  1. It could be much worse than being 'stuck' with the 3rd pick in a draft most all experts see as having a very clear top 3. What is it about Lackey that you dislike so much versus Cholowsky, Emerson, Lombard and Flora?
  2. I know the mlb draft gets weird but by all consensus it's a top 3 draft. Both SS's and Lackey. What makes you think he should take under slot, and would fall out of the top 10?
  3. It just all went sideways. Like it seemingly always does. Abel hurt, Taj out for a few, SWR was horrible, Zebby sucks, Royce and Walner screwed it big time, Jeffers out, Larnach now has less power than most of us. Both Jenkins and Emma injured constantly. If half those guys work out, it may have been fun. But none, which is why we see Gray, Kriedler, Jackson, etc. does every team face these setbacks, seeming every year? I don't get it.... nor do I even know who to be frustrated with
  4. This entire organization is a disaster. Hate to be extreme but Jesus, put Buck and Ryan out of their misery and set them free. From ownership to the TV situation to underperformers to key MLB injuries, to having to call up washed out vets to having top prospects continually injured... it as low a point since contraction was threatened. There is no pitching at AAA and AA is an embarrassment (check out the team BA then name me 1 pitcher). I've tried to be positive, but do not see any answers. I feel bad for the writers trying to keep this site relevant.
  5. You nailed it. And Kriedler after him. Either way, Buck doesn't score after Bell and Gray grounded out.
  6. I love prospects too (Fedko isn't one) but this will not happen. I'd bet Lewis is back before any you mentioned. fwiw - this is a game recap, and the guys you mentioned had 7 of 9 RBI
  7. I thought the same. Good game, we lost. It happens. 'The whole world is shouting " changeup"' .....meaning the whole world minus the hitter? If that statement were true, seems fastball was the right call. The problem is the 89 MPH, not Caratini.
  8. What is one pitch he has that is even average, let alone above average? This is a huge nothingburger
  9. Agree it was a poor trade in hindsight. But today is today.
  10. His stuff isn't close to the guys you mentioned. He has no discernible dominant pitch - which for a reliever matters. I find no issue here.
  11. And per the articles point... only one of the names you mentioned play infield, and 3 of 5 don't have enough AB's to qualify. .240? I think I miss the live ball era and steroids
  12. #1 this article is great. Kinda frustrating that we have to speculate who is gonna play where. It's one thing if these were low minors guys but by the time they hit the levels they're at, ud think the path would be clear. #2, so much hinges on KC. Defense translates and I believe Houston is the future at SS, even if he doesn't hit much. Brooks? Im torn. LK, I have to do a 180 and give props to @ashbury, as I'm starting to believe (albeit one week after my defense of Luke) he just may not have a place. i looked at yesterdays box, and while I know offense is down... I was shocked at how poor the twins averages are. Bad hitting with little power + bad D isn't a great equation. appreciate the article
  13. I thought this was a great and informative article. This take is what you got from it? That we need a closer? Maybe we can ship out Joe and get Nelson Cruz back also since we need a DH.
  14. Fair point. I would guess though, but could be wrong,, that a 1993 with 150k miles would have been more expensive. Glad it worked out!!!
