It's wild they went into the year with a poorly planned offensive roster and it's now somehow ever worse. Caratini and his salary probably gets through waivers though. Maybe they can still trade him if they eat some salary. That's a thing still right? The post deadline waiver dump trades? Mike Sixel 1

Caratini won't clear waivers because the Yankees would claim him. They are one of the biggest losers not picking up a catcher.

You can find a Jackson type in the offseason, they need to DFA him. They can not carry three catchers especially with all the moves Shelty is making in the late innings lately. You can't have two catchers on the bench. Linus 1
Hawkeye Bean Counter Verified Member Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Overall I think its an ok team, and there is upside if they bring up the rookies which I think would be ill advised. I really think we should have done a full rebuild and traded Jeffers and Ryan. We will get value from Jeffers most likely so all in all I am ok with it.
strumdatjag Verified Member Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago I’m presuming the offers for Jeffers were not good enough. I’m worried that the front office was worried about criticism, however. I would have liked to have seen the Twins win a bidding war for Jeffers. But alas …

You can still put players on waivers, if we want to let another team claim him (and his salary). USAFChief 1

They have to get to September 1st with a limited bench though. Non-zero chance they end up trying to pass him through waivers at some point and lose him for nothing.

I think he has solidly moved himself into a #2 catcher with upside. 2 years in a row with 1 WAR is a really good, and the bat is really starting to look solid. Dealing with 3 catchers for the rest of the year is fine. strumdatjag 1

Edit: Nevermind! Dan Hayes at the Athletic. No specific amount yet, just a portion of next year’s salary.

I do like Jackson but Zoll really needed to move one of the catchers and didn't do it. strumdatjag 1

I'm not so sure about that, I know he's gained a following, but I don't think he's so much better than what floats around on the waiver wire that his salary wouldn't be a consideration. Either way, they can have him for all I care. He's average at best and this team has zero business carrying three catchers. HarmonK03 and Mike Sixel 2

Road trip Verified Member Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago RE: Jackson... wonder if they could stash him on the 10-day IL with a nagging injury? Every catcher has something bugging them by this time of year. Surely his legs feel bilaterally weak or something? 😆 Then just leave him there until needed, if that day comes. Teams play these IL games with pitchers all the time, why not a catcher? HarmonK03 1

I cannot believe he's not a Yankee right now.
