  1. I agree. Another big difference is losing Francona, who IMO is one of the best managers in the modern age.
  2. Are the Twins getting hurt more than normal? Anyone know where they rank as far as injuries compared to the rest of the league over the last 2-3 years?
  3. This past weekend I predicted KC at 72 wins, passing Chicago.
  4. I will take the over on Jeffers, Julien, Buxton. AK, Vazquez, and Paddack. The only under will be Margot IMO.
  5. Let's hope he can carry his ST success into the regular season. With so many RP out he will be relied on probably heavier than ever.
  6. They think it's better to sign a guy that one of the worse teams cut, instead of taking a look at some of the youngsters or even some of the other guys they got over the winter? They have looked awful this spring. I know it's just ST but they have really sucked so far. Now this?
  7. Lewis appears to be a key part of the core going forward. Now the question becomes his health.
  8. I would love to see AK get more reps in the field as I believe he's too young to start a DH career. However, going off several things said by management Santana is pegged as the starter at 1st. I'm not sure about OF starts though he should get time out there too IMO.
  9. At this point, Santana is the starter at 1st, AK is the DH. How long it stays that way will depend on Santana IMO. If he can at least be near avg. he will get 75-80% of the starts at 1st.
  10. An ERA in the mid 4s would be great. Let's hope he's up to it!
  11. I think (or at least hope) both Ober and Paddack out perform these projections.
  12. The injury threat is the biggest concern to me. I feel we have a pretty solid top 4 and Varland is doing very well this spring (for whatever that's worth) but then we step down to SWR with very little MLB experience, and Festa with 0 experience or maybe Dobnak. On a side note, the Athletic has Lopez ranked #17 for starters which I think is much too low. I'm biased but to me he should be top 10.
  13. Looks to me like Castro is one of those guys that gets better the more he plays. When they signed him last year I figured he was just a depth guy for AAA. He got his chance and ran with it. Loved to watch him play last year. Now we'll see if last season was like a career type year or if it was the beginning to a nice career!
  14. Looks like all that depth will be needed. Now the question is quantity over quality? Only the regular season will be the answer.
  15. I believe that answer is yes, they are ready, at least they better be!
  16. Is he better than Varland? That's the question the Twins should ask if signing another starter.
  17. Ober looked great last spring and as I remember there were a lot of folks wanting him to be on the opening day roster, and put Maeda in the pen. Not so different with Varland this spring. At least SWR and Headrick have another year of experience with a taste of the majors.
  18. I can agree to a point. ST after all is more of an exhibition type season. However, I do agree with the re-entry rule early in the spring. So maybe just make the last 7-10 days of not allowing it?
  19. I actually think Ober will be better than Ryan this year. I also believe Paddack will be better than projections. After them between Desclafini & Varland are big question marks. Varland is lights out so far in ST but we all know that means little. I'm anxious to see Desclafini pitch this ST. He was pretty good a few years ago, so I'm going to take the optimistic view and hope all goes well. My order for the rotation would be Lopez, Ober, Ryan Paddack, and 5A Desclafini, 5B Varland, with a short leash on Desclafini.
  20. I agree that last years changes were good. I do however think more needs to be done. Maybe the ABS would help. Maybe better marketing from MLB could help. For sure getting better (and less expensive) exposure would help. The over all ratings for viewership have been in decline for the last several years.
  21. Though I'm unhappy about it, I can understand the Twins being pro-active and cutting payroll. I expect to see it raise some next year but probably not much. The last few years the FO has done a pretty good job building the farm system up, so I expect to see more pre-arb type youngsters coming along. With the over all decline of the sports popularity, I don't expect to see any huge TV contracts being offered. However, following the Rays blue print I could see the FO getting more active with trades before guys hit free agency. The Rays have managed to stay pretty competitive this way and for the next few years that may be enough in the Central division. I'm thankful the Twins aren't in the East!
  22. I was one of the many that had given up on Max. Well he proved me (and others) wrong after the all star break. Now the question for me is, was that a fluke or did he actually unlock something? I truly hope it's the latter, as I've always liked the guy. This year is a major time for Wallner to show if he can sustain and grow the progress he made last year. What if he doesn't and has that sophomore slump so many youngsters have had? If Max has another good year would he be willing to give a home team discount? If not, what kind of compensatory draft pick would the Twins get?
  23. So the Twins must have a plan for the future at 1st base. I don't have a lot of confidence in Santana even this year but for sure next year. Giving up on AK playing the field seems premature to me. So do they intend to move Julian over to make room for Lee?
