  1. Hopefully the shoulder issue is behind him. If so, I expect him to be a big part of the team this next season.
  2. That was a great pen. Just get thru 6 with a lead and the game was pretty much over. Would love to see that type of pen again!
  3. What I meant to say was a potential top of the order starter. I would throw in another prospect to make it work.
  4. IMO everyone pretty much should be available if the price is right. With that being said, I don't see either one of these getting traded this off season. If I was the GM I would look at a package of someone like Martin and AK for a top of the rotation starter. Both can be replaced, and could offer a team some young controllable talent.
  5. I would think, if they really wanted to do that, they would have already moved at least Farmer. This FO tends to wait on deals, but so many have already been done, the trade market must have shrunk. I would like a package deal of either Farmer or Martin with AK to get a starter that could grow into a 2 hole type, then move Julian to 1st, and Lee to 2nd, or 3rd, with Lewis to 2nd. That could give an IF of Lewis, Correa, Lee, and Julian.
  6. I would love to see the Twins get Burnes but I don't see how they can fit him in with the current budget restraints. IMO a 1 year rental should be out of the question. I wonder if the Twins could boost attendance enough, even if they could build a true powerhouse team, to offset some of the loss of TV revenue? Would it even make a difference if they could boost there attendance by say 25-30%? I kind of doubt it.
  7. And then what about Martin? I think Lee would bring a higher trade value. Or how about Martin and AK for a starter? Move Julian to 1st, doesn't he have some experience there?
  8. Lee is an interesting candidate for trade IMO. He wouldn't have a spot on the IF unless a couple guys go down. I would think he could fetch a healthy return. Is there any chance the Twins might think of moving him to OF?
  9. I wonder if he changed due to poor mechanics or if he just got a better mind set and let it rip. Once he had gone on a bit of a tare his confidence could carry him a long way. Baseball hitting is a game of failures. Even a good hitter will "fail" 2/3 of the time. How you react will be the key to more success.
  10. Larnach led the team in RBI's, even for a while after he was sent down. Miranda had a bad shoulder in ST and never bounced back. I think both have a chance to be big contributors this next season.
  11. I would like to start him in AA ball to see what happens. Weather should be better there also. I expect the Twins will be more cautious than that though and start him in either low A or high A.
  12. I remember Tovar playing all 9 positions but I don't remember Zoilo doing it.
  13. I remember him well. I can't call him a great player, other than 65 and 66, but he certainly was an above average fielder back then. Keep in mind back then the SS was there for defense, and hitting was a bonus!
  14. I see a potential glaring hole in the lineup, center field. Don't get me wrong, I really like Buxton. But what's going to happen when (not if) he goes down with another injury? Do you have confidence in Castro? What about Gordon? I don't have confidence in either one for more than a fill in here and there. Castro looked great last season, but was it a "career year" or did he truly turn a corner? Gordon had a couple of decent months 2 seasons ago, but he just doesn't look like a replacement level player. Larnach sure isn't going to CF either. Looks like a big hole to me.
  15. The Santana trade brought back some decent players, but combined they didn't help the way Johan did. IMO he was one of the best pitchers the Twins have ever had. As far as today goes, I could see Lee or Rodriguez or even AK being traded for a top 2 type starter.
  16. 23.5 mil is way above "reasonable" to me. No way were the Twins going anywhere near that price tag this year. I read about so many owners complaining about losing revenue from TV contracts, yet the players get more and more money. Just my opinion, but what these guys are getting paid these days is crazy!
  17. Putting salary aside for a minute, I would rather have Polo.
  18. I agree that Polo is an important part of the team. He is probably the guy I want at the plate with someone on base. That said, I don't believe anybody should be "untouchable" for a trade. I would absolutely keep him, at least to start the season, unless a trade that blows me away comes along.
  19. Maybe he needs to go to Driveline to work on the shape of his fastball. If they are going to use him in middle relief, as long as he gets outs, are the K's that important?
  20. I hope he can make the adjustments as pitchers adjust to him. I remember well how Sano was really good in the minors, had a decent avg. and OBA. His 1st year up he looked so promising. Then he got the homer fever and swung as hard as he could and hoped he hit it. He could have hit it out of any field in any park he had so much power. Sad to see so much potential go bad!
  21. That must be the biggest mistake the Twins ever made. As I remember the biggest knock on Ortiz was he couldn't "go the other way" and was a strict pull hitter. He sure would fit in well with the current FO plans of all or nothing though!
  22. Again I'll say a 2 strike approach doesn't mean you're a slap or singles hitter. Just let it rip until you have 2 strikes. Even with 2 strikes, you may get a gift from the baseball gods and get a hanger or meatball, then let it rip. The key is putting the ball in play by making solid contact. Who knows, it could be a hit, an error, lost in the sun or crowd. If someone is on base the chances for a positive outcome increase. After all a K gives about 0% chance of something good happening. If you like 10-12 Ks a game with 1 or 2 HRs that's fine. I prefer to see more action on the field then that!
  23. Carew, Gwenn, Boggs, Arraez to name a few. You don't have to be a contact hitter to lower Ks though. Killebrew had a 2 strike approach and so did Allison. Get on base and score is the name of the game.
