    Those are very valid points. How much do you use a utility player over a starter? That said, we all know his value as a utility player, and I feel he has shown it will be a challenging situation when Gordon returns. I would argue Castro is more valuable than Gordon in that role.

    I'm not proposing we do anything radical this year but next year we need a full on youth movement. Our prospect pipeline has been a long time coming but now it's here ..

    Why not Chris Williams, who has 19 home runs and a 256 batting average in Triple-A? He's primarily a catcher but has a .997 fielding average in 53 attempts at first base. He also gives the Twins an emergency backup cather. All you have to do is cut Gallo.

    If you want to find out how he plays in the bigs, you better get him up here fast and give him some mop-up innings because he's clogging up a spot on the 40-man roster we will need soon. Not that I give him much of a chance ..

    Good analysis. Sounds like Polanco and Solano go and of course Gallo per your analysis. I can't argue with that. Do we have room for both Castro and Gordon? I don't think so. Buxton and Taylor. I don't think so if Lewis moves to Center. I guess you suggest we trade Larnach?

    How many times does a club play an above defensive player and justify settling for average or below offense. Look no farther than Michael Taylor. You could even argue it pertains to Correa this year. Why can't it work the other way as well. The Twins problem this year is they don't hit well enough to score enough runs. There is no way you can take Julien's bat out of the lineup. I as well have noticed his defense has improved as his over all confidence in the bigs has improved. Let's give him a chance to perfect his craft.

    So basically you have a race between Lee mastering AAA pitchers or Krilloff coming off the injured list. I'm against the move for one reason. I'm more concerned about LEE not being rushed to the majors before he's ready than who plays first for the Twins the rest of the year ..

    Never should have given him a 11 mill contract after the horrible season he had the year before. Should have cut bait before this. Gallo's job is possibly safe until Krilloff comes back to take over first base. But if Krilloff, Lewis and Buxton come back I'm really going to be pissed if Gallo isn't let go. But if they don't comeback until September 1st and we can carry a couple of extra players my fear is they won't let Gallo go. Obviously whoever is taking responsibility for having hired Gallo doesn't want to lose face by cutting him. That kind of stubbornness is un called for. Especially when the totality of Twins Nation is screaming for him to be cut .. I think this would be a rare occasion where the President of the Twins (new as he is) should step in and call that shot. It would show there is some form of accountability

    Well said. When Krilloff, Lewis and Buxton come back we have a bigger problem than positional issues. We have a problem of who stays on the team, who gets send down and who get released. And what about when Gordon is healthy. He's out of options. In the end this is a math problem first, then a positional problem. That said, we have a little more time to sort this all out than we're thinking because come September we can stash a couple more players for a month with an expanded roster. After that we either have to deal with the problem for the play offs or have all winter to reassess if we don't make the play offs. Tough decisions are coming. It's just a matter of when

    Good start plus this time next year we will be adding Camargo Williams, Severino Keirsey Martin to your list. But our minors looked depleted in pitching with the possible exception of the deep, deep minors as in this year's and last year's draft picks.

    Just a heads up. Aaron Gleeman wrote a very comprehensive article on Correa's stats this year and what it may portend for the future. I've been hard on Carrea this year but I've got to say he has played far worse than I ever imagined based on many metrics. The positive news is there is good reason for him to bounce back next year at ahe 29. But bounce back is a relative term. It doesn't predict return to past glory.

    You can't fault someone for slipping on the rose colored glasses every now and then 🙃 I think this is a best case scenario with a low probability of playing all the way out, but hey, who knows .. Sometimes it's fun to dream ..

    While it would be disappointing to see a former promising player go, perhaps it finally leads to sustained playing time for the would-be 27-year-old. I love Wallner as I love Krilloff, Julien, and Lewis. But the, finally, leads to sustained playing time. part is my problem. Larnach has never had a sustained stay in the bigs. It's been a lot of up and down although much of it was injury induced. Larnach was a first-round pick and has played well in the minors. The Twins owe it to Larnach and themselves to give him that extended stay to resolve this once and for all. And had they not jumped the gun and stuck their necks out on Gallo this could have happened this year with positive comparisons to Larnach over Gallol Larnach has massive power locked inside his big frame. We saw that last year with his massive shot to deep, deep center field. If I were the Twins, as soon as they get a first baseman back, I would DFA Gallo and let Larnach play out the rest of the year. I mean, there is no downside to this at all. I also love Lee, Severino. Maybe Prato and Keirsey can be great call-up players next year. Keirsey's speed in the outfield could play well in center field if he can hit 250 or more with good power and plus base-stealing. Then there is Williams and Carmargo who have massive power profiles. The Twins could bring up Williams right now to take Gallo's place in the lineup and play first base.

    Good analysis. I agree with Maeda if we can sign him for 11 mill. I think he's still got gas in the tank. Kepler I'm fifty/fifty on. I agree his salary is reasonable. I just don't see how we can keep Salano and have enough room for our young infielders. Especially come mid-season I sincerely think these young guys are good enough, and have the character to thrive without many veterans. They can feed off each other as many have grown up in the farm system together. Correa's best asset is his leadership, so I think he can carry the load along with Buxton. Our I don't think we have ever had this many quality rookies since the very early 1990s. And I think their plate discipline is superior to the current longer-term major leaguers we have now. But yes, it sounds like we both expect the changing or the guard is upon us and it's great for salary cap relief.

    Someone should calculate how many runs the Twins have scored while Gray is on the mound and convert it into a reverse era .. I bet it will be jaw-dropping..

    I agree. 40 game streak is a small sample size. Let's see where he ends up, but if Kepler stays hot, maybe we can get something for him this off-season; along with Polanco I'm ready for a full-on youth movement. You've got a guy like Severino that I'm assuming we will lose unless he stays on the 40-man roster. And then there is Prato and potentially Lee an Martin ready next year. Going with the youngsters will also help to offset the 40 million sunk in Buxton and Correa so we have money to spend.

    Exactly. I've been pointing this out for the last month. Great article but I find it interesting you left off Larnach. He's batting 272 in AAA and got yaked from the majors when he was our RBI leader. The Twins are letting Gallo steal a very important development year in the majors.

    I thought I'd give the Twins brain trust a few kudos to balance our my criticisms. Picking up Castillo and Stewert wwre really great moves even though Stewart got hurt. Sticking with Pagan and Keppler has turned out as well. Never thought I would say that about Pagan but it's true. Until it isn't 😄

    A bigger question is, what does Gallo have on Falvey and Lavine? It's obvious to the entire fanbase Gallo is a bust. It used to pain me every time he came to the plate but now I actually catch myself hoping for him to strike out over and over again just to put pressure onPalvey to cut him loose.. Are they just that stubborn they don't want t to admit their mistake.. The travesty is that they put the development of Larnach at the major league level back a year .. That's criminal