  15. Surely don't have to but he's at a peak and every days diminished value. Performance, injury, affordability. Would you pay the same for a car 1 year older with 50k miles versus 1 year newer with 35k? No. im no expert, but its kinda negotiation 101
  16. I am not sure if you intended this to be thought provoking, but it really is, assuming you meant it this way. There has been a bit of 'shut up and play' commentary here. But it's such a fine line between confidence, cockiness, insecurity and inner drive - compounded by the fact that in baseball, as opposed to other sports, we have this odd expectation that players 'respect the game'., be quiet and play. in Football, the GOAT #12, or Adrian Peterson, or Rany Moss (last 2 were freaks) had an inner drive that made them want to destroy you. Basketball... MJ, Kobe, Bird, closer to home Ant would skin you alive to win a game. But for whatever reason Baseball is different, maybe because it's a game of failure.... but the greats need to channel it differently and Royce hasn't done that well. Just an observation from afar but he seems to want to please everyone else to the detriment of developing himself. So some want him to just 'shut up and hit' but I'd like to see him keep that edge... but use it internally to drive himself to what he can be - not to just say what he thinks others want to hear. Maybe that ends up being nothing more, and he can't lay off those maddening pitches you mentioned. Or maybe just maybe he finds the confidence he once had, says absolutely zero to the media, uses it as a 'I'm going to prove myself to myself' moment and begins to rake.. maybe that is the 'it' we often talk about between the talented AAAA players (Dave McCarty, JD Durbin, Adam Johnson, Todd Walker) and solid/spectacular major leaguers who would eat you alive (Tori Hunter, Joe Nathan, Harmon, even Joe Ryan) i believe where he is now is exactly where he should be, but I'm rooting for him. To find his mojo, authentically, and turn it around. really well said by you
  17. Snarkyness was not intended and if taken that way, apologies. I think a few folks were taken aback by the article and insinuation LK was benched and possibly on a Lewis/Wallner path - when we were at least told it was due to injury. He may well flame out, but it seems too early. And I don't think a Clemens, Arcia, Keidler and Gray infield inspires belief in the future - even if we win some this year. If Luke is a 3rd Baseman, OF'r, 1st baseman I'd be more concerned. But I'd sooner take lumps with him, then a retread or Tanner Schoebel. If he's still struggling a year from now it's fair game, some just believe it's too early. (Again, the article, not your comments) And right or wrong, I think many simply have flashbacks of Sanó, Gallo and MW that we find guys like Martin and LK somewhat refreshing to watch. I know I do. But your point is not dismissed at all.... and you may be spot on. entertaining discussion, thanks!
  18. I agree with this fully. Same with the lineup. Many players are creatures of habit. This is probably the only excuse I'll ever make for MW, and I'm sure the analytic fanatics will disagree, but it was complete malpractice to ever start last season with Wallner as the lead off hitter. (My opinion)
  19. Zero idea what point you are trying to make. 1-1 picks since 1990 have been pretty solid. In fairness to Royce, he was a bargain signing, as Hunter Greene was pretty unanimously seen as the best player. But..... if we didn't save on Royce we wouldn't have been able to sign Blayne Enlow, so there's that
  20. No offense taken! I just don't love the extremes either, which is my only point. Clearly he/she doesn't see those 3 Hall of famers as a good comp to any second baseman, so it seemed rather odd. I hate to pile on Royce and MW but per the article I just think a 23yr old 2b in a 7-8 week slump is vastly different than upper 20's guys (who play positions that demand production) that struggled for a year plus. - that was what was in the article, not the comments. or maybe I'm just hoping beyond hope they keep the season semi-enjoyable, so am overly defensive :)
  21. You may want to double check the comments and who introduced Ohtani, Judge and Soto and then rethink who you believe is the all or nothing crowd.... 'One of the very best ways to score a run is to drive yourself in, and 100-run scorers like Ohtani and Judge and Soto do exactly that dozens of times each season.' Keaschall is 23. He deserves a bit more patience than 8 weeks
  22. We agree. Yes, I would take Ohtani, Judge and Soto over Keaschall too! But Until we fish in those waters I'm ok giving a 23 yr old 2nd round pick with a 162 game average of .270, around 75 rbi's and 75 runs scored, and 40 stolen bases - who is apparently under performing with those numbers - a chance
  23. Ralph Kiner also made the playoffs 2X with no World Series appearances, Joey Gallo is working on being a relief pitcher and Wallner rides the Metro Green line, not a Cadillac.... so there that too
  24. I'm ready to admit I know nothing. Was about to write off Lee, now 2 games on fire. Maybe Confucius was right after all
