strumdatjag Verified Member Posted January 4, 2024 Posted January 4, 2024 It’s going to come to baseball. Let the Twins know - No calling Minnesota or Minneapolis by the attrocious out-of-State nickname “Minny” (or Minnie). . Currently, it’s used mostly by hockey players, coaches and announcers (who are not from Minnesota). I just got off of a flight where the pilot referred to MSP Airport as “Minny”. Target Field already sells soft drinks using the WRONG moniker “SODA” instead of using the correct slang term -“POP”! Don’t let baseball types say Minny. Minny (Minnie) in baseball is Minoso and that’s it. end of rant!!!! Nine of twelve, Richie the Rally Goat, ashbury and 4 others 7

Nine of twelve Verified Member Posted January 4, 2024 Posted January 4, 2024 It is acceptable to use Minnie when referring to the Minneapolis-based character in the team's logo. (His counterpart is Paul.) Jerr and ashbury 2
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted January 4, 2024 Posted January 4, 2024 But adding Apolis is too many letters to fit into one's mouth! Seriously though, calling it Minnie makes you sound like a child. However, I have to admit that I've been calling 'pop' soda for awhile now and it's rubbed off on my kids. I guess I've been traveling too much because I was getting annoyed with the confused looks, and even more annoyed by the 'ugh, another tourist from the sticks' looks. Sorry for my treasonous actions. ashbury 1

And, a bit north, if you want people from the extended San Francisco Bay Area to think you are a complete goober, call their big city Frisco, whydontcha, just like my dear mother-in-law from Chicago. nicksaviking, SwainZag and Brock Beauchamp 2 1

I'll take your word for it that the natives don't like it, but up north the only 'Minni' burgers and 'Minni' pizza is found in the frozen food aisle and it has nothing to do with the state. Most restaurants in LA seem to love to slap the word 'Cali' all over their menus. Maybe it's all the transplants.

Wellimam Verified Member Posted June 24, 2024 Posted June 24, 2024 Totally agree with you on this one! As a Minnesotan, hearing "Minny" instead of Minneapolis or Minnesota is so irritating, especially from people who aren’t local. And don't get me started on "soda" instead of "pop." It's like they’re trying to erase our local culture. We gotta keep the baseball folks in check—Minny should only refer to Minoso, nothing else!
