  1. I used that approach and hit .450 in my 3 years. I never was a power hitter but hit a lot of doubles and triples.
  2. Ryan needs to develop or improve his secondary pitches to take the next step. Rodriguez is to high on this list IMO. High K rate will only get worse in the majors with no Electronic K zone. Julian should soar up this list next year IMO. Ober just needs to build up his stamina so he can give mor IP. Correa will be better at the plate with the injury over (hopefully).
  3. We were taught back in HS way back in the early 70s how to foul off balls that were close with 2 strikes. These guys are pro hitters. I would think if a kid in HS can learn to do this, these guys should also!
  4. Most of the guys ahead of him are veterans with a reputation for having a "good eye". IMO the umps give some guys the benefit of the doubt on close pitches. Julian hasn't yet earned that. Which brings me to the question, when will MLB do something about calling balls and strikes!
  5. I still say most of the players should develop a 2 strike approach. Swing as hard as you want early and let it rip, but with 2 strikes, especially with someone on base, try to make contact. If they get a hanger, then let it rip. Otherwise, try to make contact.
  6. At this point expecting anything from Staumont is crazy. He hasn't been that good before the surgery and that procedure doesn't have a real good success rate. Alcala is anybody's guess. Fundy looked pretty good in his limited time with the big club so of the 3 I would say at this point he is the most likely to get more innings.
  7. Wallner and his high K rate will need to have his avg and OBP up to stay this high on the list. Duran should rate higher IMO.
  8. Although I like Provus, I'm very sad to see Dick leave. He had such a wealth of knowledge about the Twins due to his vast experience covering them. Very few people have seen the Twins play as long as Dick has. I don't know how we will be watching games this season, but it will be kind of depressing to me not hearing the big voice of Dick Bremer!
  9. Depending on salary I'd say sign him! He sure did the job last year.
  10. Yes I do. Would it have failed with today's internet and cable though?
  11. I would love to see a big bounce back in CF, but all those K's!
  12. Great article! I remember headlines in the paper about the "M&M" boys. 3 Twins greats with Cuddy.
  13. They absolutely must run more. this station to station is outdated with the new rules and the Twins were way behind the rest of the league last season. Please cut down the K's! Most players (not all) should develop a 2 strike approach. Watching the team strikeout with guys in scoring position is driving me crazy! It would probably help with more scoring later also.
  14. How about something as crazy as world peace? Or even this great country of ours becoming more united? Nothing to do with baseball but would make watching games more enjoyable IMHO!
  15. It's sad to see how many players had careers cut short due to injury. Hope Jenkins can avoid any serious, career threatening injuries.
  16. I'm still thinking Castro as the backup, at least for the 1st couple months. I also expect Martin to get some time out there.
  17. I have high hopes for Paddack. I think he will be a mid rotation talent probably working out of the 4 or 5 slot to manage his innings. Canterino is another Rice pitcher with arm issues. Time will tell how he comes back after surgery. Probably will see limited innings this year, but maybe next year he can slide into the starting rotation.
  18. Looks like it's going to be a long off-season.
  19. My wishes would be good health, at least 2 MLB quality starters, good weather and lots of luck!
  20. IMO the Twins would need to get at least 2 more starters before I move Varland to the pen. 1 two or three slot probably thru trade, and 1 quality back end of the rotation, maybe somebody coming back from an injury. thru free agency.
  21. Some regression is inevitable IMHO. Advance scouts will look for holes in their swings, and pitchers will adjust. It kind of comes down to who makes the best adjustments. I don't see as much fall off for Lewis, other than maybe a decrease in HR's and a small dip in Avg. (.270 would be fine with me). Julian is going to all right if the umps start calling balls and strikes better (fat chance). Wallner could see some problems, especially if he doesn't develop some sort of 2 strike approach. Next up we should see Martin and Lee soon.
  22. Wow, this is the 1st time in I don't know how long I've read or heard domething positive about old Calvin!
  23. Mauer belongs in the hall. IMO he should be a 1st ballot inductee. I've never understood how some local fans disrespected him. He was one of the best catchers of all time. It was unfortunate an injury made him switch positions, but he still hit! Local boy done great!
  24. I was hopeful about Archer, so bummed when he failed. I expected Bundy to fail ,Happ didn't look bad early on but sure tanked in the end. The others had such low expectations they got what they paid for.
