  1. Our starters can handle 5 innings. stack the bullpen like the best teams do. Obviously we don't have the money to stack the starting rotation so let's do the next best thing.
  2. Would I have signed Gallo? No .. but we have him so I'm hopping he can get back on track to the tune of .210 BA, 35 HR .340 OBP .. But more importantly I hope his ability to play centerfield allows us to keep Celestino in the minor leagues. Why Celestino, I think he's going to be a career 2.65 hitter with no power. He can cover ground in centerfield but makes too many mental errors. WE have so many outfielders who can hit and hit with power that need to play.
  3. Miranda is going to play average defense and be a perineal 300 hitter with power. He tore up the minor leagues and acquitted himself well in his first season. He can play 1st base if needed and of coerce DG. He's a right handed hitter which is at a premium. Miranda, Lewis, Lee, Krilloff, Laurnich, Wallner, Julian, Martin, We've been anticipating their arrival for the last 4 to 5 years. Let's put a bat and ball in their hands and let them play. And we still have Buxton, Arreaz , Gordon, Gallo and our catcher potion solved. By 2024 this group can be one of the premier lineups in the league, leading in batting average and at the top with home runs.
  4. Do everything except trading Gray and I'm all in. To me it's not a tear down, it's the team I have been dreaming about for years. Time to let the young kids have their day ..
  5. Why would the Twins raise their final offer. Especially after SF had injury concerns. That sure wouldn't want to make you go from 10 to 13 years ..
  6. More evidence we were played by Correa. (or maybe he got his fill of juice Lucie's). Baseball has been broken for decades. Nothing new here. The big issue is what showed up during the physical that caused Correa to take 35 million left. This is why I don't like huge long term contracts. Personally, I believe the Mets are rolling the dice. But who knows, maybe Correa doesn't pass the Met's physical. if so would you want the Twins to lay out what they offered Correa. I moved on from Correa days ago. I'd rather wait for Lewis and Lee ..
  7. Let's just say the Twins were, swinging for the fences, with this signing ?
  8. Yes, Miranda may have to wind up at first when all is said and done. But looking past this year I could see both Lewis and Lee manning our left side ..
  9. Just an observation from reading this thread and others. This is not a player fans wanted by about a 9-1 margin. That says a lot in it's own right. I wonder what the response would have been if Gallo came in to play first base and DH.
  10. Well, the came out of left field .. I didn't see that one coming because well, it shouldn't have come. Need a right handed hitting corner outfield play and get a left hander. Just got rid of Sano's strikeout rate and now we beat it. (guess the good news is you can't hit into a double play as you strike out). I see no justification for this move. But now we have him the first thing I would do is work with Joey to level out his swing and try to hit more line drives. This increases his hard contact and batting average and reduces his strike outs. With his power there is no reason many of those line drives will leave the park anyway. On the plus side he seems to walk a lot and has a good on base percentage. Maybe we should bat him leadoff ?
  11. I commend you on writing a thoughtful article that is probably not popular. I agree with the article in it's entirety. Well done and brave ..
  12. Crying over spilt milk. Yes, Correa played us the minute he approached Minnesota and signed what in essence was a one year contract. Then kept us on a string until he go the contract he wanted. I'm more upset with Correa than the Twins front office except for their gullibility. Time to move on.
  13. Just glad that's over so we can move on. I prefer waiting for Lewis and Lee. Strengthen the pull pen now and extend some young players contracts with the money we saved. Possibly trade for a quality starter. Time to move on. No way I would have given Correa a 13 year deal ..
  14. I prefer Lewis and Lee long term. Much less expensive and that money can be used elsewhere. But, we need a stop gap until Lewis is ready mid season, Maybe that's why they traded for Kyle Farmer ..
  15. Sorry, but there are very few free agents available that interest me. I love our young players and would rather spend a season calling up as many as possible to get THEM seasoned and to find out which ones are keepers. Then come back to next years free agency and see if you can make a few key moves.
  16. No, No and NO .. I'm looking forward to seeing all three in a Twins uniform by 2024
  17. Yep, I'm old school like you. I put the most emphasis on ERA. Base ball is a game about runs, as in who scores the most. Wins are a correlation to how many runs you give up vs how many runs does your team score. A pitcher has no control of how many runs his team scores for him. So all he really has control of is ERA. But then, the better the era the your team will match you up against the other teams best pitchers which has a major influence on how many runs your team scores for you. Every possible metric you can imagine and today there are hundreds, still fall into the one final test. What is your ERA. That is the net result and in my opinion 90% of how I measure a pitcher. ERA is the wheat and everything else is the chaff ..
  18. Max's ability to play centerfield is valuable but the Twins seem to always turn to another player to take Buxton's spot. With the outlawing of the shift, yes, his batting average would go up maybe 20 points. But those will all be singles. And he si overpaid. Max needs to return to being a home run hitter to warrant keeping him ..
  19. The goal is to field a team that puts fear in the hearts of the opposition. The Twins have years invested in Krilloff, Larnach and Wallner. To me it's how high is a players ceiling and I still believe all three have a very high ceiling and can hit a LOT of homeruns. Neither of the three has had a full season to prove themselves so to give up on the now would not be prudent. Yes, they are all left handed but great hitters with power can overcome that. What good is a right handed hitter if they are mediocre. Krilloff is a first baseman with corner outfield/DH flexibility. I see Larnach as a LF/DH. And Wallner as a RF/DH. Both Larnach and Wallner have cannons for arms. All three have 25-30 home run potential. You can't say that about the rest of the outfielders. So, do what you want with the rest but make sure you have someone capable of covering for Buxton in CF. I prefer to swing for the fences this year with the three youngsters and you can do what you want with the rest.
  20. I believe Julien is the sleeper but doubt he will get the at bats with the log jam at 2nd base. If not for Polanco I'd put my money down on Julien winning ROY. I feel his carrier is very promising ... But in 2024 it will be Lee That kid is a stud and one reason I hope we don't commit a gazillion dollars to a veteran short stop this year.
  21. Provided he can stay healthy and get back a little more zip on his fastball I can see Mahle. I remember Mahle pitching against STL about 6 weeks before we got him and was impressed with his overall stuff. When healthy he seems like someone we could lean on to pitch 7 innings every now and then. That said, I think it is very premature to talk about him becoming our ace. Front line starter maybe. But who knows. I'll keep my mind open
  22. It just seemed that Blaza never got off on the right foot after being injured at the beginning of the season. Just never found his stride. But if I remember correctly I believe he started to figure it our over the last 4 games or so. Right now I'd just like to see him healthy in camp. If he can't progress healthy then maybe we give him a shot at the bullpen.
  23. You are correct that Heaney is the type of talent the Twins wind up with after the top tier pitchers are picked over. So what's the answer when top tier talent doesn't want to go to 2nd tier markets? Bite the bullet and drastically over pay in an effort to break the mold? I really can't see any other alternative. But that's not going to happen so in the end the only way we are going to get a Burt Blyleven is to luck out and develop one ..
  24. Nice feel good story but I wasn't impressed with his play or potential ..
