    Come on guys. They are only $400,000 apart. This is not a crisis. They will get it done. But my hope is they get an extension done. Those are the numbers I'm interested in. What is Berrios asking?

    We need to make room for Kirilloff and Larnach in the outfield possibly by next year but then where will Sano eventually land? Too early for DH ... Fun to have options though

    Seems like management has made a conscious decision to leave Krillof, Lewis, Larnach, Rooker, Duran Balazovic Gordon and Jeffers. in the minors to ripen making sure they are MLB ready when they come up next year and fill the holes with veterans. But other than a potential acquisition of Donaldson (which I give only a 20% chance at best). The fact we can't get top tier talent to sign with us leads me to believe we are better off with developing the team from within where the players have no choice and are under team control for years. It also makes me believe that next year, although promising, is not going to be our year to break through which I'm fine with. We still only have tow starting pitchers signed for 2021 and one through 2022. Probably an open position at first base. In 2021 Andriansa, Austudilla, Avilla and Cave are all expendable and Gonzalez' contract will run out. That's 5 open slots that can be filled by Krillof, Larnach, Jeffers, Lewis and either Rookers or Gordon. And 3 open starting pitching spots for Graterol, Balazovic and Duran with possibly Acala for the bullpen. That would be a dramatically different team with the potential to break the glass ceiling in say, 2022. I hope this is the long term plan as I for one am willing to wait for it to play out. Taking down a team like the Yankees is no small task and to think we are ready next year I think is wishful thinking.

    Randy Dobnak, Lewis Thorpe, and Devin Smetzler are just placeholders waiting for Graterol, Jhoan Duran, and Jordan Balazovic to arrive. Then we should use Dobnak, Thorpe and Smelzler as trade bait once they have another year of seasoning in the majors. In fact, I would trade all three right now to Arizona for Ray if they would take the deal and then sign Walker and Wood. Berios, Odorizzi, Ray, Walker and Wood would be a pretty powerful starting group with Penida coming back and replacing Walker or Wood. Penida would also be insurance against either Walker or Wood getting injured or not returning to form.

    This is so obvious I can't believe the Twins aren't thinking it. Or are they.. Everyone says we have 3 starting pitchers spots filled but for the first 40 games we don't. With days off in our schedule I would assume we will need someone to take Pineda's place 6 or 7 starts. Why not have Graterol be a full time starter those first 7 games and then move to the pin. Assuming he pitches 6 innings per start that would be 42 innings. And assuming he could be good for 120 total innings particularly with most coming from shorter stints Graterol would have 78 innings left. Enough for late inning bullpen stints and enough left for the play offs. =SA=

    I've always thought Buxton's swing was too long. With his speed it's more important making contact and getting on base than trying to hit for power. I'd love to see him use a heavier, thicker bat and make a shorter, more compact swing. The heavier bat would help keep him from swinging in front of the plate. The goal should be better contact and more line drives as well a fewer strikeouts.

    Rook has plenty of time to work on his swing as I see him as the perfect replacement for Cruz in 2021 ... One thing a designated hitter has to have is power, and he has that going for him .. In fact, the lack of homeruns have held the Twins back for decades. Just watch how many more runs we score and how much more exciting the games will be this year. I cut my teeth on Killebrew and Allison. Nothing like a big tator ...

    Making a blockbuster trade comes with great risk. With bold trades comes high expectations. The kind that cost GM's their jobs when they don't work. When you go into a sesonn with less than a 100 million payroll the expectations are much lower. A 500 season is acceptable. That said, I'm not exactly blaming the Twins for not making a big splash as even with a big splash they need to be on the right side of the trade. Nobody is going to risk their necks for a bad blockbuster trade. It may be that the right oe hasn't presented itself yet ..

    I can see where signs point to workload but as well as Hildy did up until the wheels came off you have to admit he was moving from one team and one league to another. This means no one had time to figure him out. I would look at what pitch he threw the bulk of the time he got tee's off on. If it was the change up he's got big problems. That means they were sitting on his changeup and letting the fastball go by. That would suggest to me he needs to live more off of his fastball and throw the change up less to they don't sit on it but I'm not sure his fastball is good enough to live on it .. We shall see. It really disappoints me when we have players that kill it all the way through the minors and then can't hack it in the majors. I pray Gonsalves doesn't do the same, however I've noticed that every time they moved him up a level in the minors he initially got hit but figured it out after about five games and then was lights out. I could see a little of that with his major league debut last year. I'm betting he's going to have a great 2019 ..

    I also agree with using a percentage of revenue on players but also agree any unspent money should carry over to the next year. The main reason is talent (provided the money is spent wisely) raises revenue which raises the amount of money you can spend on talent .. =SA=

    Have to admit I have been totally befuddled with how little spotlight Stephen Gonslaves has gotten. He has just turned 24 and his minor league accomplishments are staggering, plus he's a lefty .. 51-20 W/L with 2.54 career ERA and has only given up 408 hits in 575 innings .. Had a rough couple outings in AAA but has brought his ERA back down to 3.04 with a 7-3 W/L .. Stephen may not be a hard thrower like Romero but has more strikeouts than innings pitched in his career. Maybe it's a blessing flying under the radar. My money is on Gonslaves being in competition for our top three spots in 2020 and hope he premiers after the trade deadline ..
