  1. I totally agree that no trade out there would have greatly improved this team. And I agree the veterans on this team need to step up. But we've been saying that all year. Where are they? They have a few games when the veterans play decently then go right back In the tank again. They display no urgency, no leadership and no sense of direction. Sure they will probably win the Junior Varsity Central division. Big deal. This team is going nowhere with the current roster. I really didn't anticipate them doing much. My question is when will this FO and current coaches be held accountable? The players don't appear to be held accountable why should the bosses I guess. .
  2. Great comments by all. I'm just going to throw this in. The Twins are 30-39 against teams with 500 or better winning percentage. They are not serious contenders. They are frauds. They purport to be contenders. Yes for an embarrassingly weak A L Central. ImO not much of an accomplishment. They are what the are and have been for three years: a mediocre team jn a mediocre division. But all they have to do is hang in there because Cleveland has a tough schedule. Go Twins!
  3. There should be a trade or two today to get one or two right handed bats and bullpen help. I would DFA Gallo immediately thus creating a roster spot. IF the Twins have no plans to keep Gray and Maeda then they too should be traded. They are in a tough spot but it's their own fault. Trying to sell a mediocre team to its fans is tough. We should be used to it with the last three years. I will be following the trade deadline today. I expect the Twins may make a relatively minor move or two then tell ys how confident they are in the team they have. This FO usually signs free agents late after many of the most wanted free agents sign elsewhere. They also do the same with trades. Wait until the last minute while telling us its the best way to leverage a trade. But then miss out on a lot of opportunities from players already traded. Go Twins!
  4. This team has been stagnant over 2+ years. They play lackluster, boring, undisciplined baseball. That is apparently what this manager and FO are trying to sell to the public as good baseball. Unfortunately I don't see much change for the better. If we don't win the division this year, we need a complete change of management and coaching. They have told us for three seasons now that out winning window is open. We sure missed the boat there. With ownership signing off on big contracts, and having the highest team payroll ever, perhaps it's time to quit calling them cheap and put the blame on those running the team and hold them accountable.
  5. Plenty of people in the Twibs organization from the president through the gm and manager keep telling us we have a good ball club with a good chance of going to the world series. The over hype is ridiculous. I'm also convinced that this team is content with mediocrity. There is no drive, no leadership, very little enthusiasm, very little field managing and coaching. I want a team that is competitive, that doesn't make excuses for poor play, that actually cares about the fans, that actually can make effective trades, that can scout and that can be honest with fans. Trying to sell a 500 team as good in a kindergarten division is unprofessional. Most twins fans can see what you are selling us is a mediocre team. We have a FO that makes many more bad trades than good ones. We seem to only be satisfied trading for oft injured players. We sign free agents for 11 million dollars with a career 199 batting average that strikes out over 40% of time and tries to tell us its OK. That's baseball. That IMO is why we are where we are at. We have mediocrity because apparently that's what management wants to sell. Twins fans deserve better than that.
  6. I'm not convinced they are going to make the playoffs either. I think they will but playing as mediocre as they have been for the past 2+ years they aren't a playoff calibre team right now. But someone has to win the division right? Dallas Kuechel is an interesting situation. A typical Twins reclamation project hopeful. He's done his job at AAA. But that's what it is AAA, not the majors. His last 4 big league seasons produced ERA over5, then over 7, then over 9 then over 12. He's only been here since June. I'd hate to see some misplaced loyalty for Kuechel result in him replacing a starting pitcher who's been here a while. I just don't think there is enough in his big league tank left. I say trade him for some prospect.
  7. Tough games. Twins have lost 4 in a row just when it looked like they may turn it around. Sound familiar? Twins have given up35 runs the past 4 games. The pitching seems to have developed a few cracks. If our pitching goes south we are done. Not surprised though as this team has been doing this fir the past three seasons. Not much has changed.
  8. Not sure of the official stats but I don't think our starting pitching, other than Ober, has been very good since the all star break. Twins have given up 25 runs the past three games. I want so much to wrap myself into this team but I just can't. Everytime you think the are ready to turn the corner they falter. I've had the same problems with the Twins the past couple of seasons. They are proving to be frauds. Yes they may very well win the division which is also fraudulent. This team is so full of holes. Addition by subtraction? Dump Gallo. Just DFA him he's terrible.
