  1. Great article, enjoy prospect talk. Good luck to these players. Twins definitely have good depth in minors, hopefully they can keep improving to make it to MLB.
  2. Should mention Kiersay in CF depth. He has speed, can steal bases and play well in CF. Not that he is plan B. But, if only consider CF, may be better option than Gordon. Kiersay is good depth at AAA, especially with Twins injury history.
  3. Thanks for analysis in both articles Jamie. Twins have some interesting arms coming up, these 4, SWR, Festa, Raya, Ohl, Canterino, and others. Don't know if there is a top of rotation/ace type in group but Twins should have some pitching depth the next few years.
  4. I have most confidence in Alcala. I like Sands and feel he got something figured out at AAA last year, may surprise. Winder and Balazovic definitely seem to be at crossroads- could improve and contribute or not.
  5. Time to see what Martin can do at MLB level. Doubt if he is on opening day roster, but should get first opportunity when injury, then hopefully plays well enough to stay.
  6. What I don't understand is if rights to broadcast Twins games is so lucrative that deserved a 50M annual fee. Why doesn't MLB just take over broadcasts?
  7. I agree with other posters, Jeffers has to play more to be in top 10 now discussion. As far as automatic strike zone, I think it would be best as an unseen by fans. Meaning, umps get notification by beep in ear or something like that if strike. Would rather have immediate results rather than replay or appeal.
  8. With international signings yesterday, should note only 2 international signings on Ted's Twins top 15 prospects. Emmanual Rodriguez and Junior Severino.
  9. If Varland not in rotation to start year, will be at AAA and remain stretched out to be a starter. A lot of uncertainty after Varland for SP depth. I would say Staumont needs another category- Lock if healthy. If Staumont has option, can see him starting season in AAA. Given 4 locks and Alcala, Funderburk, and can't see SWR starting season in BP either, too young and plenty of potential yet as SP. Canterino needs innings before getting shot at MLB, so another unlikely candidate. Those signed to minor league contracts unless lights out in spring training, will need to prove it at AAA. Henriquez, Alexy, Harris. That leaves 2 BP spots for the other 5 pitchers, Balazovic if pitches well in spring training should get a spot since needs to be on roster to start season or DFA'd/released, looks like a likely candidate. Sands would be a good candidate, started last year on roster. So I have 4 locks, Alcala, Funderburk, Balazovic, and Sands.
  10. If Miranda can bounce back would be big for Twins, another RH bat. I agree with other posts that maybe Twins don't need to sign much else this offseason. FAs that could be major contributors are out of Twins budget tolerance. Twins don't need to sign a veteran, Luplow type, give Castro, Gordon, Martin, Kiersay at CF and Miranda, Sererino, Farmer, Julien chance at 1B. They could stand pat with position players and be fine.
  11. Part of the draw for NFL and NBA drafts are those draftees will be playing at top level the next year. MLB draftees are not seen for 3-4 years with an occasional 2nd year appearance. Fans attentions span are not that long. But overall agree with your post.
  12. Are managers watching innings pitched or pitches thrown? Seems Twins starters rarely go past 110 pitches and that usually occurs in 6th or 7th inning. If pitcher sitting at 100 pitches after 6 innings, most likely will not be pitching in 7th.
  13. Looking for Alcala to take a step up this year. Agree Twins may add cheap reliever and definitely some depth at St. Paul. Seems to be FO philosophy to sign quantity of depth of castoffs at AAA and hope 1 or 2 to be able to contribute at MLB level.
  14. Signing Maeda is definitely not a rebuilding move. Tigers must feel they are able to contend this year.
  15. Kiersay's analytics don't project well to the MLB level. I hope he is not selected in Rule V draft, so Twins have depth at CF position this year. Kiersay maybe project as 4th OF who plays good defense and steals some bases. But can see why Twins did not protect him, they have plenty of projected 4th OF already.
  16. Good luck to Pagan, one of TD member's favorite scapegoats. 2 yr., 16M contract, well beyond what Twins would offer a low to mid leverage reliever.
  17. Agree with OP, Vasquez value is more on the defensive side. By all accounts FO is shopping Vasquez, but doubt if they will just give him away. Like Arraez trade, you have to give up something of value to get something of value. If FO can package Vasquez with others for #2 SP, would be all for it depending on others included. I will not be surprised if Vasquez still a Twin opening day.
  18. Don't try to catch a falling knife, may be a dead cat bounce rather than a bounce back. Maybe I am bias since he was a White Sox, but I would say no. I would rather keep Farmer and Castro. Anderson may be a difficult fit for clubhouse.
  19. You can never have too many pitchers. Twins used 27 pitchers last year, very likely all 5 of these pitchers will pitch for Twins next year at some point if still in Twins organization.
  20. Good luck to Maeda, at least when he is not pitching against Twins. Twins FO might have done 1 year deal additional 2nd year at 12M would have been outside their risk tolerance and I agree.
  21. Exciting list, will be fun to watch development. There are not as many on verge of making MLB debut with so many prospects getting the call the past 2 years.
  22. That sets the floor of the Twins offseason, hopefully FO can improve on that.
  23. I am not a great judge of managers but would say Rocco is better than most. The key thing for Rocco with me is that he has player's respect and able to get them to buy into his plans. There is always room to second guess strategy, even the best strategic moves some times do not work out. There is a long list of managers that are considered great that have been fired at least once if not multiple times in their careers.
