    Ok. Everyone repeat after me. Byron Buxton has a no trade clause. He is not going to be traded. He signed for less money so he could stay in Minnesota. He is not going to be traded.

    It’s ironic that Tommy John is so prevalent yet shoulder injuries seem to be the death blow to pitchers. Seems like very few make successful returns after serious shoulder problems. That’s why I want no part of Tyler Mahle. It’s not the TJ it was the shoulder problems he had before that.

    I’m really skeptical of his overall prospect value. He’s another guy that really is a DH assuming he can hit mlb pitching which is a big if. Having said that if you are on the forty man there is a decent chance you will be called up due to multiple injuries etc.

    He’s already been traded to the Rockies.

    Teams make roster decisions based on available options or no options all the time. Ask Bailey Ober if he liked starting out in St Paul last year.

    I think we are pretty far off on this. I value Brooks Lee highly. A year of Kepler is worth something. SWR was not good and Canterino is a complete unknown. To me Festa is not a dominant pitching prospect which isn’t a popular opinion on these boards. When healthy Trout is a top 5 player in the league.

    That click you heard is the Angels hanging up the phone. Part of the problem is the Twins just don’t have enough minor league talent to pull off a trade like this.

    One way that analytics has helped is to analyze players on objective data compared to the eye test with all the biases inherent to the human condition. I do think the sweet spot will be an organization that will marry the analytics along with wise decision making. After at some point humans are making decisions based on the data.

    You wouldn’t be cutting him loose. You would option him to St Paul and recall him at the first injury. If you read what I posted I never said Gordon was the better player - he’s not. And that’s not the point. The point is this FO loves to hang onto players if at all possible. This is a way they could do it. I’m not endorsing the move rather making an observation of the player decision making tendencies of the FO.

    Not to be snarky but we should pump the brakes on all prospects. Guys get weeded out at every level including the jump from AAA to the big leagues. I believe a mlb team starts the year with around 175 minor leaguers. If you consider 4 years as a typical development cycle and each year an avg of two guys graduate and stay in the big leagues that roughly a 5% success rate. Obviously not all prospects are equal but mathematically almost none of them will ever make it yet we see many posts listing multiple can’t miss prospects. The reality is the vast majority fail. I realize they provide hope for us fans but all prospects are suspects until they are not.

    I don’t disagree that Castro is the better player but that’s really not the point. The difference between the two isn’t huge and optioning Castro for a short period of time allows the Twins to keep both which the FO loves to do.

    I don’t think my assessment of Julien is popular. I understand your viewpoint but will disagree that Lewis and Lee are in the same boat as Julien in terms of upside. Julien is not in the same class as Lewis and Lee. Right now his max value for the Twins is a trade piece for a good pitcher. I value Julien as he is a good hitter but I just think he is the right person to trade for pitching. Especially because Polo can play second for a year or two when some combination of Lewis or Lee will take over second.

    I would trade Julien in a heartbeat for one of Seattles young starters. Julien is a good hitter but we may have received his max production in 2023. He’s not a good fielder and doesn’t hit lefties. Sell high.

    In my view trading him now would yield little or nothing. I would rather hang on to him and see if 2022 reappears. The way our FO hates to give up assets I wouldn’t be shocked if they optioned Castro and let it play out. Something would happen early on in the season to make the decision easy whether it is injury poor play etc.

    So he strikes out 34% of the time in the minors. How many players strike out less in the big leagues? Maybe Wallner but most players strikeout rates go up. He will match Gallos strikeout rate so there is that.

    This isn’t going to happen. They owe him 100% of the contract. Why would he take less when he accepted less when he signed the deal.

    Yea the whole notion is kind of silly. If you want to play young players then play them. You don’t need a payroll cut to justify it.

    So I guy that strikes out a ton and has no defensive value. Doesn’t walk but will run into a cookie in the minors once a week. This is more prospect puppy love.

    Signing Donaldson was a huge mistake and set in motion a series of unfavorable events. Since we’ve been looking for a good right handed hitter since he left the Garver trade has been a disaster.

    I believe Lee will be better than Julien. Switch hitter that should play plus defense. I like Julien but he is a platoon player that may end up a DH.

    I would trade Julien before Polo. He has enough value to be a part of a package that could return a good starter.

    I like it except I want no part of a bullpen that has Sands Moran and Alcala.

    Good god no. It’s not even a question and no he is not going to be taken. Horrible draft pick and really poor theoretical choice. His best possible outcome was always going to be a poor defender who was going to hit some homers but not much else. Guys like that are available all the time. Absolutely don’t have to waste a first round pick for that profile.
