howeda7 Verified Member Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 for OF'er Alex Presley. Per Ken Rosenthal on twitter.
Tibs Verified Member Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 After looking this guy up, I really hope this is a joke or I looked up the wrong guy.
TKGuy Provisional Member Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 What did you expect, Ned Coletti isn't the GM.
old nurse Verified Member Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 Don't think it is a joke. Ryan must not like what he was getting out of his 5th outfielder
Chance Provisional Member Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 It's the right guy. He is 28! He almost has no potential to improve. He is a Mastroanni at best. Unbelievable. I'm not calling for Ryan's job or anything because I'm sure he know more than I do, but I just don't get it. It seems to be a salary dumb, which is fine I guess if the Organization ever flipped the money saved back on the team. This had better be one crazy offseason for the Twins.
Tibs Verified Member Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 Really hoping more is added to this deal
howeda7 Verified Member Posted August 31, 2013 Author Posted August 31, 2013 Another Clete Thomas who can't play CF. Wow.
h2oface Old-Timey Member Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 Trading for a 28 year old outfielder that has never shown any real shine. It has to be a joke, right? They can try to resign him for 2014, still. I like Morneau having a shot at the playoffs and series. Say hi to Frankie!
Einstein Verified Member Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 Wow, TR really wanted to dump Morneau.
Tibs Verified Member Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 Maybe he is giving Justin a chance to be in the playoffs before possibly resigning him next year and the Pirates are paying most of the rest of his salary?
TKGuy Provisional Member Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 Does this mean Joe plays 1st? Pinto and Hermann catching?
luckylager Verified Member Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 Obviously there just wasn't a big demand for Morneau's services. The Twins got some salary relief and a warm body. They can resign Morneau at the end of the season if they want to go that direction. Too bad, but it is what it is. I wish the best to Justin. Class guy.
howeda7 Verified Member Posted August 31, 2013 Author Posted August 31, 2013 Maybe he is giving Justin a chance to be in the playoffs before possibly resigning him next year and the Pirates are paying most of the rest of his salary? When this is all the return you get, it's not worth the PR hit.
Reginald Maudling's Shin Provisional Member Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 What do you expect to receive for a one month rental? The Twins weren't going to resign him, so, they got something for nothing.
PseudoSABR Verified Member Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 Meh. I would have rather just kept him.
Chance Provisional Member Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 The got another guy in the outfield taking up space. I would have rather had a C level prospect.
The Wise One Verified Member Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 It was less of a return than a lot of people thought they would get. They got organizational filler for when Thomas, Ramirez and Mastro go elsewhere. It does confirm that they couldn't get even a c prospect
PseudoSABR Verified Member Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 Jon HeymanVerified account @JonHeymanCBS deal will be Morneau for alex presley plus a player to be named or cash. #twins #pirates
James Verified Member Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 Jon HeymanVerified account @JonHeymanCBS deal will be Morneau for alex presley plus a player to be named or cash. #twins #piratesOK. Something good could come from this.
Chance Provisional Member Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 I feel better about the PTBNL.
Chance Provisional Member Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 The play could be terrible but if he's young and has an ounce of potential than I am alright. I just didn't want to trade for proven (below) mediocrity.
Halsey Hall Verified Member Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 Horsecrap! I'll bet there's an agreement he signs with us in the off season.
D. Hocking Verified Member Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 Hopefully he will get some play-off success out of this. I wonder what he is thinking right now. I wonder what Mauer is thinking right now.
Badsmerf Verified Member Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 Good for Morneau! Good for the Twins (I hope)! Glad they finally pulled the trigger. I will be a huge Pirates fan in October!!!!!
rickyriolo Verified Member Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 Go Justin...glad you are getting another chance to go to the payoffs. Pure salary dump by the Twins..well, The Pohlads do love their money
CharacterGroove Verified Member Posted August 31, 2013 Posted August 31, 2013 This is a great opportunity for Justin. I'm glad something worked out.
