Twins Left-Handed "Depth" is Testing the Limits
saviking replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I understand they had to send Waller down but by next year I want Lewis Krilloff larnach Wallner julien up at the same time with Lee joining them by mid season. Obviously we need to keep Correa, Buxton and two catchers but other than that everyone else is fair game to dump to make room for the young guns.- 76 replies

Blue Jays 3, Twins 0: Time to Do Something Else
saviking replied to Steven Trefz's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I really like how selective our younger players are at the plate. Guys like Wallner, Julien and Krilloff have more discipline at the plate than Buxton and even Correa. Larnach needs a little more patience but I'm betting Lewis and Lee will have patience. Miranda's problem is he has no patience at the plate at all. He needs to get that fixed if he plans on making it.- 77 replies

Willi Castro is Becoming Disturbingly Valuable
saviking replied to Ted Wiedmann's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Good point on age but they are young in terms of experience in the majors and are younker than our older guys. Due to the fact they have options left and we are committed to some new un optionable players like Castro and Solano it hurts the chances of guys like Wallner who's ready. -
Willi Castro is Becoming Disturbingly Valuable
saviking replied to Ted Wiedmann's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Castro is on a hot streak and good for him. Bottom line is there is not enough room for Castro AND Gordon when Gordon returns. Our young guys like Krilloff, Larnach, Wallner, Julien and soon to be Lewis are pushing hard and if Miranda figures out how to be more disciplined at the plate and how to deal with how the league has figured him out he could be back later as well. Then we have Kepler and Polanco coming back sometime as well. Basically, what I'm saying is we are going to soon have a log jam. Knowing the Twins management it will work to the detriment of the young guys who still have plenty of options left but I don't see Krilloff or Lewis going down. But next year, and with Lee being ready, I could see at lot of veterans gone .. -
I'd just say due to budget restraints they they are big on reclamation projects signing them on the cheap and gibing them one year contracts. No teams want to swim in this pool but we don't have Yankee money. but those are low probability moves. Sometimes I wonder if we are better off giving those innings to young up and coming prospects from our system who are way less costly. Where I get nervous is when we give a big long term contract to Donaldson where a mistake is magnified both in dollars and years. Which leads us to Correa ... I'm not going to say good or bad move. Simply if he doesn't return to his normal output and or his ankle goes could possibly be an albatross around our neck. I'm just brining this up from a risk factor perspective. What makes this move more risky is we may have had just as good an answer with either Lewis or Lee with a lot less financial outlay. So to sum it up, the retreads are cheap and we can easily move on if they are wrong but the big dollar commitments are the ones I worry about ...

You say that but if I remember correctly two years ago they were horrible when the basses were loaded as well. At this rate a regression to the mean would be getting a base hit every time the bases were loaded all next year .. LOL I'm really starting to question Rocco's in-game discission making skills. I have no clue what he's doing with how he manages when to pinch hit and who to substitute for and have never liked how he changes the batting order constantly. That, and I think he rides with relievers who are struggling to long. If they don't have command that day change them after 3 batters already. I think this is a make or break year for Rocco. If they fold again down the stretch I think he's a goner.

It's Time for More Ryan Jeffers
saviking replied to Ted Wiedmann's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
That's a really good point about Jeffers starting when Gray is pitching. I also would like to see Jeffers more because he has shown more power throughout his short career. I still think Jeffers can develop into a significantly better hitter over time. -
Maybe In-game Approach is the Next Big Thing
saviking replied to Hans Birkeland's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Something is wrong with our approach to hitting. Here's an example: Twins load the bases in the first inning on Cleveland from two walks and a hit batter. Quantrill can't throw a strike to save his life. So what do the Twins hitters do? Miranda takes a ball and then swings at a ball at his eye balls popping up. Gordon takes a ball and then swings at a curve ball running in on his hands producing a weak ground ball double play. You would think these young guns would be instructed NOT to swing at a pitch until Quantrill proves he can throw a strike. So we lose 2-0 because of a lack of plate discipline .. Miranda is the worst right now. As much as I like him if you're going to send our RBI leader, Laurnach down to triple A then you should definitely send Miranda down to learn some discipline. -
Sustainable??? Bullpen??? Moderate success??? Why does Ober get so much disrespect. He was our best pitcher in pre season if I'm remembering correctly. Yes, he got hurt last year but so did Mahle and Maeda. Maeda should be the one we are discussing going to the pen.

Reviewing the Josh Donaldson Trade
saviking replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Had we never signed Donaldson in the first place we would have had the money to sign Correa anyway. And if we hadn't signed Donaldson we would still have Garver an Rortvet instead of a 19 old reliever. So the only problem was signing Donaldson in the first place- 44 replies

Prospect Retrospective: Edouard Julien

What a pleasant surprise! -
Simply amazing how a physical specimen like Buxton can be so fragile. I can see why they may want to ease him in to center field but not DHing every day is beyond me.

So I attended the Cedar Rapids game in Peoria las night. Was disappointed they didn't have their radar gun running. Connor looked very sharp the first two inning. There weren't a lot of swings and misses but he pretty much was sawing off the handle of the bats. I've never seen so many weekly ground balls. In the third he walked the first batter and then gave up a smoking hot triple. Had another rough inning in the 4th but not many hard hits. For a kid that hasn't had any work for several years I think he did a good enough job in his first game back. Physically he's a big powerful kid who carries a lot of confidence. As for the fielders the team was loaded with potential big leaguers. Rodrigues, Miller, Schobel, Rosario, Urbina and possibly Cavaco. You don't see that many on a single A team at one time very often. I was especially excited to see E. Rodrigues. He's powerfully built but not bulky at all. The kid was a finely honed athlete with a beautiful swing. He has had a tough start at the plate this season and 3 strikeouts last night but how many times do you see a lefty hit a 400 foot shot to the base of the left center wall. Glad they included the video so you all could see it. I also really like Rosario. The kid is powerful.

Twins Minor League Report (4/7): Everyone Gets a Win!
saviking replied to Sherry Cerny's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
So I'm eating at Potbelly's in Peoria yesterday for lunch. 4 big dudes come. I said, you guys must pay for Cedar Rapids. Had the tell me their names. Last one was Connor Prielipp. The kid is really big. Tall and thick. His demeanor was different than the others. Very confident but not conceded. Good mental make up for the big league. It get's better. Connor makes his first major league debuted tonight and I will be sitting in the stands. Pretty cool- 21 replies
