It's too bad that Canterino didn't get care that Prielipp & Raya got. It's normal that pitchers who had TJ surgery to have control problems when they 1st come back. I'm optimistic that Canterino will eventually be impactful. My prayers are with him.

Amen

Wow, this is the news I've been waiting for.
Canterino is coming back!!

I've been asking GPT from time to time throughout the year to look for any recent news about Canterino, and I guess today is finally that day.

I sincerely hope that he stays healthy from here on out. And, hopefully, he can continue wearing our team's uniform next year as well.

Thank you so, so much for this wonderful news.

Whether the innings he throws in what is left of the season are his last or just a start to a new chapter. Wishing him the best. Perseverance.

What care did he not get?

He has received care.  He is just another cautionary tale of being an arm that was abused at Rice University.  Now there is still a slim possibility the surgeries fixed the issue and there is not significant scar tissue or significant decline in velocity ect.  Now I think there was some delay in receiving some procedures as they wanted to try to heal them naturally.  However the Twins have not just ignored his medical needs.  Now I do think our medical team was lacking there for a significant period and struggling to identify injuries - Buxton comes to mind.

Glad to see he's able to throw off the mound. I don't expect anything, but it would be fun to see him have some success as a reward for his hard work.

The legend of Canterino has been pretty crazy around here. He had a great ERA and a super high K rate, but his BB rate soared at AA suggesting the stuff might not be what generated all the K's. It might have just been aggressive hitters in the lower minors.

Or maybe he was dealing with one of his many injuries?  Why do you have to rain on his parade.  It's been four years.

If he is with the Kernels, doesn't their season end this weekend?

Well great. Like many I have been checking the baseball sites around the Twins looking for info on his status. When the calendar turned August and there was no word I had pretty much given up hope on his ever getting on the mound again. We will see if he can make the Twins next year.

I'm sorry. Matt Canterino, next 30 Cy Youngs in a row for sure. Clearly now MLB's Number 1 prospect.

Really, you went that route?

Some posters can deal with the tiniest bit of pushback on their cherished opinion; others can not and choose to go to some extreme length in the opposite direction as some kind of straw man.

I'm wondering if this Cost of Recovery includes the wages paid for missing days. If so, that was already a sunk cost in most other cases. And minimal in Canterino's case.

I'm not at all being critical, I'm with most others, the organization gets kudos for sticking with and standing by Canterino.

The cost of TJ runs in the 70-120 k range  the cost of arthroscopic shoulder surgery was found to be in the 40k range. The cost of the physical rehab was not listed specifically for ball players but runs about $150/hr. When I had a shoulder injury it was about 10 sessions, progressing to do it on your own. The rehab in the minor leagues would be accommodations similar to what they have for road games and meal money. Now that portion is not insignificant, but it is likely of the 1.9 million average per player, 1.7 is salary.

I'd also guess that when we hear "The Twins partner with Mayo clinic" or "The Twins partner with Twins Cities Orthopedic" it means these hospitals probably provide health services to the team at cost in exchange for the free marketing.

All I was saying is that his performance you mentioned may have been related to one of his many injuries.  We just don't know.  Personally, I am so happy for this young man who continues working towards his dream.  Don't understand why you have to be so down on him.  Also really don't understand what the above is supposed to mean.
