  1. I just hope he can play the field again. He sure flopped as a DH, so IMO its in the field, on the bench, or on the injured list!
  2. Back in my day it meant you would choke up on the bat a bit to give better bat control, and be able to foul off anything close until you got a pitch to hit hard, usually a line drive somewhere.
  3. A successful outcome is putting the ball in play. Could be a hit, maybe a bad bounce, maybe get in the lights and lost, or maybe just an error. Better odds then striking out which has 0 chance of success!
  4. As far as the clock starting as soon as the pitcher gets the ball, I can see a situation where the pitcher can buy a few seconds by simply keeping his back turned as he slowly gets back on the mound. I like the expanded base paths as a RH hitter can have a more natural path to the bag. I'm not so worried about collisions increasing as the size of the bases was expanded last year.
  5. What I see as the biggest part of the K problem is lack of a 2 strike approach, especially with guys in scoring position. I have been a baseball fan since the Twins came to Minn. I have seen so many power hitters, many hitting over 40 a year, with K rates under 25%. Most had a basic 2 strike approach, but could tattoo a 2 strike pitch. To say power hitters are going to K over 25% of at bats is nothing more then a big copout.
  6. Don.t mortgage the future for anything less then a 60% chance of success. And for sure I don't trade players that look like they are the future for 1 year rentals,
  7. Make a trade like this and next year we would basically be in the same boat we are now, looking for a frontline pitcher, with fewer top assets to trade.
  8. yes, times have changed. Glad I grew up when I did. Much simpler time I guess!
  9. I think a deal with Amazon Prime would be the way to go. However, they would need to have the rights and means to broadcast all games. If not, try to figure something else out. I have no idea where the Wild and Wolves stand with Bally's, but I think they could all get together and start there own online service with some sort of over the air broadcasts. No idea what that would take, but I understand another team or two is trying.
  10. In trade #1, who would play OF for the Twins? Trade #2 seems a bit to much losing Rodriguez, but doable if Sea throws in a prospect maybe? Trade #3 I just don't see it happening, Not 2 top prospects. Unless they can extend Gilbert out another to cover his 1st few FA years.
  11. I had a coach back in the late 60's that would stress making contact. If you hit the ball anything can happen and does quite often. Bad bounce, errors, mental mistakes just don't happen when they strikeout. It makes perfect sense to build a pitching staff around high strikeouts. They are the safest outs. This front office gets that while building their staff, yet don't seem willing to reverse that thinking with their lineups. Absolutely, they need power hitters. But they need to develop a 2 strike approach also. The late great Killebrew hit over 500 homeruns, but even he would be embarrassed by the strikeout rates this team had last year!
  12. We lived in an area with lots of kids now known as boomers. We would get up, rush to get "chores" done and head to the ball field. Usually we had 4-5 guys per team and played pull field and pitchers hand. By mid afternoon many of us had paper routes to do, then dinner, then off to play ball either as practice for little league or a game. What a great time to be a kid. Now, there is so little push on joining little league, its no wonder the sport is losing ground with young fans. I guess its just easier to play games on their phones!
  13. No way I'm trading a top prospect and Miranda (who I believe is a big bounce back candidate) for a 4 or 5 slot pitcher, unless there is truly something to unlock. Trading a prospect like Festa who projects more as a 2 or 3 slot pitcher doesn't make sense unless you get a guy that has at least as much of a ceiling.
  14. Some of the pitchers in the "lower tier" would be a simple no for me, I'd rather see what we have in the minors. I wouldn't trade Vazquez. He didn't have a good year offensively, but he was still the best defensive catcher on the roster. IMO catcher is a position that is defense 1st. I agree that Miranda and AK deserve more time. I think the bad shoulder started a snow ball effect for Miranda, and when AK is healthy he's above avg. though I'm not sold on his defense. I think he may be more of a DH type in the not so distant future.
  15. i might bump yhose early numbers up slightly if that's what it takes
  16. I can't put a team that barely finished above .500, didn't win 90 games, and ranked in the bottom half of the league in so many cats in the top 10. The first half of the season was so bad. The only thing they had going for them was the starters. In any other division they would have been buried!
  17. As I understand it means the player would have to approve any trade.
  18. I would be very selective and careful trading away either Polo or Kepler. We really don't know how well Julian will do in a full year of other teams scouting for weaknesses. Also, other than Larnach, you are banking on Martin or one of the utility guys on the OF. Either is a risk worth taking, provided they get some MLB ready talent that has room to grow, and at least a few years of control.
  19. Hinch and the Tigers are the biggest threats IMO. Baldelli has to learn to trust his gut as much as the spread sheet. Both are tools that should be used.
  20. I think SWR will get some starts unless they signor trade for another good starter, I also expect to see Martin and probably Lee get some time.
  21. I agree, IMO they should keep him, but if somebody came up with a really sweet deal I have to at least listen, and if it's a good enough offer pull the trigger!
  22. IMO they will sign some guy(s) with something to prove to a minor league contract with an invite to ST.
