I read the opening paragraphs and almost lost it:

Kirilloff ... shut down for the season.

WTF?! And then I re-read it and realized that the article was referring to 2022. Whew! Big sigh of relief! We need that guy in the lineup!

Refilling the chuck wagon at the deadline is still no guarantee the extra beans will make a difference. I remember not too long ago a certain pitcher or two named Mahle and Lopez that produced more flatulance than fiber. If the FO does add, lets hope it is someone without injury or more than a 1/2 year wonder.

There are no guarantees on the Oregon trail.

I'd grab a couple more oxen, another wagon with extra guns, ammo, rice, bacon, crackers, dried fruit, McDonalds Happy Meals, whiskey... lots of whiskey. chamber pots, dutch ovens, cell phones, warm clothing, and medicine for the road ahead.

There's a limit to how much we can afford, and how much we can carry.

I'm afraid the Dutch ovens are going to have to pull double duty as chamber pots.

Here is my AL Central poker analogy for 2023:

  • Detroit: fold.
  • Kansas City: fold.
  • Chicago: They raised, we called their raise, they folded. yeah, they are that guy*.
  • Cleveland: still in the game, but has all the body language of a team holding poor cards and ready to fold.
  • Twins: Last team standing, hanging around to collect a small pot.

I think if the Twins keep swinging the bats, that they will stay hot, or warm enough, to start putting some distance on Cleveland. The goal at this point is to build a cushion so that those Cleveland series later in the season will not be so pivotal like they were last year.

*PS, I suck at poker 🙂

Agreed

To make room...  that Gallo wagon may not be necessary since it is only carrying a single giant wind turbine blade that probably doesn't have practical usage.

Well, we could also give some credit to the front office for building depth and then refusing to give up on any of it even with half the fan base screaming for the under-performing veterans to be DFAd.

That's probably a bridge too far though.

Gallo will be gone in 6 days……..time for being real & “not the nice guys”……..no more time to hope he’s going to turn it around!

Wallner - Castro/Taylor - Kepler rest of season in OF.

Lewis/Farmer/Castro - CC -    Polanco/Julien/Farmer - Kirilloff/Solano in IF.

Vazquez/Jeffers

Buxton

Isn’t this our best 13 - obviously? If we don’t add anyone at deadline, these 13 have to be the play-off roster!

Who we move down between now and September 1 so we can have a full compliment (Gallo) in September with the roster expansion, I can’t debate. Can’t be Taylor/Farmer/Solano due to service time. Can’t demote Castro! Essentially it has to be Wallner if they don’t DFA or trade Gallo.

Buxton to IL for most of August?

Can anyone build an argument for keeping Gallo over anyone else?

Wallner - Taylor/Castro - Kepler for the rest of the year in the OF.

Larnach is gone Friday when Buxton comes back.

Lewis/Castro/Farmer - CC - Julien/Polanco/ Julien - Kirilloff/Solano

Vazquez/Jeffers

Buxton

My slant on our play-off roster above.

Not sure who goes up & down between now & September 1 (roster expansion)……assuming Wallner sent down or Buxton to IL. Depends on how soon Lewis & Polanco are ready.

If, as you say, Lane Thomas is worth a haul by himself, this group won't be enough.  Are you willing to buy add Lee and Lewis?  I'm not.

He’s not Willie Mays……don’t think we need to offer 3 OF & 3 pitchers!

Winder - SWR - Moran & Larnach……….,maybe a young SS prospect (substitute the SS for another guy)

This gives them a controlled OF with an upside to replace the guy they are trading. A prospect arm & 2 MLB ready guys to strengthen your Pen. 3 - 26 man rostered players for 1, plus a prospect starter.

I’d rather have Grichuk from Colorado. Offer them the same package and see what kind of feedback you get from each organization?

RANDOM:

I looked at our 26 Man Roster this evening to see what they did with Jorge Lopez spot………he’s no longer there……..only 12 pitchers on the roster. No surprise, no big deal with a day off tomorrow.

The odd thing is Larnach isn’t on the roster either - doesn’t look like he’s been traded - why not listed……..thought it may have something to do with the paternity leave deal with Buxton?

We only have 12 guys on the everyday position player list. No Buxton - No Larnach???

Guarantees are one thing, acquiring injured players and 1/2 year wonders are another. Point being......... better decisions need to be made by this FO.

Actually... they go hand in hand.

Since there are no guarantees... the acquisition of injured players or 1/2 year wonders are possible.

If you could guarantee it. You wouldn't get injured players or 1/2 years wonders in return.

Your choices are:

A, Get back on that horse and continue on with no guarantees.

B. Because there are no guarantees, You stop and refuse to go forward, unloading your wagon in Nebraska to settle down while complaining constantly because nobody wants to live in Nebraska.

As you were saying, since today is an off day nothing needs to be made official until tomorrow. I assume they'll add Floro. Buxton will be back from paternity leave. Larnach was sent back to AAA after yesterday's game in order to be able to play for the Saints tonight.
