It is not much of a consolation but the Twins are playing as hard as they can. When the team is playing just match up the opponents lineup position by position to the Twins and ask yourself who you would pick.  It isn't pretty.

Things can change but it may be a while.

Agreed and maybe that means its time to put in someone new. Start with the SS position.

Ryan with 77 pitches to get through 4 innings. Really rough.

The bullpen says “hold my beer” and uses 95 pitches to get through the next 4.

This is a trend with both the Twins and the Saints. There’s no possible way the org has even close to enough arms at these levels and at this rate to get through the season. Lots of waiver wire pick ups/drops and promotions on the horizon, along with college and independent league free agents to replenish the lower levels. Ugly.

As part of my lent sacrifice, I watched most of the game last night. Our infield defense was really bad. It did not help Ryan at all.

Giving up happiness for Lent. Commendable.

What’s the cliff notes version of how it got this bad? Unwillingness to spend when we were competitive + years of poor drafting and unacceptable player development throughout our once proud minor league system would be my guess. I assume accruing mountains of debt helped too.

Lack of understanding of the leaguewide value of defense and speed. Obsession with "value" and "being competitive" rather than trying to build a contending team. Poor use of limited resources when spending on the roster.

mean, he tried arguing an ABS call, which was just silly.

I think he was arguing that Baltimore didn't execute the challenge in time....but can that even be challenged?

Matt Wallner is the only guy who can look at a pitch that's five inches inside and say, 'I wouldn't have missed it if it was where I thought it was."

Even if it can't, it could serve to put the umpiring crew on notice, for future instances.  This instance, though, appears to be where Shelton saw only the pitcher's late tap to the cap but not the initial one; if I've got that sequence right then no particular good is coming out of that one.

I watched the first few innings with a Yankee fan friend of mine and the middle 3 or so with my brother who only very passively follows the twins. First time seeing the twins for both of them this year.

They both said “wow, the twins are really bad huh?”

Yeah, they are. Funny, the royals had no problems with the bad weather. The game should have been stopped due to conditions, but also for sheer ugliness. Those first 6 innings were probably a top 20 all time worst twins game I’ve ever watched. And that was with our ace on the mound. Can it possibly get worse than this?

Can it get worse than this?

Simple answer:  YES

Even with W today---this team on pace for 54 wins......which will necessitate Ryan, Jeffers and possibly Buxton being traded before the trade deadline.