  9. IMO I Think the Twins have mishandled him and others. It's quite obvious they don't like, want, or think he is a viable major league talent. He's shown flashes of brilliance. But seems like as soon as he goes into an 0 for 10 slump they shun him even though at one point early in the season he was second on the team with 30 some RBI. His reward? Send him to st. Paul. He has trouble hitting a breaking ball. Has anyone watched Byron Buxton flailing away at breaking balls the past few years? He can't hit it either. I agree with the contributer about why the hitting instructors can't seem to help him. Isn't that what they get paid for? It's more than just Larnach messing up here. He deserves to be on a major league team somewhere. I'm hoping that the Twins either make him an everyday player or trade him to an organization that can use him. After all we have Joey Gallo don't we lol?
  10. 18 strikeouts is horrendous. Pagan in any high pressure situation is poor management. Having so many bullpen arms unavailable for the game shows , in part, poor management. Those strikeouts were kind if being covered up by the team winning games. I believe we have over 90 strikeouts over the past 6 or 7 games. Awful. If Sands us so bad that you can't use him all week then get rid of him. Hopefully they win Wednesday. Go Twins.
  11. Even though the team is playing much better lately, IMO they are still a mediocre, not bad, team. If we have been in a " window" the past three years then the windows should be replaced with new ones. And a new set of eyes should then be supervising. We will probably win the division. And we should. Anything short of that in an awful division would be totally unacceptable.
  12. Way to go Twins. Just win baby! It's amazing what a nice winner streak does to cover up some real nagging deficiencies on a generally medio re team. Let's keep winning. Let's finish off Mariners then go to Royals and sweep them again.
  13. Nice win Twins. Let's sweep them today. Buxton looked back to normal yesterday. 0 for 4 with 3 strikeouts. Hopefully he starts at least hitting better in the days and weeks to come. Go Twins
  14. I had to do a double are and make sure it wasn't a rand stu balls article. Then I realized it's Saturday and not Friday. Anyway Ryan obviously isn't going anywhere. But the Twins need to seriously consider trading the players like Gray, Maeda, Gallo, Kepler etc that may not be here next year. Would be smart to get something for them before they leave and we get nothing.
  15. Great to see Buxton Homer twice and end the 0 for 26 slump. I believe that's his fourth similar slump this year. I'm glad everyone is happy but don't says he's out of his slump. He's out of the hitless streak he was on and ended it in grand style. But we've seen this several times this year. He will have a great game or even a few games then go right back to his horrific slumps. I'm hoping that doesn't happen. I'd love to see Buxton hitting like they always tell us he can hit. We will need him if we make the playoffs. Let's see how he does the next few games. It's always funny that you never hear about his injuries when he actually hits the ball with authority. But when he is in one of his many slumps t h ats all you hear about is how his injuries are the cause of his poor hitting. Go Buck. We need you and are all pulling for you.
  16. Rocco IS the worst twins manager since Miller. Yesterday's 5-0 game was another in a long list of his throwaway games. Games that could have been won or at least be competitive in. But he elected to sit 2 of his hottest hitters in Correa and Kepler. But we did have the now 0 for 26 Buxton in there with his usual pathetic automatic out. Yes 5-2 was fine. But three of those wins came against the AAA Oakland As and ugly ones at that. They went 2-2 against the major league Mariners. It's so hard to get wrapped up in this team. I really want to though. It's so hard because they just play mediocre baseball led by a very poor manager. White Sox up next at home. Twins will be facing three pretty good starting pitchers that have struggled at times this year. But they are 17 games below 500. A sweep should be the goal. Anything less than taking 2 of 3 is a failure.
  17. Yes I doubt they will resign him. If he rejects the qualifying offer the Twins only get a draft pick. Not much considering how well he's pitched for us. As with any player about to leave via free agency you risk getting nothing. Your article doesn't mention the trade option. Although I don't think they will trade him because in part it may be a public relations nightmare to trade a top end starting pitcher in a pennant chase. My guess is he's gone at end of year and we get a draft pick.
