  1. Winning all those gold gloves should put him on the ballot, but there are so many eligible players with higher profiles that he probably will wait for the veterans committee. He should get in on that catch he made robbing Bonds of HR in the all star game. Probably my favorite Hunter memory.
  2. Analytics huh? I guess that's the way to go then. But I would think it would help develop starters better to have them up for a few weeks at a time just to learn from the vets. Even if they only get a couple of innings, it would be a way to keep the innings from piling up. But I spose they have analytics against doing that too. Game has really changed.
  3. In the "old" days, starters in the minors were quite often called up to work out of the pen as they got accustomed to the majors. Think Santana and Liriano. They don't seem to do that any more. Anybody know why?
  4. I highly doubt this is the roster come the start of the season. I would expect a trade at some point, probably before ST starts. I also think there will be a minor league contract or two with invites to ST.
  5. Arraez just couldn't run. In Martins case he has been a good to great base stealer. Then you use the big boppers behind him to hopefully drive him in.
  6. Sands will probably get another chance due to the fact he was drafted by this FO, he's got to make it this year or probably be off the 40. I still hold out hope for both Alcala and Winder. Winder could probably benefit by a trip to Driveline. I can't help but wonder if Balazovic has flamed out. More questions than answers.
  7. IMHO the two most important things for a hitter are getting on base and when there scoring runs.
  8. But it could make a difference if they want to make a trade even as late as the deadline
  9. I'm curious to see if this Amazon deal goes thru and if it has an effect on the Twins, or if it will be early enough to free up some more $$.
  10. Keep Vazquez. Twins were very lucky last year that neither catcher missed time due to injury. Getting rid of their best defensive catcher would leave them in trouble if Jeffers had to miss time.
  11. But don't ignore the fact that these players are no longer available for other teams to sign. When the top few teams can get the top of the player pool I feel it takes away from the integrity of the game.
  12. I agree that MLB needs to do something to address the inequity between the NY teams and some of the west coast teams. What the Dodgers have spent this year is just crazy, even with the deferred contracts. There are so few teams that can compete with that kind of spending it creates an imbalance. I don't have a solution, short of a hard cap that the players will never agree too, does anybody else?
  13. I have to disagree with that. who cares if a ball traveling 80 MPH or 95MPH finds its way just over the head or just out of reach of an infielder. Base hit either way. Maybe it's bat control, or maybe just luck. Either way the guy is on base do be driven in by one of the big boppers. I certainly wouldn't want a lineup full of light hitters, but a guy that gets on base, regardless of how, is a valuable player. Sure beats all the K's this team has IMO.
  14. The way catchers set up these days must make it harder to block some pitches. I would think it's harder to throw also. I'm sure there's a reason for the change, (I'm told for pitch framing) but I would think it's giving up some to gain some.
  15. IMO what matters the most is scoring runs. Some guys hit HR's, some guys don't, but if they get on base and score I don't care how hard they hit. Martin is a guy that gets on base, and can run. He should be a good to great table setter.
  16. Hopefully the automated strike zone hits the majors soon, and we can throw out that stupid pitch framing stat, which IMO is extremely subjective to the ump as well!
  17. Wow, some serious Correa bashers on here. I don't know how things will turn out for HOF, but I sure am glad the Twins signed him!
  18. I was told it was used from A to AAA. Thanks for the info!
  19. I'm glad the Twins quit messing with Martins swing. He probably isn't going to hit for a lot of power, (something this FO covets) but a decent OBA with his speed should play well in todays game.
  20. I wonder how much of an effect the automated strike zone in the minors has? And then they get to the majors and have a very inconsistent zone? That would take a while to adapt too I would think.

    A Man of Many Gloves

I was at that game in '68. It was well publicized that "Pepe" would be playing all positions so my dad took me to see it. Tovar was a sparkplug for the Twins. Energy was his game. One of my favorite players! Put him in the Twins HOF!
  22. I keep seeing Manoah come up as someone the Twins are interested in. Maybe they can fix him mechanically, but what about mentally? I don't have the kind of info the FO has but on what I do know I wouldn't give up much.
  23. Too little IMO. They would have to add probably Julian and a pitching prospect. Don't see that happening.
  24. I was at that last game waiting to see the outcome of the Tigers? game. Most of the fans stayed around and watched on the scoreboard big screen. The atmosphere was electric. Next to the WS in 65, the best time I had at the ballpark, and for sure the best in the Dome era!
