  1. I think he still has a bright future, but man he's been lost for the last 6ish weeks at the plate. Getting everyday virtually pressure free ABs to work on whatever he needs to do seems beneficial. Farmer hasn't been any better, but his history, versatility, a contact and the fact Lee probably isn't ready is the reason he's here. Julien's .202/.311/.236 with a 42% K rate in his last 103 PA is pretty damn ugly, no matter how much you think they younger guys need to be in the lineup. Hopefully a little break can help him turn it around, he's obviously a better hitter than he has been.
  2. I would be curious to see how many managers have given up the DH spot this season. I'm sure it has to have happened at least a few times?
  3. Farmer was worth 1.5+ WAR in each of the last 3 seasons, while playing 3+ positions. Yes, through 101 PA he is struggling, there is no doubt about that. He is certainly not playing up to his salary, but unless you could project he wasn't going to replicate what he has done in the past and fall off the table, what can ya do? Cutting a veteran before May ends because they are struggling is something you just don't see teams do, especially those who have been recently valuable. If they would have non-tendered Farmer, they would have been looking for a 1 year deal player to play utility man or banking on Brooks Lee to make the jump....which they chose Farmer. That being said, Farmer is almost certainly gone after this year.
  4. I've always been a Steer fan, but he should never, ever play 2B. 3B or the OF. His glove profiles at 1B and DH. He is very subpar anywhere else, even if the Reds did have played him at those positions. He's the same age as AK, and the Twins were never keeping Steer over him. CES is only 24, but a complete mess at the plate and also is going to 1B or DH. I agree the Twins lost the trade with Mahle's injuries, but on the contrary, they traded from a position of surplus and got a guy they thought might make a difference.
  5. Just curious who were the trade candidates? How many upside starters were traded this past offseason?
  6. As someone who was busy all day today. I saw the quick 2-0 hole in the 1st and wrote the boys off. I checked back and saw 4-0 with the Twins with 1 hit in the Bottom of the 4th and assumed it was over. Insanely proud of the boys resilience. Jeffers IS one of the best hitting catchers in the league, bar none. Carlos Correa is an insanely good baseball player. The injury he had last year, combined with his salary really jaded a lot of fans, but my god, he is a pleasure to watch. Not to mention he acts like such a leader, the Twins are blessed to have him...regardless of what some fans think about the money stuff. Duran has some things to work on, I don't think he's all the way back from injury, but overshadowed by that, Griffin Jax is a damn good pitcher. For those of you who have been around awhile, you can remember some fans absolutely lighting up the Twins front office by picking an Air Force guy who might not pitch for a bit. Jax went from being a borderline starter to one of the best set up guys in baseball. He is striking out 12/9 this year while hitting 97 on the gun with an ERA of 2.14 and a FIP 2.13. I know the "pipeline" of the current regime doesn't include Jax because he was drafted the summer before they took over, they have turned him into a weapon. I'm rambling. Go Twins!
  7. Ragans is pretty filthy. Not looking forward to watch the flailing at his changeup with 2 strikes tonight. SWR needs to be on his game tonight.
  8. While agreed his BABIP wasn't sustainable, it's not just that. His BB% is down, his K% is up and after his early power surge, his slugging % is down 70+ points. He has 1 XBH in his last 70 AB's. Really breaking it down, he has been awful against everything but the fastball this year. His baseball savant page breaks it down pretty well, and it's not pretty. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/savant-player/edouard-julien-666397?stats=statcast-r-hitting-mlb He did have 3 good AB's today, hopefully he can build from there, he's very talented, but if I'm pitching to him, he is getting junk or offspeed stuff for every single pitch.
  9. Would certainly nice to get on the board first here fellas!
  10. DIdn’t Topa get hurt during spring training?
  11. Some everyday ABs in St. Paul might be needed for AK to work on things if they do get healthy. He's looking pretty lost T the plate after his hot start.
  12. If he wants him to swing thru that slider he probably shouldn't hang it letter high. Good piece of hitting by Raleigh, but he served up a beach ball.
  13. Contract. Honestly, this is one of the main reasons that the Twins were okay sending Luis away. He is making $10.6M this year, and next year is his last year of arbitration. He is going to get another pay raise.....or a long term deal. IMO, the Marlins were always going to send him somewhere.....I would have guessed closer to the deadline if they were struggling or off-season if they were in the race though. With Arraez's BABIP back down to normal levels this year, what do you give an elite contact hitter with an OPS around .400, a rare strikeout victim and average at best defense at 2B? He is such a unique player.
  14. Walking a very poor hitter in Dylan Moore followed up by meaty hanging slider to Raleigh were the game changers. I also think Ober or Sands should have gone one more inning. Expecting 3 innings from Jackson/Okert/Alcala/Funderburk in theory works, but you don't have a truly dominant arm to get you out of a jam if needed. That being said....if the pen is going to get blown up, I'd rather have it all in one night rather than spreading it across the week. Would love to see another gem from Paddack tomorrow to get them back on track.
  15. He threw too many balls today, but to me it was a pretty positive outing for him. Carrying that velocity that deep is huge and his stuff has that pop. I am hopeful he can be a key contributor this year.
  16. Only Correa and Kiriloff have hit better than Byron so far.....why is he being singled out in this thread?
  17. Same amount of money in 2024. Gurriel is owed $41M from 2025-2027.
  18. How have you been there for 3 years and have yet to attend a game? I hope you make it to more than 1 this Spring! My parents use to have a house down there and we would go for a week in March and catch a game almost everyday. It's great fun!
  19. If you have to ask yourself why you are a fan, then maybe quite frankly you shouldn't be?
  20. Yeah I don't really get how Hall = Varland. I know they are only a year apart, but Hallw as also much higher considered than Varland. He did pitch out of the pen in AAA and the majors last year, but he was pretty damn good and he is left handed. His stuff is better than Varland's. I feel if the Twins traded a guy who had been a consistent top 100 prospect for 4 years running this place would implode.
  21. What's a hypothetical extension look like for Burnes? He will 30 and hit free agency at the end of the season.
  22. 34 year old Cron coming off the worst season of his career just doesn't seem worthy of a even a discounted deal. Not to mention his giant 2022 was extremely aided by Coors field. His OPS at home was .955 while .619 on the road. Pass.
  23. With Julien needing regular playing time and Jorge being on the last year of his deal, it was on only a matter of time until he was dealt. EDIT: The Twins did have a $12m option for 2025
