  1. If Julian can't pick it up a bit, and if Lee does well at AAA I can see him up in a few weeks, maybe sooner if there is an injury. If SWR keeps pitching well I don't see Festa getting the call until the end of AAA season to be in the pen. If SWR goes in the tank then Festa will get his chance IMO.
  2. They need Larnach's foot to get better. He is crushing the ball but doesn't have a lot to show for it yet.
  3. I agree that his 2 strike approach must change. He just can't let these close pitches go by. He needs to learn to just foul them off. But its not just that. He is taking good pitches to hit in the zone. I think when Lewis gets back they should send him back down for a reset. I'm not giving up on him, just think he needs some time to rebuild his confidence.
  4. Not 1/2 way through the season yet, but so far so good. Other teams are going to make some adjustments against him so the test will come as he makes adjustments to those.
  5. I'd hate to see Miranda get sent down, though at this point that seems the most likely move with this mgmt. team. Miranda so far has been one of the best and most steady hitters in the lineup.
  6. IMO he needs to be a little more aggressive on the corner pitches. Way too many called 3rd strikes on border line pitches.
  7. I agree. Unless they are facing a lefty that dominates LH hitters, I say leave Kepler in, and most the time let Julian hit. The successful bullpens in the past had pretty structured spots where guys could pretty well anticipate if they would come in. At this point however, the only 2 guys that would pitch in late innings with a lead would be Jax and Duran. This is why I don't understand the way they have used Alcala.
  8. Pitching is like real estate. Location, location, location. When any pitcher misses on location in the middle of the zone, major league hitters will hit it, hard. Interesting theory about Vazquez though. Moving target? I see why he would do it, but if its affecting any of the pitchers it should be addressed.
  9. I'm on the record for doubting all the hype about the pen at the beginning of the season. Too many guys were being banked on with very little history of being quality arms.
  10. Wow, hitting is bad, fielding is bad, even the pitching has been bad lately. Looks a lot like a total system failure!
  11. Look at the splits for Parker. Lefties have been much better against him. Yet, we sit the better hitters for guys struggling to get above the Mendoza line. I thought Rocco played off the stat sheet for lineups.
  12. The Pioneer Press says his locker was cleaned out, so maybe he's gone?
  13. My friend down in St. Pete Had to call me this morning just to ask if I still love Okert. He said he was so glad they found someone to dump him on. He told me at the time of the trade how happy he was to see him go. Now I'm starting to see why.
  14. That would be Margot or Martin for replacement?
  15. This is what happens when they sign a pitcher that had 1 good season. At this point they have only Jax that is reliable to set up Duran. Thielbar has been OK most days, Okert and Funderburk have been hit and miss, Jackson has looked bad more than good, Sands has been overused and put in positions he wasn't ready for, and Staumont hasn't pitched enough yet for me to decide on. This was supposed to be one of the best pens in the league, but so far hasn't been. Of course part of the problem IMO is poor management of the pen. IMO that is Rocco's biggest area that needs improvement.
  16. I don't see catcher being a problem unless someone gets hurt. I am concerned with the starting rotation though, The pen is getting a lot of work, but they do need to be better about having guys get warmed up and not using them, then the next night they warm again and don't get used, on the 3rd night warm up and come in. A full warm up should be considered an appearance and after 2 straight most will need a day off. It's not like the old days of bringing guys in 2-3 days in a row and expecting multiple innings. Sands came in on a 3rd warm up day and looked gassed. It would help to have a couple of 2 inning guys.
  17. I'm hopeful. The next couple of weeks could go a long way to solidifying the standings.
  18. Actually, the 3 of Margot, Farmer, and Vazquez did what was expected, which is almost nothing. Taking 1/3 of your top players out and putting in guys that haven't hit at all in their place kind of starts them out short handed on talent from the start!
  19. They may very well need to call him up yet this season. In the meantime he needs to build up his IP and try to refine his control some. Looks like a very interesting prospect.
  20. Another lefty shuts them down. Bottom 1/3 of lineup is an almost sure 3 outs. The 6 million dollar backup (Farmer) looks lost. Margot looks like a bad trade.
  21. I would think the clock is ticking for Margot. He either starts hitting or gets cut. In fairness that's also what I thought about Santana. Now he is hitting somewhat, but he does play pretty good defense, which Margot really doesn't.
