Failure to Launch: Twins Bats Yet to Achieve Liftoff
Karbo replied to Hunter McCall's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
5 games in is way too early to discuss trends like this. The way too early trend I'm seeing is a lack of patience at the plate. Until the 2nd half of yesterdays game it seemed like all the boys were in hurry to get the game over, not wanting to work the counts. -
Would you change your mind if he was safe? Very close play and the 3rd baseman made a great play.

Brewers 3, Twins 2: Rally Runs Short for Minnesota
Karbo replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I agree that is the way it is, but I'm thinking its the wrong way. Julian needs to see the lefties. Wallner seems lost right now so I can see that move. I was frustrated that Martin didn't attempt a steal. Milwaukee has had a tough time throwing out base stealers so far so why not try? Probably wouldn't have had a big change but why not try? DP instead so hindsight and all that but again, why not try?- 95 replies

Only 4 games in, but the hitting is starting to remind me of the 1st half last year.- 95 replies

At this point I agree it looks a little scary, But, the season is so young yet its just too soon to panic. Lets see what SWR can do. Both Headrick and Dobber were all right so far. Its springtime when hope should be high!

Twins Prospect Retrospective: Austin Martin
Karbo replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If Martin turns out to be a singles type hitter but steals his way to 2nd I'm fine. As long as he plays decent defense let him find his way. I remember Kirby didn't hit for power in the beginning of his career. I hope he develops into an above avg. player or SWR develops well or the Berrios deal turns into nothing more than salary dump. -
My favorite memory of Hatch was when someone(maybe Kingman?) hit a ball through the roof that didn't come down. While everyone was trying to figure out what to do, he ran over to the pitcher from 1st, grabbed the ball and bounced hard of the turf, caught and ran back to 1st as if he was getting the out. Not a lot of fans at that game but those of us that were had a good laugh!

Finally get a chance to see the guy that was the key in the Berrios trade. Now we'll see how they use him and how many AB's he gets.

I agree. Castro should get the bulk of time at 3rd, unless they call up someone like Martin to take a look at.

Three Teams to Bet the Over, Three to Bet the Under
Karbo commented on Hans Birkeland's blog entry in Hansblog
I think Baltimore may end up East champs, and maybe the best record in the AL. They are a TEAM, more than a couple of superstars trying to carry the load, -

I agree that the key this season is injuries. So many with injury histories. How long can they hold their breath hoping for good health?- 3 replies

Time will tell. Neither guy was a big loss at the time. Burdi got some hype but never lived up to it due to injuries. I don't even remember Gil.

Behind Enemy Lines: Previewing the 2024 Detroit Tigers
Karbo replied to Adam Friedman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
IMO the Tigers are the biggest threat to the Twins in the division. If they get hot early (or lucky) the young talent they have could get the confidence to really take off. I THINK OF THE '87 Twins who had an Ace starter but not much after, but hit the snot of the ball. The biggest difference is the pen. That team had a pretty good pen, and I'm not sure how the Tigers pen will develop.- 6 replies

I don't really like to compare youngsters to established players until they have a few years in. Lee will probably be a very good player. I expect him to be one of the top 2nd baseman in the league once he gets some reps in. So that has to lead me too Julien. He's a very good player also. So I would guess he's going to have to learn a new position. Most "experts" think his home will be 1st base or DH. I sure hope he can get some time and reps at 1st because I hate to see a youngster start a career at DH. A future infield of Lewis, Correa, Lee, and Julian looks pretty good to me, at least offensively. All under team control for a few more years.

The Big Question: Rocco Baldelli’s Management
Karbo replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
IMO Rocco has been learning on the job, and has seemed to improve some each year. Of course, he can only work with the pieces the FO gives him. I had a lot of confidence going into the season, but after all the injuries and a dreadful record in ST (worse in the grapefruit league) I'm quite a bit more anxious. I didn't have the confidence in the pen others did before all the early injuries, and am really nervous about it now. Still, I can't wait to start watching meaningful games on Thursday. Go Twins and good luck! -
He certainly has been successful using his approach. Now they need to work with him on his baserunning. Adding in a few steals would help not only him advancing, but also whoever is hitting while he's on base. Just the threat of him taking off would make the pitcher pay more attention and possibly make a mistake. Not to mention probably a few more fastballs.
