    Sorry, but there are very few free agents available that interest me. I love our young players and would rather spend a season calling up as many as possible to get THEM seasoned and to find out which ones are keepers. Then come back to next years free agency and see if you can make a few key moves.

    Yep, I'm old school like you. I put the most emphasis on ERA. Base ball is a game about runs, as in who scores the most. Wins are a correlation to how many runs you give up vs how many runs does your team score. A pitcher has no control of how many runs his team scores for him. So all he really has control of is ERA. But then, the better the era the your team will match you up against the other teams best pitchers which has a major influence on how many runs your team scores for you. Every possible metric you can imagine and today there are hundreds, still fall into the one final test. What is your ERA. That is the net result and in my opinion 90% of how I measure a pitcher. ERA is the wheat and everything else is the chaff ..

    Max's ability to play centerfield is valuable but the Twins seem to always turn to another player to take Buxton's spot. With the outlawing of the shift, yes, his batting average would go up maybe 20 points. But those will all be singles. And he si overpaid. Max needs to return to being a home run hitter to warrant keeping him ..

    The goal is to field a team that puts fear in the hearts of the opposition. The Twins have years invested in Krilloff, Larnach and Wallner. To me it's how high is a players ceiling and I still believe all three have a very high ceiling and can hit a LOT of homeruns. Neither of the three has had a full season to prove themselves so to give up on the now would not be prudent. Yes, they are all left handed but great hitters with power can overcome that. What good is a right handed hitter if they are mediocre. Krilloff is a first baseman with corner outfield/DH flexibility. I see Larnach as a LF/DH. And Wallner as a RF/DH. Both Larnach and Wallner have cannons for arms. All three have 25-30 home run potential. You can't say that about the rest of the outfielders. So, do what you want with the rest but make sure you have someone capable of covering for Buxton in CF. I prefer to swing for the fences this year with the three youngsters and you can do what you want with the rest.

    I believe Julien is the sleeper but doubt he will get the at bats with the log jam at 2nd base. If not for Polanco I'd put my money down on Julien winning ROY. I feel his carrier is very promising ... But in 2024 it will be Lee That kid is a stud and one reason I hope we don't commit a gazillion dollars to a veteran short stop this year.

    Provided he can stay healthy and get back a little more zip on his fastball I can see Mahle. I remember Mahle pitching against STL about 6 weeks before we got him and was impressed with his overall stuff. When healthy he seems like someone we could lean on to pitch 7 innings every now and then. That said, I think it is very premature to talk about him becoming our ace. Front line starter maybe. But who knows. I'll keep my mind open

    It just seemed that Blaza never got off on the right foot after being injured at the beginning of the season. Just never found his stride. But if I remember correctly I believe he started to figure it our over the last 4 games or so. Right now I'd just like to see him healthy in camp. If he can't progress healthy then maybe we give him a shot at the bullpen.

    You are correct that Heaney is the type of talent the Twins wind up with after the top tier pitchers are picked over. So what's the answer when top tier talent doesn't want to go to 2nd tier markets? Bite the bullet and drastically over pay in an effort to break the mold? I really can't see any other alternative. But that's not going to happen so in the end the only way we are going to get a Burt Blyleven is to luck out and develop one ..

    They would have to figure they could trade Pagan for someone better than they could keep on the 40 man roster to keep him on. God, I hope they don't keep thinking they can fix him ..

    I owned and operated record shops in the seventies. I remember there were a lot of one hit wonders. I'd say Lopez was a one hit wonder but he stopped singing in the middle of the song ..

    It will be really nice having these guys over in Saint Paul next year as depth incase starters go down ..

    All I ask is either go after top line relievers or turn to guys like Ober or Winder as sixth, seventh inning set up guys, but please, please don't don't circle what's left over of the reliever market at the end of the signing period like Buzzards as the Twins usually do. We do NOT need to sign relievers with average talent.

    I would only go for package 2 but I bet Milwaukie would only go for package 1 or 2, so no deal in my mind.

    I'd move Polanco and Kepler for quality relivers and minor league talent. You're not going to get an ace starter for them so this would be ore productive. I think Julia will be our second baseman of the future or Martin.

    To be honest, we have so much depth in our starting staff it doesn't make sense to get another starting pitcher unless he's a top line guy. I would rather spend the money on making our bullpen the envy of the majors. If Alcala comes back we are half way there.. Go get 3 more studs to go along with them. Can't wait for you to review the relief pitchers available.

    We should handle him the way we did Celestino. Bring him to AAA until someone get's injured and we need him. If he can improve his defense and Polanco has another sub par year (for his standards) then let him compete with Polanco the next year or trade Polanco if he get's called up due to injury's next year and proves himself.

    I've been contemplating this for over a month now. I love the heck out of the guy mainly because he's such a great teammate. But I see Miranda as our long term third baseman. Krilloff needs to man first and I don't know where else Miranda is capable of playing other than third base. His slow start kept his batting average down but Miranda has the ability to be an annual three hundred plus hitter with power. For that all he has to do is play an average third base. But I'm fine with resigning Ursela for one year, no extension. By 2024 Julian and Lee will be ready and Lewis will be back.

    I find Martin similar to Nick Gordon's path to the big leagues He isn't hitting for power, his defense at shortstop will keep him from playing SS on a regular bases in the bigs. He has speed and position flexibility being not only capable of playing multiple infield positions but an asset in the outfield as well. I think he has a ceiling similar to Gordon BUT .. I'm beginning to think Gordon has an even higher ceiling that he has shown so far. That said, if we plan on keeping Gordon around long term I see Martin eventually as trade bait ..

    Any team that continually looses it's starters do to injury's will eventually end up in disappointment and contribute to moral. I don't think it's a moral issue per say, just a natural occurrence to continued disappointment. It's like continually trying to hit a batted ball with only one arm .. It get's old

    I think the jury is out until after next year do to the fact we have team control over them next year. After letting Archer and Bundy walk we have then quality starting pitcher candidates. Luckily many like Ober, Winder, Woods, Varland and even Balazovic have options left so they can be called up and down from AAA to fill in for Gray, Ryan, Maheda,, Mahle and Paddack. Hopefully Alcala comes back strong so he and Duran and take pressure off Lopez. I felt Fulmer was a quality acquisition few talk about. Time will tell but I defiantly feel are pitching staff is in better position going into next year. Lord knows you will need all of those starting pitchers through next year.
