  1. The big adjustments they made IMO is hitting to all fields, leveling out the swing plane instead of swinging for the fences, and a better 2 strike approach. Jeffers and Kepler are prime examples.
  2. I wondered if last season was a "career year" for Willi but it looks like he has turned a corner. He plays all over the field, switch hits, and seems quite popular. A good get for the Twins.
  3. It was painful watching Jackson out there. I agree Rocco mis-managed things. Ober should have been allowed to come out for the 6th, and Alcala should only go 1 inning. I just haven't see Jackson look very good at all yet this year but since he throws sliders this team will try to fix him. The trade for Margot was a total waste of a good prospect!
  4. I have DirecTV so I haven't been affected, at least not yet. I am a retired, partially disabled, die hard Twins fan, and I would be lost if I couldn't watch them (and the Wild) most nights. Ownership must step up if they want to build the bran. Players are doing what they can, competing for another title so lets not waste the progress!
  5. The team seems to have figured out the "all or nothing" approach doesn't work for them. Making contact, using the whole field, and honing in on fundamentals is the key for this squad. I expect more HR's when the weather warms. I just hope they don't forget how to play "small ball" when it does.
  6. I've been saying the Twins need to abandon this all or nothing approach for the last couple of years. Hit the ball hard where its pitched. There's a big field out there and only so many fielders. Putting the ball in play gives a chance of something good happening. Sure, swing for the fences early, but with 2 strikes just put the ball in play. Jeffers got the idea last year and look what its done for him.
  7. Agreed that the TV deal was handled poorly. W/O being able to see the books it's hard for me to blame the Pohlads for cutting payroll.
  8. He was a pretty good fielder as I remember, and I think of him being a streaky hitter. I think you should put Castino at or near the top of the list of 3B. Short career but before he got hurt he was awesome!
  9. Over all they have been above avg, but there is room for improvement. The salary dump this past winter can't be blamed on them, but the trade for Margot? They do seem to be pretty good at finding pitchers that can be put into the pen, but I'm still waiting on this so called SP pipeline. They have done a better than avg. job with the draft picking up some good young hitters. Over all a B grade. Rocco has some flaws like pen mgmt. but he seems to handle the players well. Another B.
  10. I've been wondering if AK is hurting again, and I agree the Margot trade, so far, is a flop. Not giving up om Sands at all. Though I don't think he is a late inning guy yet. I think Alcala will probably slide into that role.
  11. Margot is not an acceptable fill in for Buxton. It would have to be Castro or Martin. Margot has looked slow and bad in the OF.
  12. Jeffers has by far been the most reliable hitter in the lineup. As far as "clutch" hitters go again it has to be Jeffers, followed by Kepler and Larnach.
  13. I'm not as high on Topa as some others are. Its not like he has a long history of success yet. With that being said, I would leave him in St.Paul until he shows a little better, or he has to be called up.
  14. He just has to locate a little better. Too many pitches in the "whoop em" zone. I see no need to worry this early on.
  15. Personally, I would take Martin over Margot at this point. That could change if Margot starts hitting, but I sure don't see him in CF anymore. Going back down is probably the right move for Martin at this time. He got a taste, now its up to him to try to continue his growth as a ball player.
  16. IMO either Ryan or Thielbar in the 7th, then mix in Jax and Stewart to end. I didn't mean Jax shouldn't have pitched. But if they don't activate Duran tonight, they could be in trouble. They don't to use Stewart on back to backs often, Thielbar is still building up so he would be doubtful. SWR pitching so they probably will need at least 3 from the pen. Do you feel comfortable with the others closing out a close game in the 9th? I don't, at least not yet.
  17. Rocco's pen management leaves Jax unavailable and Thielbar closing? Hope Duran comes back for Tue. game.
  18. I still believe the best approach is to hit the ball hard. There will be some grounders, some liners, and some fly balls. Hitting a round ball with a rounded piece of wood is probably the hardest thing in sports.
  19. They played the Sox and Angels at the right time. Now they hopefully have the confidence back and carry some of these good vibes forward. 3 more with the sox and then back to decent teams.
