    I am on board the Kiersay bandwagon. No question Kiersay would be an improvement defensively over any OF besides Buxton and maybe Kepler in RF. Time to see what Kiersay can do at MLB level. A reset for Kirilloff at AAA makes sense. Still will need to open a spot on 40 man roster, Of position players, Severino is a DFA candidate, terrible start to season.

    Trade Paddack/Pagan for Rooker/Rogers looking good for Twins at this time. Decision was also based on roster management, only so many spots on 40 man roster. Rooker's wrist fx seemed to really set him back, took 2-3 years to get back to pre-injury level, Twins could not hold roster spot that long.

    I agree with most of what has been said so far. Martin not a lost cause, needs to work on OF play, not surprising given inexperience. And if going to be low power hitter needs to get BA and OBP up. Hopefully Martin has learned what he needs to work on and gets to work on it at AAA.

    I definitely underestimated Santana, especially after the first few weeks of the season. I tend to overreact to slumps or slow starts especially older, newly acquired players. Twins have had a number of experienced players lately that they gave a chance to and it went bad.

    There is definitely a human element to calling the game. What gets me frustrated is when a pitch in obviously in or out of strike zone and called the wrong way. Borderline pitches are just that, sometime may be called a ball and sometimes a strike depending on umps angle, movement of pitch, or how catcher catches pitch. But when a pitch appears to be 2 inches inside the zone and called a ball, or the opposite, hard to defend ump, especially when it appears consistently to be in one teams favor.

    When I read headline, was sure it would elicit "What pipeline" comments. That is definitely debatable, but a definite improvement from previous FO. Back to SWR, pulling for him. He seems to have put in the work and Twins development system has helped him make necessary changes.

    Castro near perfect fit for super utility role Twins like to use, has played everywhere but 1B and C. And, he adds base stealing threat, switch hitter so don't have to sub out when facing same sided pitcher.

    The second best CF in Twins system is Kiersay. Kiersay off to good start at the plate also at AAA this season.He is unproven at MLB level. If 40 man roster situation was not a factor, I would think he would be a good choice. But with 40 man roster, adding Kiersay would mean letting someone else go. Don't think FO is willing to do that this early in season.

    I would guess all 6 are still on Twins by AllStar break. Maybe 1-2 gone by September. All gone but maybe one for next year.

    I think Martin has an bright future. It was great for Martin to have an earlier than expected opportunity at MLB level so early in season. He did some things well, has some work to do on others. Will be good for Martin to go back to AAA and work on his weaknesses so can have even better results when he returns to MLB.

    I have no problem with Martin going down, was good first exposure to MLB. He needs everyday ABs and has a few things to work on. He will be back. Pitching, I agree with above posts on Theilbar, don't have a lot of confidence in him presently, but he is likely safe. Most likely Funderburk and Bowman. Funderburk will be back also.

    No way FO/ownership releases anyone when still owing 90% of 5.25M contract. My prediction is playing time will decrease but will still be on team until August.

    Whatever he was sent off to work on in offseason has not worked, much like the rest of team and most of minor league system. Almost all off to slow starts this year.

    There is little argument for keeping Varland in rotation, even moving him to BP for now. Needs time at AAA to work some things out and regain confidence.

    I don't know if McCusker will be able to hit well enough at MLB level, but he still will be fun to watch at AA this year. Could hit 30+ hrs at Wichita, who knows how many playing half his games at home run friendly CHS in St. Paul if at AAA.

    SWR already optioned back to AAA. SWR definitely is the 6th starter now waiting at AAA. He should get plenty of opportunity at the MLB level this year. Definitely an option if Varland has a few more dissappointing starts.

    I was in favor of a challenge system. Then, I watched a minor league game that used the challenge system and did not like it. Slowed the game down, first 3 innings had too many challenges. May be a learning curve for players and coaches on when to use, umpire was correct most of time. I am in favor of the electronic strike system in some form. MLB needs to eliminate the obvious missed calls. When a ball in 2-3 inches in the strike zone and called a ball or pitch 2-3 inches out of the zone and called a strike, need to clean those up.

    MLB pitchers can throw their breaking pitches for strikes. Larnach will have to develop ability to hit breaking pitches, it might be the only pitches he sees in an AB.

    I am big Lee fan but can't see him getting the call until he is a starter. Twins will not call him up to only play a couple times a week.

    A few years ago I read an article, I believe it was from Baseball America. They had done a 10 year study of minor league baseball. I may not be 100% accurate, but their finding were in a given year each club had 30-35 minor league players in their system (excluding players that had already debuted in MLB) that would eventually play at the MLB level, That number dropped to around 13 players that would eventually have at least the equivalent of a 3 year MLB career. It further dropped to around 3 players in each system would end up allstars. This year there is a 165 player limit in MiLB, down from 180 last year, so 450 less players in MiLB this year compared to last year. However, using study from above, excluding 30 players at AAA, of the 135 at other levels, around 100+ will not even have an at bat or throw a pitch in MLB.

    I agree, hopefully a win-win for both teams. Twins have plenty of depth for Gordon's role and needed a LH pitcher for BP, Gordon a good fit for Miami. Hope Gordon has a good year.

    Great article, enjoy prospect talk. Good luck to these players. Twins definitely have good depth in minors, hopefully they can keep improving to make it to MLB.

    Should mention Kiersay in CF depth. He has speed, can steal bases and play well in CF. Not that he is plan B. But, if only consider CF, may be better option than Gordon. Kiersay is good depth at AAA, especially with Twins injury history.

    Thanks for analysis in both articles Jamie. Twins have some interesting arms coming up, these 4, SWR, Festa, Raya, Ohl, Canterino, and others. Don't know if there is a top of rotation/ace type in group but Twins should have some pitching depth the next few years.

    I have most confidence in Alcala. I like Sands and feel he got something figured out at AAA last year, may surprise. Winder and Balazovic definitely seem to be at crossroads- could improve and contribute or not.
