    I think managers (and umpires) rarely win anywhere. When the Blue Jays WON back to back World Series in '92 and '93, there was endless criticism of manager Cito Gaston. Amazing....

    Kaat, Perry, Grant, Pascual - but that was more than 55 years. Ok. So they all played on the '65 World Series championship team, and Kaat's in the Hall. If the Twins win the WS this year, I believe there'd be a good case for comparison.

    After my post, I thought, wait a minute, the Bomba Squad won 101. Sure enough, the Yanks clocked in at 103 in 2019! And none of this even takes the Twins abysmal post season numbers against New York into account. I have a feeling the Twins will win this aft, to put an (!) on the season series, AND a little German payback. Hope I'm right...

    In a sense, the Twins lost the trade by making the trade in the first place. Donaldson was already past his prime, and breaking down when the Twins acquired him. His personality could be tolerated when he was elite (see Blue Jays), but after that, not so much. Luckily, they were able to unload him.

    I'll assume you made that comment out of frustration , which is understandable. Maybe revisit that after the season.

    With the Twins as banged up as they are, the lineup has been scary. ie. anemic This is exciting. I remember Eddie Rosario homering in his first AB. Maybe that's just an "Eddie " thing. I'm just going to watch this unfold, starting today. Bonne chance, M. Julien!

    The domino effect of his not playing centre is huge. The end doesn't justify the means. Baffling.

    Quite remarkable! I just checked. The Twins pitching staff ranks 4th out of all 30 teams in strikeouts (not including today's game). So add on, what was it, another 17. I mean, Sonny Gray's line yesterday reminded me of Randy Johnson. Amazing. Confident that Mahle will keep the ball rolling, and bats whiffing, tomorrow.

    As a tactical move, I think Gallo's acquisition makes sense. Seems as if there is a contingency plan. He's only 29. You never know.

    It's not a question of political correctness; it's simply a misnomer. 29 American teams and Toronto does not constitute the world. That said, the "World Series" is steeped in history, and for me (especially when I was a kid) it evokes a magical time of year. So keep the name, but be aware that World Series champs are actually winners of the MLB season. There's nothing global about it. Nelson Cruz made a good point saying that the WBC is the real World Series. And by the way, hang on to that too. I think it has lots of potential to flourish.

    Pretty amazing! Maybe the Arraez/Lopez trade will turn out to be one that benefits both sides. Too bad about the devastating injuries incurred in the WBC, though...

    Reusse - "I think they traded Urshela because he didn't get hurt enough." The guy's entertaining, and now having heard his voice, I'd say Gleeman's impression of him is spot on.
