. There are lots of players and agents that seem to think it is business as usual and I think the free agency market is going to to diminish substantially until this stuff gets figured out.
  5. How come our pitchers give up runs because they are working on something but the other teams pitchers get our guys out when they are working on something?
  6. I noticed Julio Tehran is going to opt out. I would snap him up too if he will take a minor league deal.
  7. Regarding left handed hitters not hitting lefties I would refer you to the piece Gleeman wrote for the Athletic. To summarize very few lefties in all of baseball hit left handed pitching. Essentially Rod Carew is the only left handed batter in Twins history that could hit lefties at all and he still had a noticeable drop in OPS. So for me I’m not going to worry about the young lefties ability to hit left handed pitching. They won’t. And it doesn’t make them just a platoon player as they will end up playing 75-80% of the time.
  8. I like Louie. He works fast and throws strikes - baseball needs more pitchers like that. The game moves along and there is something happening. Whether Louie is a big league quality starter is still an open question however. Wishing him the best but he still has to prove he belongs in the rotation.
  9. I hope they follow through with the idea that most of the pen will be expected to go two innings sometimes.
  10. A couple of random thoughts. I have no complaints about not pursuing high dollar free agent pitchers. I think this philosophy is wise over the short and long term. I find it very ironic that they traded Berrios and he has been one of the healthiest starters in all of baseball.
  11. The most plausible explanation is that none of the three are good enough to be big leaguers. It happens all the time hence the reference of AAAA player. Balazovic was waived and EVERY mlb team passed on him for free. What does that say? Larnach has shown little ability to hit mlb off speed. He is 27 years old and we think he is going to suddenly going to gain that skill? Miranda is more of a wild card but he has no glove so he is going to have to hit a crap ton to be a big leaguer. I sincerely hope I am wrong on all three but history suggests I’m not.
  12. Needed to add a starter was pretty much agreed upon by anybody seriously following the team. But hey you are entitled to your opinion so that’s fine by me.
  13. In an off season when they needed to add a starter he was the only starter obtained and he is likely to miss significant time or the whole season. If fiasco isn’t a word you like substitute fail.
  14. Duran is by far the most concerning. Tough to lose one of the best relievers for the first month and those injuries have a way of lingering. I was willing to keep an open mind on Disco but that whole deal is looking like a fiasco
  15. If Camargo becomes a good starting catcher then the Twins win the deal for sure. Otherwise no. Kenta gave us a good year and a half and LA is going to get a minimum of 6 years of a good, potentially great reliever.
  16. Nor the extra years of control.
  17. He better get enough time to actually get better at first (or not and we find out). Santana will not be here next year so we need to consider that. I have no interest is seeing AK in the outfield. He is not good out there.
  18. I was thinking the same thing. It will also be one of the more interesting story lines this year. No clue what to predict for Max in 2024.
  19. I would wait on DeSclafini for about 2 seconds. Start the season with Varland and deal with DeSclafani when he is healthy and pitching effectively.
  20. I did a back of the napkin calculation a while back and posted it. Came out about the same. 6-7% of any group of minor leaguers will make it. The number is much smaller than most people realize which is evidenced by people posting unrealistic prospect outcomes which I have snarkily named prospect puppy love. Anyway very interesting info and topic. Thanks for doing it.
  21. I was going to post on this topic as well when I saw the Giolito news. It used to frustrate me that the Twins refuse to spend bigger money on starters. I was wrong and they are right. They take it one more level which is rarely using higher draft picks on pitchers. This concept I’m not so sure about. Their track record on drafting pitchers and getting them to the big leagues isn’t good yet they have put together really good starting staffs recently by trading prospects. I guess you could say a higher drafted position player used to get a pitcher may be the same as drafting that pitcher but with better info?
  22. Agreed mostly. My view is when you have someone that has a chance to be great at a position you put them there and work around the others. For example Julien: if I’m the FO he is going to fit wherever he can or DH. His defensive profile is such that to have anyone play at a lesser position to keep him at second doesn’t make sense to me. Royce has such a good attitude that I’m sure he will play where they need him and he is one of the few players that could be good in a couple different spots. You are spot on that by the time Lee is ready the question might already be answered.
  23. I think he will break camp with the Twins………in 2025. We don’t need him right now so let him get good and ready before we start the service time.
  24. I just want the Twins to put players at their best position so we can be the best fielding club out there. Early scouting reports on Lee indicated he didn’t have the lateral quickness to stay at SS. However they felt that due to his soft hands and strong arm he could be an elite 3rd baseman. So let him play 3rd and move Lewis to second. He is so athletic he will be great there. As referenced above by Bean too often defensive flexibility is another way of saying I can be sub par at three different positions. I want defense to be a bigger priority but I don’t think the FO agrees with me on that one based on the type of player they draft / acquire.
  25. This is my view as well. Alcala has gotten a lot of love from TD for a guy that has never really performed. He had a good two month stretch a few years ago but hasn’t been good the rest of the time. And you are correct - lefties eat him up. But hope springs eternal - would surely be nice to get something from the Pressly deal.
