  1. broken promises trying to get a new stadium? Who would have thought.
  2. If he can start 20 games with an ERA under 4.00 I would consider his return successful.
  3. With Kepler probably moving on next year, I could see moving AK to LF, Julian to 1st, and Lee to 2nd. Of course that also depends on if AK can stay healthy and perform to his expected level. Then there's Jenkins coming along so Julian, Lee, and AK better perform.
  4. I also expect some regression from Jeffers. I think he will fall somewhere between avg. and good. I also expect some improvement from Vazquez. IMO the most important part of catching is the defense. Jeffers has room for improvement there, especially blocking pitches. I'm of the school of thought that says pitch framing is at least somewhat dependent on the ump, which is pretty hard for a catcher to control. Hopefully they can perfect the auto strike zone and bring to MLB soon!
  5. Would the MLB players union ever agree to that? What other concessions would the union want in return?
  6. Were you around during Calvin's years? I was and I'll take the Pohlads over that all day long.
  7. I hope you're right about the pen. I agree its deeper, but the skeptic in me wonders if some of these guys had a "career" year. not much history for guys in the 30's.
  8. I think a wait and see attitude is the best course to take at this time. I'm sure the FO is looking to see what is available and at what price, so we wait. Like many others, at this time I just don't see our starters as WS contenders, but that too can change. Last spring I never thought Ober would pitch as well as he did (and stayed healthy) so things can change. Its a long season!
  9. He's young and learning. Now its time for the coaches to coach him up.
  10. Quite honestly, I can't afford to take them to the game. between prices of tickets and parking, not to mention gas to drive the 80 miles each way, it just gets a bit too expensive. I save up all summer for the county fair (those rides are crazy expensive) and Christmas presents, there just isn't much left over. I don't know how some of the retirees survive on the little we get from SS.
  11. What about Noah Miller. The guy is a slick fielder, maybe one of the best ss I've seen in the minors. His hitting needs some work, but that kid can really play.
  12. That may be, but Kuechel was the exception to the rule. As I remember, Keuchel got lit up pretty well last year. Do you know if he signed anywhere else this season?
  13. Are you a grandparent? On the few times I can take one of my grandkids out I want to spoil them a bit. The advantage of being Gramps is I can spoil them and send them back home. LOL
  14. He should be in the hall. bad break having his 1st year of eligibility when he did.
  15. Have all day games "senior days" like 1/2 price for seniors and couple that with all kids under 10 get $5 tickets. I'd bring the grandkids in a few times with that deal, and I bet it would cost at least another $50 per kid for concessions.
  16. In this age he will have to gain some velocity on the fastball.
  17. I've been thinking the same thing. Older relievers with small track records of success.
  18. Topa is a guy that should make the opening day roster, but he really doesn't have much of a track record before last year. He seems to have found something that works, but 1 really good season is not a guarantee of success. I don't know about Okert, but the general feeling among some of the fans in Florida was good to trade him. (But how many times are fans wrong.) This pen looks better on paper with plenty of vets, so the hopes are high!
  19. Being able to make adjustments on the fly is one of the things that separate the good players from the great players, both pitchers and hitters. Its good to hear Varland acknowledging that he needs an adjustment to continue growing and improving!
  20. I would like to see Martin too. He has speed which is like a black hole on this team, and is a capable CF'er. Otherwise, I wouldn't mind a reunion with MAT.
  21. Gray had an exceptional year last season, and I don't expect him to do that well again. Paddack is the most interesting to me. Can he hold up for 20-25 starts? If so IMO he should be an improvement over what Maeda did last year. Desclafini is such a question to me, but then Varland could go in that spot, maybe even beating him out for the rotation. Ober finally stayed healthy last year and if he does this season, he may be a solid replacement for what Gray would reasonably expected to do. As others have said, the hitting could/should be stronger, and hopefully make up for any deficiency in the starters. I'm not quite as bullish on the pen as others are so they can prove me wrong I hope.
  22. I'd love to see them be aggressive this year and try to get him a taste of AAA. Debut for the Twins in '25?
  23. I can see a possibility for '25 of moving AK to left or trading him, depending on how '24 goes. That would open 1st for Julian and Lee at 2nd. Of course that holds up Jenkins if he's ready, so then they would need some sort of DH rotation.
