Article: All-Star Roster Shuffle

Like the moves - Arcia has been worse than ass lately, and he doesn't even beat out ground balls.

Parmalee blew a great opportunity.

Escobar is irrelevant with the "emergence" of Florimon and Dozier.

No problem with the demotions, but Colabello better damn well be part of the recalls.

Colabello can be a pretty awesome DH if he can get even close to those AAA hitting numbers. Not sure he is a good option anywhere besides 1st base, though, and I think we need that spot for Morny/Parm/Sano/Mauer.

I for one think he will hit for some power and average at the MLB level and either fit into our future DH/1B plans or net a fair prospect at the deadline/offseason. I don't think there is a precedent for a player who is that overwhelmingly dominant in AAA (.354, 40+ HR pace) not producing at at least a fair clip (.300, 25 HR, 75 RBI) in the majors, but I could be wrong.

Congrats to you Chris, and GL.

I have a feeling a trade is imminent which includes Morneau and/or Doumit freeing DH and 1B time. 10 game warning given by Ryan has expired. Let the trading games begin.

There needs to be a roster move for Bernier, is that right?

Is the team planning on trading someone soon?

No there are only 39 on 40 man right now. Spot opened when they outrighted pj Walters

He can't possibly be worse than Doumit in RF, and Gardy has shown himself to be comfortable throwing Dooms out there.

I don't think you'd have to look far for a precedent. How about the guy he's replacing? In 64 games in AAA last year, Parmelee hit BETTER than Colabello is now, with a ridiculous 1.104 OPS.

I think it goes to show how big the jump to the majors is.

Plouffe similarly dominated AAA in 2011 but was rather mediocre in MLB until his homer binge last summer. So not only is that transition far from a sure thing, even the mild successes can take time.

Plouffe's saving grace was positional flexibility, and a little bit age -- Parmelee's is mostly age. Colabello's only saving grace might be how poorly the big club is playing right now.

This move was needed. Arcia will be back. Parmelee not so sure. Maybe he can be added in a trade to bring back a better prospect. Hope this means Pinto is being promoted, also possibly Matt Koch. Both deserve it.

When Herrmann was promoted earlier, Dan Rohlfing went to Rochester. Rohlfing, like Herrmann, is a guy who can play other positions. It is probably time for Pinto to move to AAA. He has been one of the top five hitters in the Eastern League by almost any measure.

I am not understanding the team's handling with Parms. He is struggling right now, but he hasn't had consistent playing time most of the year.

Well, why would the Twins give a guy who is not producing more playing time? If he is not hitting, he is not bringing anything to the yard, as he is not a great defensive player either. I understand the benefit of playing consistent time, but he hasn't earned that yet.

If the Twins don't want him why would he bring back talent in a trade? At best you might get a similar player from another organization that the Twins think just needs a change of scenery.

With the current roster changes, the Twins only have 2 true OF on the roster (Hicks,Thomas). The last OF spot will be manned by the likes of Doumit, Herrmann and possibly Colobello.

Speaking of the All-Star game. Does anyone else find if odd than Melancon could only find a spot on the roster as a replacement? Here's a reliever that has 44 IP, 46Ks, a WHIP under .800 and an ERA of 0.81. I know the competition is fierce, but come on man!

I'm struggling to come up with any kind of reasonable logic on Bernier's promotion. Anyone?

Gardy said he earned it?

Gardy was watching a replay of the Vikings 1989 playoff loss and thought it would be great to have someone around the dugout that he could call "Burnsie?"

Speaking of the Vikings (nice transition, huh?), I heard an absolutely awful joke the other day:

Why is purple the Vikings color?

What's the last color you turn before you choke?