  18. They must keep and play Julien when Polanco returns this weekend. He's been their best hitter by far. My guess is they send Wallner down again. It's obvious management doesn't think he's MLB caliber. They bring him up and then just sit him. What a total disservice to him and his development. Rocco says he doesn't have any at bats for him. Really??? The team is floundering around 500 in an embarrassingly poor division. Do they even watch their own product? If they send Julien down when Polanco returns there should immediately be firings. Julien should stay and should play regularly. He's earned it. It's becoming more and more clear that the FO isn't interested in winning as long as the plan is followed. Remember they said " it's the process, not the results that we are interested in" Easy solution seems to be let Julien DH. Get Buxton out of there for an extended period of time. He's hurting the teams chances of winning. This 8 year fixation on Buxton is ludicrous. He's hurt so often that we've only seen very short glimpses if his abilities. It's sad but it's finally time to realize Buxton isn't the foundation for a winning team.
  19. People said after winning 3 ugly games in Oakland that a win is a win. True. But a loss is a loss as well. Buxtons lack of performance and Baldellis insistence of keeping in the lineup and batting him third is just a part of this team's mess. .I've maintained for quite a while that they treat their developing players very poorly. What they are doing to Wallner is very unprofessional. They've done that with Gordon and others. But they stick by their underperformed veterans. I'm starting to worry just a little about our starting pitching. It hasn't been very sharp the past several games. Hopefully it's just a blip and it gets back to mormal. If our starting pitching goes south we are in big trouble. Where would this team be if the starting pitching hadn't been so great? 10-15 games under 500? Go Twins
  20. Oakland and kansas.city may be major league teams in that they are registered each year to play major league baseball. But that doesn't mean they have major league quality players. Both teams resemble AAA teams. I'm very glad we swept them. We should have swept them. I just have a little hollow feeling regarding the sweep. There's so many things wrong v with this team. They didn't play well this series and in my opinion would have been swept by even an average team. Plus we had to burn Duran all three games against the lowly A's. He won't be available probably until Wednesday or Thursday when we actually play a major league team. I hope now we pull away from the rest of the pack. But this is the third straight season of bland, boring baseball Twins style.
  21. Yes. This is not good baseball. Gray will not likely be back next year. He as much said so. Plus he appears to have a little bit of a rocky relationship with Rocco. IMO I don't think he really likes it here. We need to keep him and maybe give him a contract offer ge can't refuse. But if he leaves via free agency we get only a draft pick. I think they will entertain offers for him but ultimately not trade him. Then when he leaves we can witch about letting him go and getting nothing in return. Tough spot for twins to be in but they created it.
  22. Good question. Why is Buxton even in the lineup? He's an automatic out. If you have to have him in there why not further down the order? Statistically we must have one of the poorest production from the DH position than anyone in baseball. I'm glad we brought up Matt Wallner but why doesn't he play him at all. Baldelli said today before the game that he doesn't have any at bats for him. Really?? Wallner may not be THE answer but we aren't going to know that by having him sit on the bench. Wallner should be at DH at least for now or get him in for Kepler once in a while. Anybody is better than Buxton right now. Get him out if there. I feel sorry for some of our young, but not young anymore prospects who aren't given a fair chance to play. It will be fun now to see how the team plays against najor league teams instead of AAA teams like Oakland and Kansas City. Twins are 12-1 against Kansas city and Oakland and 36-45 against everyone else.
  23. I like Sonny Gray but don't even think about comparing him to some of the Twins greats. It demeans past pitching performances. Gray is good, not great. Maeda shouldn't even be mentioned in this article. Starting pitching in many cases has been a joke in recent years. Yes you still have a few standouts but starting pitchers overall pitch much less and are a paid a lot more than they used to. I yearn for the days when starting pitchers wanted and were expected to pitch complete games or close to it. BTW Sonny Gray has said numerous times he is testing free agency this year. In all likelihood this will be his final year in a Twins uniform.
  24. I'm glad they at least won. Still so many flaws in this team. Buxton batting 3rd. Really?? He's hitting 202 is in an 0 for 16 streak with I strikeouts. He's a rally killer. If they have to play him at least move him down in the order. Let's get real here. People were so excited when they swept the lowly Royals. Then got blown out by a good Baltimore team because we can't compete with good teams. The As are even more lowly than the Royals. It is a AAA team essentially. A bottom line for me is the Twins are 11-1 against the Royals and As and 36-45 against everyone else they have played. Beating the weak sisters of the poor is good in that you beat the ones you should even if it's ugly. But it sure masks what this team really is. With the easiest schedule remaining in all of baseball the Twins could and should make some hay in the standings. If they don't the season will be a complete failure.
