Eris Verified Member Posted October 2, 2025 Posted October 2, 2025 Anyone else tired of listening to the same stupid commercials on MLB At Bat. They really need to hire a marketer who realizes that presenting a commercial 10-20 times a game is a major turnoff. (I am listening to the games as I dispatched cable TV more than 30 years ago). If I was watching I would mute the commercials, which was a response to the excessive number of sports betting commercials during the regular season Doctor Gast and Mike Sixel 2
Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2025 Posted October 2, 2025 Two hits for Ben Rortvedt? Wow, never thought I'd see him in the starting lineup for a world series contender with a ludicrously high payroll. Hosken Bombo Disco and Mike Sixel 2

Ok rant over. 🙃
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted October 2, 2025 Posted October 2, 2025 Hey! We got three extra games from this round tomorrow! Better than last year and having only one. Mike Sixel and The Great Hambino 2
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2025 Posted October 2, 2025 Dodgers have so much star power and now they’re getting hot at the right time. Mookie Betts found his stroke again. .899 OPS in September and keeping it going this playoff series Hosken Bombo Disco 1

Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted October 2, 2025 Posted October 2, 2025 Detroit is up 1-0 in the 3rd, but just had a chance for a big inning against Cleveland, a team that struggles to score runs. Feels like a “let ‘em off the hook” moment.
The Great Hambino Verified Member Posted October 2, 2025 Posted October 2, 2025 You know what's a good sac bunt? The kind you beat out for a hit. Well done, Parker Meadows

The Great Hambino Verified Member Posted October 3, 2025 Posted October 3, 2025 Now that the divisional round is set, once again we see the top-seeded Blue Jays dealt a more difficult opponent than the 2 seed. Should there be re-seeding after the Wild Card round? I can't think of a good reason why not. All the teams are on the same schedule and there's at least one built-in off day to handle logistics. There doesn't seem to be a problem staging a Wild Card round with one built-in off day and even more potential matchup permutations leading up to it. Personally, I think the top seed should get to choose their opponent. Could be done right after the conclusion of the final series. That could be pretty juicy. But even simple re-seeding just makes too much sense to me Vanimal46 1

Also, the quality of the 3 seed can swing so wildly - sometimes they're essentially equal to the 2 seed, sometimes they're significantly worse than the 5 seed - because the worst division winner sometimes stinks. But I'd be perfectly fine with simple re-seeding. Or determining second-round matchups by record. Anything other than the status quo of the top seed getting an opponent with a record 7 games better than the 2 seed's opponent. Mike Sixel 1

Strikeouts are ok Unfortunately the statistics are true. Over the course of a season the team that scores the most runs wins the most games. The stat most closely related to runs scored is ISO, and ISO is not correlated with strikeouts (i.e., strikeouts really don’t matter). The challenge comes when applying statistics that are true on a large sample size to a much smaller sample size. For the first round on the playoffs. Every team that advanced scored the most runs—except the Guardians. The Guardians lost the series to the Tigers primarily because of very poor defense especially in the first game.
