Don't take this as a callout.  I'm using your post to ask the question.  If this is what they are doing, why are prospects like Quick and Dasan Hill so highly touted?  I understand they may have the tools to be a ML pitcher, but if they don't get a chance to truly stretch out, then what is the point?

I get it, I am trying to figure it out.  I was in Cedar Rapids and saw Quick pitch, his command was not good, but the strike zone seemed to be tight.  But he threw three innings and they pulled in a close low scoring game.  That is where I saw the stat about the innings pitched.  And shortyly after that game they promoted Quick.  So I am not sure what their goal is anymore.

Yes with every pitcher from what I can see looking at the box scores.  Very seldom does anyone throw into the 5th inning and at 60-70 pitches they are pulled.  They are doing this at every level.  In Cedar Rapids their starters are averaging 3.1 innings per start which is the lowest in the Midwest league. I could understand for some younger guys, but I don't see them developing any starters to be ready to pitch up here as a starter.

But weren't Zebby and Abel and Prielipp getting further run in games when they were down there?

I think part of the problem is that pretty much everyone they'd been planning on really developing as a starter is either hurt or called up.

Having said that, I wouldn't hate it if they were maybe more aggressive with letting true starting prospects go further into games as they get to the upper levels of the minors

Should have used him before Paredes blew up and Rogers followed.

Lose 3-2 or 5-2

letting him go for a 3rd inning when he didn't have his best stuff today was definitely pushing it, Rojas had a much shorter leash than he did.

True. But that didn't have to happen either if Paredes wasnt allowed to load the bases.

They were throwing about 70 to 80 pitches last year IIRC.  This is why they haven't been able to go very long when getting up here.  I know there are injuries, but you have to have someone ready to step in if needed.   Paredes is a great example, they started to stretch him out and then they pulled back.

Sucks we're not winning, looking grim when we lose 4 in a row. I'm in Denver for training. Watching the Rockies down 2-1 right now. Saw W. Castro hot a foul out.

Rockies are playing ball, up 4-2 now.

Play-off pipe dream over. No reason to start burning option years or keep Veterans that can help other teams. Trade off what they can and stock up on prospects...

If you sell the veterans, you WILL be burning option years. Still the right thing to do.

Problem is management doesn't know what a good prospect is. How many are contributing from our big sell of last year? I know Abel is hurt and some aren't ready, but i am skeptical that they know how to judge talent. Other team GM's probably salivate when they know they can fleece us with "prospects".

Like Ryan and Duran? Or Bradley?

Only a few of the guys they traded were actually "major league level" players at the time of the trade. Expecting every player received in a trade to immediately be contributing at the big league level kind of misses the goal of what a sell is actually supposed to do. The fact that even 4 of those players have already in some level played a role in the big league club is proof that these were good evaluations of talent with the only real debate being if it was worth dropping the guy they did for them.

You are saying Roden and Outman were good evaluations.  Is this a Falvey burner account.

Ober and Taj up next. Hopefully, we get some good starts out of those guys because God knows we need a few good ones.

Maybe we can score a run.
